The Ivy St. Helen’s Square
Marking down as we told venue it was wife's 40th birthday. The greater acknowledged it when we arrived. We then saw other tables be given a complimentary dessert with a candle which we didn't get. I left disappointed as my wife wasn't treated the same as other guests also celebrating. Not good
We ate here on a Sunday evening and everything was excellent, food, service and atmosphere. After our meal we sat at the bar for a cocktail and again these were excellent. It was our first time at the Ivy but we would definately eat here again
An excellent meal. The duck starter had wonderful flavours and textures, for mains one had steak the other the pork cheeks. Both excellent although the additional portion of spinach was needed to give sufficient vegetables for our taste. The service was excellent throughout.
Disappointed in the service, not as friendly or helpful as other Ivys.
The vibe wasn’t at the same level as other Ivy establishments we have visited.
The fillet steak was not to the usual standard expected or received.
Our table didn’t have sanitiser or a list of the specials and we were not advised what they were.
A shame as we have previously had good experiences and positive feedback.
Your waiter, aged 19, was outstanfing especially considering it was only his second....
Very limited options for a vegan…. Service was great, atmosphere was great, it’s the Ivy, so good.
Food very average. Burgers v v dry. Courgette Frites greasy and oil they were fried in a little old.
Service hot and cold. Totally forgot I’d requested a Birthday Dessert for my daughter.
Nice atmosphere but acoustics harsh so hard to hear everyone at the table when they spoke.
Food was OK but not outstanding with respect to the cost
Good quality food, nicely presented. Good service and very pleasant surroundings, right in the centre of York. Our first time but definitely on our list next time we are in town.
The duck curry contained inedible parts: gristle and skin. Otherwise it was a flavoursome dish.
The waiter was extremely attentive to the point of intrusion. Very polite but too attentive. Training need: waiting staff need to be able to read the atmosphere of a table and intuit when to approach and when not to.
We all had the cooked breakfast. The produce was very good the bacon with it been streaky could have been crispy but it wasn’t. It also could have been a little bit hotter than it was but overall it was very nice. As a treat now and then I would definitely recommend.
Perfect food and impeccable service, lovely staff! Would recommend for any occasion and can’t wait to revisit!
Lovely evening at The Ivy.
All food tasty and well presented, only issue was it wasn't piping hot.
Soup was like warm and the pigs cheeks were also warm rather than hot.
Still tasted good though
Great evening for 4 girlfriends to celebrate 2 birthdays
We had a lovely evening in the Ivy - York. Staff were very attentive and the food was delicious.
Super service, super food super place in fact super
Enjoyed a lovely evening with excellent food, cocktails and service.
York Ivy is fabulous. Staff and food great. Highly recommended.
Having been before I felt the service this time was not up to their previous standard, the food was ok but did not wow us ! The salad was not dressed, the chips were frozen and the sourdough bread was so tough it was painful on our teeth, had really been liking forward to our visit but next time in York will be eating elsewhere I’m afraid.
Absolutely brilliant staff and quality food and cocktails
Lovely customer service and seated straight away as we had a booking. Coats taken as we sat.
Random selection of food on the menu.
Ordered the minute steak to be pink as my friend did too. Neither steaks came pink and were a bit chewy.
Squid delicious with the garlic dip and house wine good value.
A bit noisy however was a Saturday and all staff very accommodating but did forget table water at one point.
Slightly overpriced food but service made up for it.
Was a treat but wouldn’t rush back.
From the moment we walked through the door, the staff at The Ivy made us feel so welcome and couldn't do enough for us. The food was excellent, I had Eggs Benedict and my friend Salmon with wasabi. We never felt rushed and they even presented me with a small cake for my birthday which was a wonderful surprise!
I cant wait to return!
Great food and attentive helpful servers. Will definitely be back.
Food excellent, drinks excellent, service excellent, only downside is how close the tables are together, there is no privacy.
Beautiful setting, great service and great food. Recommend highly
We came to The Ivy last night for my birthday meal! And all we can say is that it was outstanding! Everything was just beautiful, the staff were very attentive and just so lovey and welcoming, the food was out of this world, hot & tasty! There isn’t one thing we would change! It was just a wonderful evening! Xx
What was supposed to be a relaxing evening with good food & service was actually a horrid experience of being force fed & constant topping up of wine glasses. I did ask the waiter not to top my glass up anymore it was fine. The starter was good but once the main courses arrived it was constant topping up of our glasses with wine. Once the plates were taken away we were immediately given the dessert menus & as we were talking were pushed under our arms. We asked if we could have a break before the next course when he returned minutes later I felt so pressured I said we won’t have a dessert thank you so he picked up the bottle of wine poured some in my husband’s glass & the rest of the bottle in to my glass so I had over half a glass of wine to enable him to take the bottle away . I asked for the bill & explained I felt uncomfortable I asked him to take off the service charge as the service was shocking I felt rushed & under pressure to eat & leave .. as a local who has eaten there since it opened it was apparent now that the priority was the turnover of tables not the relaxing experience over dinner I expected … a fast food service for tourists
Amazing time here with my friend… highly recommend it… and the chocolate bombe dessert x
Excellent set menu, drinks expensive but overall a very nice birthday treat.
Perfect lunch, great service. Could not fault the food. Best toilets I've ever been in!!!!! ALL fantastic. Well done to all
Excellent meal, as usual. Great ambience and excellent service.
Great place to eat. Very friendly staff and great atmosphere. Food very tasty and plenty to choose from. I would recommend a visit.
Lovely place to go for a special occassion. Staff and service excellent and very helpful .
Ladies facilities clean and worth checking out for the decor
Had a great evening meal. The food was fantastic and the staff very attentive, we didn’t have to refill our wine glasses once.
Didn’t expect such poor service. Table wasn’t ready so we were seated at the bar for 30 mins then another 20 mins for the drinks order & then another 15 for the food order. Food was okay, none of the party were particularly blown away. The bill came with the 12% service charge which we refused to pay. Cannot believe the staff didn’t pick up on the fact that we were disappointed with the whole experience and assumed the tip was going to be paid.
From being greeted at the door to leaving the service, food, ambiance were excellent. Felt really welcome and looked after at the bar and table. Decor was really great, lovely evening.
Excellent Service! Great Food. Good choice of wine
Outstanding food, service and atmosphere- highly recommend a visit !
Overall excellent experience, food, service and ambience. We ordered off the set menu, goats curd, and ham croquette for starters, and highly recommend the cod goujons for main. We will be back
