The Ivy St. Helen’s Square
Excellent service and food well looked after and even acknowledged my daughters birthday too
Birthday celebration, absolutely lovely! I'll definitely be returning and will recommend it to others.
Could not fault a thing, best place I've ever eaten at. Food was delicious and staff were very polite and friendly without being over bearing. The atmosphere at decor was lovely and factor all this in the cost was very reasonable for the high quality experience you recieved. Would definitely return
Food lovely, service good until the end of our meal where it became slower. Ambience very different this time, missed the little touches.
Service excellent. Love the ambience and atmosphere BUT four guests squeezed round a table in the bar area. By main entrance so a bit draughty and in main thoroughfare for staff. Felt that the menu was very limited and seemed more so than at visits to Leeds and Edinburgh branches previously. Sunday lunch but only one of the specials available. Drinks eye wateringly expensive, so overall cost for 4 people two courses plus a couple of drinks, coffee and service well in excess of £200 - poor value.
I had the venison, which was cooked to perfection and tasted delicious.
My sweet potatoes were tasty too.
I think if you want to have a quality meal in fabulous surroundings with efficient and friendly service then this is the place to go.
Felt that the service in Leeds, Guildford and Edinburgh was better than the York restaurant unfortunately. York was not as attentive and got the bill wrong.
Lovely meal, great service, good value, friendly staff would return.
The staff at The Ivy York were so accommodating to our every request. The food was delicious, complete with one of your own celebration cakes.
I tried to order a cake for a celebration at The Ivy , London today, but was disappointed to find its not available in every outlet.
Another fabulous visit!
We had booked a meal with friends who were visiting so didn't want to disappoint them. Needless to say it was a complete triumph. The food choice is varied, something for everyone. The service was excellent, our Waitress Christina was lovely and extremely efficient. Our meal was delicious. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend The Ivy.
After previous meals I would recommend.
After this meal it wasn’t good enough to recommend
A lovely setting and great food...service was attentive but not stuffy!
The whole experience was lovely - food fabulous and great service. Really lovely surroundings and thoroughly enjoyed our evening.
Lovely food not too much so you were either over full or leaving it
We loved the place, the ambience and the service most of all. The food ranged from ordinary to excellent.
Took my wife there for a birthday meal. Everything is exceptional; the food, the service everything...
We were there on Thursday evening and we had the most attentive waitress. So sorry we do not know her name. This was our first visit and would without doubt recommend to friends. We had a most delicious meal. Lovely atmosphere. Thank you.
Good all round experience. Food was good, starter could have been bigger in my opinion but the main was good. Fair selection of food and drinks and great service from the staff
Brilliant place and very pretty. Brought me a lovely little birthday cake for my birthday to me on my table.
Perfect attention to detail , made a 80th birthday special
This was our 4th visit to The Ivy in York and our previous experiences were first class. On this occasion, the visit did not live up to our expectations. The welcome was good but the situation of our table was disappointing, it was one of three in the window area, the other tables had 4 chairs but ours only had 2 so there was nowhere to put anything other than the floor. Service was fair/efficient but nowhere near what we had on our other visits. The food was generally good but some of the salad on one of the main course was limp and tired looking. The chocolate sauce poured over our mixed berry dessert was not distributed evenly. The flat white coffees we finished off were bordering on cold! We chose York because on previous visits to The Ivy, we believe it to be better than the Harrogate and Leeds branches, on the visit today we believe that they are very much the same and will not be in a rush to revisit.
Always enjoy The Ivy, from the lovely friendly front of house to the helpful waiting staff.
First time at the Ivy in York. Even on a Tuesday night the restaurant was pretty busy with a nice "vibe" and relaxed atmosphere. . The decor is excellent with the walls full of pictures and photographs relavent to the local area and beyond. The staff were polite and professional. The food was good but did not have the WOW factor. A visit to the Ivy is not cheap especially if you want a nice bottle of wine with your meal. Then there is the service charge. However you know this before you book so no problem there. I would definitely recommend a visit to the Ivy.
I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who suffers from a food intolerance. Although it had been stated during the booking procedure that I have intolerances for wheat and dairy the restaurant seemed unable to offer any wheat and dairy alternatives despite the best efforts of the server. Why state on the menu ‘if you have intolerances speak to our staff’ if the restaurant is unable or unwilling to offer any alternatives.
A lovely meal in pleasant surroundings. All the staff were attentive and helpful.
This was a lovely meal. The dessert was outstanding. The service was attentive without being obtrusive and we will certainly go again.
We went for our first wedding anniversary meal, I had emailed at the booking that my wife was heavily pregnant and would need a table with a bit more room.
When we arrived we were greeted with a happy anniversary, a lovely table and gorgeous food.
We even got an anniversary cake!
Great ambience with excellent waiting staff knowledgeable about the menu.
We absolutely loved it.
