Great post cinema supper for a 14-54 group! A couple of shared portions of zucchini fritte to start and a great choice of main course options, some shared puddings finished our supper very nicely...our only slight negative, it took a while to get our bill!

We dined at The Ivy on our last visit to York in March 2018 and had a truly wonderful lunch. Coming up from London just for the day, we considered other restaurants and finally decided to eat at The Ivy because our last experience had been so enjoyable. We were not disappointed . Everything starting with our aperitifs was spot on. (By the way, they may have the best olives in England.) Highly recommend the scallop starter and duck liver parfait is delicious (and served at a perfect temperature). Hake special was perfectly cooked and the smoked haddock and salmon fishcake was an elevated version of what could be a cliche. Even the spinach with toasted pignoli nuts was special. It was a large, lovely meal supported by a very nice bottle of albarino. Absolutely no room for dessert.

On our last visit we were comfortably seated in their interior room and this time, having booked in advance, we enjoyed a banquette table in the bright front room. There is a great deal to commend the Ivy. The quality of the food, appealing wine list, atmosphere, glassware and cutlery - all of these elements contribute to good value for the experience. Service is knowledgeable, attentive and professional. Food doesn't fly out of the kitchen, but we found it paced well given the number of tables being served and the quality of the dishes.

We'd happily eat here any day of the week or for a special occasion as the menu offers the opportunity to eat simply and run (why would you want to?) or dine memorably.

Bitterly disappointed.
Arrived and all was fine, friendly welcoming staff, great atmosphere and pre dinner drinks, starters very nice. Evening completely ruined by abismal main course. Kitchen seemed unable to cook a steak to order, with both attempts sent back. See trip advisor reviews.

We booked last minute to celebrate both my daughter's and my own birthday. We had passed several times previously but not gone in so as this was a special occasion we gave it a go. We were amazed by the service from the moment we arrived until the moment we left, very attentive waiting staff with a sense of humour along with superb food.

Lovely spot in the middle of York city centre. Service very good, had a slight issue with wrong meal ordered but wasn't charged for that. Pudding choices were lovely with a salted caramel bombe. Not cheap but not overpriced either, good wine choices, will definitely visit again. Need to book to ensure you get a seat.

Tables are a little to closet co located, meaning a lunch for two, for time together, will feel a little more like meet you neighbour. Room between tables in general means lots of posteriors brushing past. That aside, the food was stood quality, the meat a nice cut and the fish fresh and the vegetables perfectly cooked. The service was acceptable rather than awesome - one point they scored well on was delivery of the bill prompt and efficient. Ok but don’t expect more than available elsewhere.

We had an unexpected additional guest in our party and the Ivy team were helpful, polite and accommodating to move us to a larger table - making light of the situation despite it being awkward to deal with. They were also very patient in waiting for us to order.

The lady looking after our table was lovely and read our needs very well. She brought my sister a little tart with candle in it for her Birthday which really made her smile.

Although the drinks took a while longer to arrive than I'd expect - the Bloody Mary was exactly as I like it and had a good kick!

Thank you for a lovely family brunch x

We had a lovely meal the service was excellent from our waitress in particular. Our booking was for 9pm but we did not get a table until 9.25 which was disappointing. They were apologetic though. All staff very friendly and courteous

The waitress greeted me with “we are very busy in here”. She served my wine. My daughters arrived. Long wait. She then served their drinks. Long wait to take food order. Never told us about the special we had to ask her if there were any. She was clearly stressed. Food was fine but spoiled by lack lustre shoddy service from the waitress. No ice with water offered. No one asked if we wanted second drinks. Not good!!

We visited the Ivy for our wedding anniversary. Food was really tasty and reasonably priced. The service was excellent. Staff were very attentive. Our visit was rounded off with a small dessert delivered to our table by our waitress with a candle and anniversary chocolate. Nice little touch! Would definitely go back when I’m next in York.

A friends catch up after nearly 2 years apart was treated with such respect and grace by the staff. Having booked for lunch we were still there at 6pm and the team made us feel welcome throughout. Needing the table for other customers was handled so smoothly by finding us a comfy, quiet space at the bar to continue our reminiscing. Great food, although the all-day weekend brunch menu is an eclectic mix. Great selection of drinks. A bit pricey - definitely on the "treat" scale but lovely.

Excellent food and service. A bit over priced for the quantities especially as all sides such as vegetables are charged as extras. Specials on the day are not written up anywhere which means a surprise when the bill arrives (£23.95 for a Veal burger). Be good to have this confirmed when the special is described at the table during ordering. The Ivy cocktail however is really good!

The Ivy is somewhere you can dress up for, the decor and ambiance is delightful. You are made to feel welcome and are waited upon very attentively.
However, I have been twice now and my pot of coffee went cold very quickly. Also, the food could have been quite a bit hotter.

I was celebrating my 40 year friendship with my best friend. The food was lovely and the Apple Tart with Calvados is the best sweet I’ve ever eaten and is a wonderfully flamboyant way to finish a celebration meal. Wine was good. Service was polite, swift and unobtrusive and the cost was more than reasonable. Looking forward to a return visit. Xx

We booked as we had got married the previous Saturday and this was our wedding present to each other. Greeted by friendly staff. They asked what the occasion was and we explained and within 5 minutes there was 2 complimentary glasses of bubbly brought to us. The food was excellent!! We will be going back and taking my in-laws with us. Thank you to everyone at The IVY in York.

I wouldn't recommend this, only because it was just ok. The food and drinks arrived stupidly quickly (within about 10 mins of seating down) which meant the meal felt far from leisurely. I had the lamb, the portion was moderate and we then waited a long time to get our plates cleared, whilst we sat with empty glasses.

The food was ok - but not spectacular and the atmosphere nice.

Visited for my son’s 21st birthday. We were immediately made to feel special. Attentive waitresses. Fish pie was to die for. cocktails great. My only mini winge was the creme brûlée was unusually cold. My husband had steak egg and chips and he said his food was cold. My fish pie though, was worth driving all the way from London though. Heavenly.
Lively bustly vibe and lovely secluded table. Thank you very much.

Extremely disappointed to pay £7.50 for a pot of tea for two which contained three tea cups worth of tea?!
I would expect one tea pot per person not to share!
