The Jolly Fisherman on the Quay at Newcastle - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
We had a fabulous afternoon meeting friends not seen for 40 years. The staff were friendly & attentive but not overwhelming. Food was lovely and we were not rushed out so altogether a really good experience. I'll be going back with family and other friends thanks so much for a great afternoon.
We visited during the Newcastle Restaurant Week and, as on previous occasions, it was excellent value for money. Although, as one would expect, the choice was limited, what was available was of a very high standard and beautifully presented. We will definitely be visiting this restaurant again (hopefully, soon !).
we have been there before and enjoyed it so much we returned for restaurant week
it is a lovely place and the food and service could not be any better
once again we had a lovely table at the window and we had help with my husbands walker
the live theatre is very near so the ideal place for a meal before the theatre , the sage is just over the bridge
we enjoyed our visit very much
I went there with my husband, he has mobility problems, the staff were so helpful
we had a lovely table at the window, we both had fish and chips and shared a starter
I enjoyed a glass of wine with my meal, it was just so lovely, we are making a return visit next week, for the restaurant week
thank you to the staff for making our visit so lovely
My boyfriend took me to the Jolly fisherman for a date night and I was not disappointed! We were sat at a window table upon arrival with an amazing view over the quayside. The service was fantastic, particularly from the young gentleman who served us, very helpful when recommending wine and friendly service. The food was amazing!!! We had the Scotch egg and crab soup for starters which were both amazing and had the roast cod and fish pie for main, again amazing! Will 100% be returning!
Booked on OpenTable for late Sunday lunch (3pm), pub and dining room was quiet and we got a table with view over the Tyne, service was excellent waitress and owner/manager came over to talk to us and went through the options available. Food arrived in good time, beef was perfectly prepared, veg was fresh and crisp. Will be going back soon (and often) ...
As a fan of the Craster pub, the Jolly had been on my list for a while and didn't disappoint. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and attentive and a Birthday glass of fizz for my sister in law was an unexpected and lovely touch. Also no issue from the team with the mess we (9m/o niece) left behind. We went for the set Sunday menu which had plenty to choose from and the emphasis on local food and booze was a great draw.
I think I'd have been a little disappointed not to have a spot by the window so was glad to have the advantage of the view. We'll definitely return when we're back to see the rellies.
Had delicious Sunday dinner, Roast beef portions generous and cooked to perfection, vegetables of turnip , mangetout, broccoli n mashed potato flaversome n freshly made. Dessert choices of cheeseboard and syrup sponge washed down by a lovely Pinot were just what we needed. Waiter was excellent and a spectacular view over the Tyne topped off a lovely afternoon. Will definitely be back
We booked the restaurant for a Friday evening. When we arrived at the bar the live entertainment was deafening, however the ambiance in the first floor restaurant was relaxed. The service was very efficient, the food very good and the price reasonable. I was however surprised at how quiet it was for a Friday night. Definitely on our list for a return visit. Fully recommended.
We have visited the Jolly Fisherman in Craster many times and we were certainly just as impressed with the food on the Quayside. The waitron staff were excellent and very knowledgeable. I gave only 4 stars for ambience which is no reflection on the JF only that when we got there the place was empty. However it soon filled up. We will certainly be back. The food was outstanding and my favourite was the kipper scotch eggs. Mmmmmm. Well done all.
Although the weather was really bad , and not many in the bar downstairs there was excellent entertainment provided by a young singer / guitarist. He created the ambience and made the night a great success. Upstairs in the restaurant the staff were really friendly and helpful with recommendations for food and wine . A fantastic night despite the rain