Resteraunt little busy for quite lunch time dining. Could fault nothing else. Wonderful food and service
Excellent, exceeded our expectations! Service exceptional. Food delicious! Buzzing environment.
Will be back!
a lovely experience that I will definite enjoy again and recommend to family and friends. My friends are still talking about our lovely time
Nice restaurant not great service but would try again, last time visited service was good
What a beautiful restaurant . We had breakfast here for my daughters birthday on October 6th. We were seated at a lovely corner window table . The menu caters for all tastes and the food on arrival was beautifully presented and tasted delicious . Staff are attentive but not overly so - absolutely perfect . The Ivy feels like a real treat but the reasonable prices mean you can go regularly and enjoy the experience . We will definitely return and can recommend the restaurant wholeheartedly .
Hi I would like to complain about our visit to the Ivy in York at 9.30pm Saturday 5th October 2019.
We arrived at 9.25 to be stood in the doorway with no one to greet us
when the lady came over she said the table was not ready and could we have a drink at the bar
we stood at the bar waiting to be served but was ignored as another customer who came after us was served before us.
My wife saw a small bar table next to the front door and went to sit down when the customer left it but was then told she could not sit there unless we had a table booked which we explained we did but did not want to sit near the front door.
I ordered the drinks but then we were shown to our table at 9.46pm
We sat at the table for 10 minutes with no drink and no menus when a waitress came over to take our order where we explained we had no menus yet.
In the meantime the couple next to us were complaining about the service charge on their bill as they said the service that they had had was terrible.
The drinks then came and so did the menu
We made our orders and the starter arrived which mine was the tempura prawns which are supposed to be crispy but were soggy.
We ordered 2 more drinks off a gentleman in a black suit.
Which never came!!
The Mains came and we explained we had ordered 2 more drinks but they had not arrived
I ordered the sirloin steak which smelt very burnt on the outside but was OK on the inside but when i tasted it the burnt taste was horrible as though something had burn on the griddle and then my steak was done and it left a horrible after taste
Also the broccoli was raw and not aldente which my wife could not eat!
We spoke to the waitress about it who agreed it did smell burnt and offered to change it but i wanted to eat my meal with my wife so refused.
I then asked her about our drinks again as they had not arrived
They then came third time lucky!
The lady offered us deserts but we declined and she bought us the bill which she said the steak was taken off b
The Ivy was overall disappointing; we were seated next to a till which made our dining experience even noisier and not the relaxing time we’d hoped for. The starters and pre-meal bloody marys were exquisite and the service generally prompt however what really let it down was the mains. My dad ordered the “shepherdess pie” which was a vegetarian alternative to the “shepherd’s pie” (one of only two mains that were vegetarian, the other of which was a salad.) What actually came was the meat version followed by my father having to explain to the waitress why what came was wrong. My main was the “blackened cod” which was nice although the one tender stem broccoli which accompanied it was impossible to cut through so I ended up leaving most of my food. Plus, because of the wait for the other main to arrive I’d already finished and had to wait. Despite one of the mains being taken off the bill, the cost was still in excess of £90 with a bottle of wine as well. All in all very disappointing considering the status of The Ivy, one would expect a lot more.
Really disappointed with my dining experience at the Ivy. Had to wait for our table to be ready, main courses we’re over cooked and burnt and had to be sent back. Service charge is included in the bill so make sure you check it.
Don’t know if this was because I went on a busy Saturday night or if it is just overrated and very expensive for what was effectively burger and chips.
It’s nice for going out for dinner for a reason - birthday, anniversary, graduation. The price is worthwhile for these events, otherwise I wouldn’t go for just a one of meal. Also don’t be afraid to ask for a different table, my partner and I went for our anniversary and sadly didn’t get a very good table - right next to the till with servers rushing back and forth and talking in my ear the whole time. They were kind enough to bring out a little pudding for our anniversary though. Overall, go for an event and to celebrate something special if anything.
A lovely experience. Table request met which was appreciated.
I have actually just sent you an email this morning re our meal on Saturday evening.
We were really pleased with the food and service however we were hugely disappointed with our table.
We were in the bar area on a tiny table with no table cloth next to the glass screen where we could see the backs of the staff welcoming customers.
It was a surprise meal for my husbands birthday and I was really looking forward to bringing him here as I have been before.
Unfortunately we felt that we didn’t experience the real feel of the resteraunt as we were in a bar area on a bar table in the corner looking on to everyone else in the lovely resteraunt with their far nicer tables with white table cloths and comfy chairs.
I didn’t like to complain at the time as I didn’t want to spoil our evening but I really feel like we missed out on the real experience at the Ivy.
I was disappointed as I wanted to show my husband what a lovely place it was but instead we felt as if we were eating in the waiting area.
We paid the same as anyone else but for a far less luxurious experience as them.
It really has put us off returning or recommending the Ivy to anyone else.
I look forward to hearing back from you
