– Great spot for drinks, but I wouldn’t come hungry
The Jailhouse in Belmont has a few things going for it right off the bat. Parking is generous there’s a lot behind the building, the church lot across the street, and even the steakhouse spots nearby (the bartender assured us it’s fine to park there, despite the signage). We made a reservation, but quickly learned it isn’t really necessary. It’s a small space with more of a first-come, first-serve flow.
The setup is unique: when you walk in, the humidor is on the first floor and the bar is upstairs. The smoking lounge is fully closed off, and the filtration is solid even as a non-smoker, I didn’t feel bothered at all. We started at the bar and later moved into the back room.
My drink, a low-proof Pineapple Upside-Down Cake cocktail, was just okay. For food, I ordered the margherita flatbread and my friend tried the salmon bites and this is where the experience dipped. The food is prepared off-site since there’s no kitchen behind the bar, and it shows. Some dishes arrived covered, others didn’t, and the whole setup raised some concerns about food handling and temperature safety.
I genuinely enjoyed my night because of the company I was with, but overall I wouldn’t return for a meal. I’d recommend The Jailhouse strictly for cocktails and atmosphere — not for dining.
