The Ivy St. Helen’s Square
Lovely Valentine’s Day meal, our waitress, Christina I believe, provided excellent service (even when I ordered the wrong wine)
Valentine’s Day afternoon tea
Everything was great but let down by very slow service. All staff were charming but we were constantly having to look to attract their attention to order, get bill, pay etc.
Excellent service. Greta options for gluten free. Fantastic visit. Would certainly recommend
We had a bad meal at Xmas but gave them benefit of doubt this week but it was awful yet again plus they had run out of their signature ivy burger!!
We did not know what to expect. It was lovely. I personally don’t like sitting in the middle of a room which this table of 6 was. I felt like I was in Piccadilly Circus as people constantly walked round us. It’s not the place for a quiet meal. Food was simply outstanding and service good.
Service was top drawer, food excellent and not over-priced. We will be back.
Great meal with clients, service very good.
Great atmosphere, very lovely staff and a really interesting and tasty menu. Id highly recommend it
Absolutely amazing dining experience. Food was devine. Beautiful setting. Atmosphere perfect. Facilities excellent. Staff attentive and pleasant. Would go again and recommend to everyone!
Great service, staff genuinely friendly and helpful. Food amazing. Atmosphere perfect. We went at a quieter time so don’t know how busy it gets and if that would impact on anything.
We enjoyed a lovely meal in a beautiful setting. Our party ranged in age from 12 to 72 and everyone felt relaxed. The food was delicious and the service was efficient and unobtrusive. Particularly liked the special touch of a "Happy Anniversary" tart for my parents-in-law who were celebrating!
Absolutely loved this place. Staff were friendly and efficient. Food was delicious :) will definitely return.
Bread and olives to start with, bread was fine but 5 olives on the plate! Fillet steak for main which had to be sent back due to overcooking. Couple next to us sent their steaks back 3 times then walked out. When steak arrived again for me it was cooked well but wasn’t seasoned at all and tasteless. Truffle fries were very average. Red wine and rosemary sauce tasteless. Pudding was very nice! £11 service charge was outrageous.
Fantastic place - great friendly service. Food beautiful. Thank you very much for making my husband's birthday so special.
Exceptional service from Jonny, food and champagne lovely. A great evening.
I base this review on value for money and the afternoon tea's were certainly not that. I understand that is what afternoon tea is about but two tiny cumber sandwiches and two even smaller salmon bites for the savory was not what i was expecting. The sweets were a couple of tiny doughnuts, a tiny mouse and 4 small scones. Along with a pot of tea and a small glass of champagne we were charged over £51. I immediately asked them to take the service charge off which they did not ask if we were happy to pay.
Never again will i visit an Ivy. I believe there is a place next door which is much better value but with the same quality.
We regularly visit the Ivy and have always enjoyed a good meal. The staff are always very friendly and really do get to know the regular guests which is apprecaited. On our recent visit it was my husband’s birthday and we had an upstairs table with a lovely view over Lendall. Great room and meal. Well recommended.
The staff were all so professional and yet so warm and friendly. The food was delicious and the ambiance perfect.
It was wonderful to have a brunch during weekend with the excellent atmosphere. Although the food was a bit expensive but the food and the environment worth it.
Lovely birthday breakfast treat for my wife. Fabulous food, attentive service and very nice ambience. This is our third visit and we will definitely be back. Highly recommended.
We recently visited the ivy in Leeds which was an amazing experience so booked for the ivy York and found the service was not as good we was offered to go to the bar after our meal to have a drink when we got to the bar there was nowhere to sit so ended up paying the bill stood up in the restaurant which we found very unprofessional.
Food a little bland and left feeling hungry.
The service was good and restaurant was really clean, but based on the food and value for money I wouldn’t go back
The only slight annoyance was the small entrance lobby door arrangement which meant it was limited for standing space whilst waiting for coats. Not good
Lunch with my sister and my niece. Fabulous setting. Like a 1930s Hemingway novel. Food glorious and way too much choice. Busy but still calm and relaxing with wonderful waiter service. Will recommend to everyone I know.
Best customer service and consistency in the quality of the food. The host is highly professional and welcoming. Best place around! (And I have dine globally - always a pleasure to have this locally)
Restaurant a little darkly lit, couples struggling to read the menu. Service charge on just two diners not needed in my opinion if food & service is good a tip will be given. Good delicious though.
A wonderful lunch I asked for a window seat which we got and I mentioned it was my daughters birthday and they brought out a little cake with a candle in and a chocolate. Such a lovely touch my daughter (14) loved it , made her day. Great staff, stunning food, service from start to finish was impeccable, location perfect and the interior and ambiance is second to none! Thank you so much
Lovely restaurant and first class friendly service
A group of us went for a late breakfast on Sunday. The service was slow and staff did not bring all drinks out together and had to be reminded. When the waiter asked how our food was we stated the beans weren't warm and he simply walked away.
Starters were lovely. All 4 main courses were below average and extremly over priced. Wont be going back
Maggie our waitress was absolutely superb and made our visit one to remember.
Special treat for us so was really expecting something special but I was dissappointed. On arrival strong smell of fish throughout - was a little off putting to non fish eaters. I ordered the Afternoon Tea after being told by the Waiter it was better than others in the area. The scones were rock hard and had to ask two waitresses before they were exchanged and no apology. The other party members did enjoy their choices and presentation was very good. Be aware if you are asked if you would like water you will be charged £3.50 a bottle unless you request tap water.
Booked a table for 3_45pm taken to table on time ordered high tea after five minutes tea and coffee came after 15minutes but then waited over one hour before we got our high tea.waitress kept apologising saying they were very busy .we think they forgot to put our order in until the waitress kept noticing we had not been served.this was a suprise tea for my sick wife.very disappointed.
Just a very relaxed and pleasant environment. If I was to be picky (and it would have to be very picky of me) I felt the puddings were slightly more expensive in comparison to the main courses. Having said that the chocolate bombe that I had was possibly the best pudding I've ever had. I had a brilliant birthday lunch. Thank you.
We went to celebrate my wife's birthday, drawn by thr reputation as much as anything. The lunch time menu was simple food (I had steak, egg and chips) but it was well executed and delivered by courteous staff. Lulled into a false sense of security by the main course, my senses were then blown away by the luxury of the desserts. Chocolate bombe with vanilla ice cream and salted caramel sauce. I can honestly say that I have never had any thing even close to this. The final bill was more than I'd normally pay for a meal, but worth every penny. Would I go again? Without doubt. The experience was rounded off beautifully when they brought out a tiny raspberry tart, with a candle and a chocolate sign that said happy birthday
On a busy Saturday brunchtime the service was attentive and efficient by smartly dressed staff. The food was served in good time and delicious. I recommend the chocolate bombe dessert in particular. A little noisier than I prefer but it was Saturday and York city centre was very busy with the Ice Trail, ice sculptures exhibited around the city centre. Outside this restaurant was a head and shoulders carving, wearing a crown of, you've guessed it, ivy.
We arrived unavoidably very late for our booking, which we had already had to delay. Despite the kitchen being about to close, all the staff were extremely helpful, pleasant and patient and did not try to rush our supper. The food was excellent and the experience was a lovely end to our evening. Thank you so much to the staff and sorry for keeping you so late!
This was our first time eating in the restaurant. We had a fabulous meal, food unite pricey but of a high standard. The service we received was lovely to. A lovely venue with a great atmosphere. We will be back again.
Our evening at the ivy was very special. The food and service was outstanding and my ivy gin and tonic was amazing.
