Another outstanding evening at the Ivy St Helens Square. Undoubtedly the best place by far in York. Steak tartare was perfectly spiced, blackened cod cooked to perfection, crispy duck salad, fish cakes and shepherd’s pie also got high marks. Our welcome was full of warmth and the service and attention we received throughout the evening was professional, friendly...... nothing too much trouble ..... we all loved it and had a great experience... again.
Went to York for a few days booked dinner was not disappointed everything from staff food was amazing
It’s superb, a firm favourite when we visit York
The staff are excellent.
Polite and friendly, we were made to feel that our custom was valued. Our server was excellent, we told her manager that she had given excellent service
My partner and I went for my birthday. Amazing food. Lovely atmosphere and staff were really helpful and attentive.
3rd visit can not fault it FABULOUS great atmosphere great food and service
My husband and I visited to celebrate our anniversary.
The staff are lovely and make you feel special. They’re very attentive without being intrusive.
I was a bit disappointed with my steak as it was quite cold and a bit overdone but other than that, the food was very good.
The drinks are expensive with a g & t rolling in at a whopping £10!
We really enjoyed our evening and would definitely recommend The Ivy.
I had the Chocolate Bombe and it was well worth the visit. We did have mains too.
From the moment we stepped through the doors, we knew we were in for a special evening. We dined early (5:30) as we had our three year old with us. She was very well looked after (with a colouring set and tailored options from the menu), as were we. The service was faultless, the food exquisite, and the ambiance was perfect. We have promised ourselves a child free visit next time., so that we can better enjoy the offerings from the bar!
Lovely food atmosphere service!
Warm cosy & comfortable
Enjoyed a lovely evening celebrating my wife’s birthday as well as my own . Excellent food and service .
Always a special experience, but both times we have been to the Ivy York we have had a good twenty minutes wait for coffee & Tea after our deserts which is disappointing as it was ordered to arrive simultaneously?
We waited nearly an hour before our meal arrived. At which point we had nearly drank our wine.Other customers who came in after us were served before us. The table we were escorted to was in a poor position I asked if we could move to another table the front of house person was so long getting back to us we just moved. The meal was poor value for money & I didn’t want to pay the service charge but didn’t want to make a fuss in front of my friend. Staff wiping tables swept food onto the floor training required!
Lovely restaurant with exceptional service and attention to detail. The starters were absolutely delicious. Unfortunately the main courses were a bit of a let down. The hamburger was very dry and almost burnt. The shepherds pie was "nice" - also quite expensive considering the size and no accompiaments. All in all we would visit again.
I love everything about this restaurant and the staff are absolutely fantastic. Best restaurant in York!
Brunch was delicious and the restaurant has been beautifully decorated, felt like the perfect treat for a girls trip!
Food and service was as good as ever, only downside was that 2 of the staff were really scruffy, with food stains on uniforms (at 9:30am), pockets bulging, ill fitting jacket and trousers (male waiter). A rarity on our frequent visits, normally staff are super-smart. Did not compare favourably to Betty’s where staff are without exception always immaculate.
Good food, outstanding service but we felt crammed in like "Sardines" you could hear all conversations beside us and I feel " The Ivy" put profit before people's comfort. Therefore I will not recommend ...
Dreadful smell of fat throughout the dining room. Waitress brought the wrong drinks. Chicken dish was very dry.
We found the experience really unpleasant. Our waitress was unsmiling and paced around watching us like a prison warden on duty. Spoiled our evening. Shame because the food was good overall. Would not recommend.
To add to this the tip was included in the bill - which added insult to injury!
It’s a very good restaurant with first class service , the only two issues we had were it’s too warm inside you need shorts and a t shirt on, the air conditioning was definitely not on the windows are steamed up so that tells you enough, they serve there own brand lager it’s not good a wider range would be better, stick to the wine
First class service delivered by the team! Food was delicious, really enjoyed our night there and can’t wait to go back👍🏻
My chicken Milanese was a bit lacking in umph. Maybe it needed more seasoning? On the other hand my partner raves about the game pie from the specials. Service was, as always, exceptional.
Lovely restaurant, busy Saturday afternoon. Could hardly hear my daughter speaking to me. The noise was too much. Food very good . I chose the Shepard’s pie. Delicious but a small portion. Had to order vegetables to go with it . Service very good , cappuccino cake with coffee sauce was just delicious. Would recommend. Overall a lovely meal with drinks. Not cheap but my daughter and myself had a lovely afternoon.
We really enjoyed our meal and although I maybe should of asked I wasn't told whether you had any specials or not, as fir that it would not stop me from going back again.
Excellent service, excellent food great venue , would recommend.
I went with my mum Christmas shopping we had a loverly meal
Lovely restaurant with very friendly staff. The food was excellent and there was plenty of it
Perfect for brunch and a chat with 4 of us happy with the ambiance. Excellent fresh food, cooked perfectly with helpful, charming staff.
Love breakfast at The Ivy, my parents were visiting for the weekend, Dad’s hard to please and said it was fantastic
Loved our visit. The building is stunning and the decoration is beautiful. All of the staff were welcoming and friendly. Attention to detail in the environment is appreciated. We went for breakfast. The eggs Benedict was delicious.
My only criticism is that the entrance lobby smelled of strong fish odour. I know that we attended for breakfast service and there’s a possibility of kippers and salmon being served but I think some sort of extraction, or air freshener/neutraliser would be beneficial.
A really lovely evening and the right place for a birthday celebration dinner with style. The food was excellent, the service faultless (attentive but not intrusive) and the ambience beautiful. Just perfect.
The staff made the evening - thank you for a lovely birthday evening!
Another excellent afternoon at The Ivy in York. Johnny our waiter could not have been more helpful and gave us friendly and informative service. Great place to spend an afternoon in good company with great food, allways memorable. Looking for a reason to book the Etty Room sometime in the near future.
Lovely lunch, service was amazing, I will definitely be returning!
Always a wonderful evening at Thd Ivy York.
Amazing food and warm service.
Very good food, excellent service, fine cocktails (we recommend the "Dark and Stormy"!).
Good location in the City Centre. The staff were extremely efficient and went about their responsibilities in a professional way and were very friendly. A wide choice of food was available. Our choice of food was from the early evening set menu which was of excellent quality and very reasonably priced as was the ala carte menu. Would not hesitate to use this restaurant in the future
A lovely restaurant in the centre of York. Great food, great for a special occasion
We had lunch here whilst on out annual mother and daughter shopping trip to York. We saw The Ivy last year but had not booked and did not want to sit at the bar so we booked this year and we were not disappointed.
Staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was lovely, we felt like we had been transported back to the 1920's. It was also spotless.
The food was brilliant, as was the service. We did not have to wait long for drinks, mains or dessert. It was a little pricey for lunch but as it was a special trip I didn't mind paying a little more to have a nice experience. Would recommend and visit again.
