Expensive for what you get, small portions and not that tasty
Rustic pub heartily recommended particularly for families. Great food and good service. What’s not to like?
Lovely food, great Covid Measures that made us feel safe.
We always pop in when we are visiting family. I booked online.
we had a lovely afternoon, the food was delicious, the children had a play while we waited for our food.
The added sails for shade is a great idea.
Lovely outdoor space, great pizza.
We will definitely return.
Overall extremely good and the social distancing was excellent
Due to COVID-19 reduced and simple menu, luckily we had great weather to sit outside and the playground was open for the kids
Fantastic food and great service and family friendly.
Always great food and great service! We felt safe Covid 19 Wise as one way system in place with lots of distance between tables and hand sanitiser around.
Excellent service excellent food very Covid aware and good systems in place to keep everyone safe -will be back soon
Excellent food and service. Social distancing was well worked out and effective. Would recommend!
Good food, excellent service, very good COVID precautions, we felt very safe.
A well controlled covid arrangement. We felt very safe, good food and the table service was much preferred to the usual bar counter huddle
Good lunch with healthy portions although a bit haphazard with the ingredients, so way too many chilis on one pizza and way too much onion jam on the other pizza. Staff very welcoming and helpful, plus very efficient EOHO billing experience. The other restaurants took one or two tries to get it right.
A great lunch made more affordable by the help to eat scheme
Good social distance measures in place
Reliably good food and value for money and the kids love it.
Coping well with all the restrictions. Shame they were out of stock of what seemed like basic supplies. Pizza seemed a bit more 'out of a packet' than I remember too. But still an enjoyable meal with staff trying hard. Not keen on the wooden cutlery though.
Lovely garden with good social distancing and plenty of space for our large dog. Everything we tried was truly excellent - top quality food - pizza, pulled pork sandwhich, chicken sandwich, etc. Pizza some of the best we’ve had anywhere. Highly recommended.
Good quality pub food. Well organised and excellent value.
Staff was very nice, venue and social distancing system was good, parking was barely enough. Unfortunately we all thought the food was poor, it felt like the food was prepared in a microwave. Burger bread was awfully dry, the saving grace were the chips, but we didn’t go there for the chips.
I don’t recommend this place and most likely won’t be back.
Delicious pizzas. Outdoor seating with bar. Beautiful garden. Felt safe...regular cleaning and one way system operating. Great experience.
Fantastic food, child friendly and helpful staff. I felt it was COVID safe. Gel available everywhere
The pub has gone out of its way to comply with Covid 19 social distancing, unfortunately this means it had really lost the atmosphere inside as it was so empty with tables removed and an empty bar area. Very attentive service at your table. Very limited menu on offer currently but hopefully that will increase with time. The garden was very full and busy. The pub has been creative in how they can keep serving people with an outside counter. We love this place and hope to see it back to its bustling self inside and out with the usual great choice of dishes and specials in the near future.
This is a great place to take kids - outdoor play area. Staff very friendly and helpful - we had excellent service
Delicious pizzas in a great setting with a nice play area for the kids. Friendly service and great food.
Outside is best. The Jolly Sailors Pub have done a fantastic job during these difficult times. Well done!
Really well organised. Busy but not too loud or crowded. Food pretty good but not excellent
We visited the Jolly sailor on two occasions one night we sat outside and had a beer and some fries and we liked it so much we thought we would book a table for the following evening. However we were a little disappointed in the selection of the menu and also wasn’t really what we expected taste wise...we thought the food was quite bland.
Having said that, the atmosphere was good and you couldn’t fault the service and the waiting staff who were polite and more than helpful which goes along way with us. Would we visit again yes we would.
Made an online reservation. Arrived and all new safety measures explained clearly. The staff were extremely courteous and helpful. The food was excellent and we had clean plates! The kids portions were a good size too. I will definitely be returning when we next come back to the beach.
Nice pub. Always good food. Friendly staff. Good service. Used many a time whilst in Norfolk.
Even in lock down. Great food and service.
Excellent friendly service, host explained procedures clearly and food arrived in good time. Couldn’t fault it.
Fab food and great service would highly recommend a visit
Don't get me wrong- I love the Jolly Sailors, and in covid times, extra understanding should be extended to all pubs and restaurants coping with the extra regulations; I understand this. We have been coming to the pub from Downham Market maybe 5 times a year for about 15 years, and the beer and food has always been of really good quality. It may have been an off night, I don't know, but at this last sitting (paying full price) our food was disappointing compared to previous occasions. Maybe I am mistaken but we seemed to be served re-heated frozen, breaded whitebait, as well as oven chips. My cajun chicken appeared to consist of a plain chicken breast smothered at last minute with a supermarket barbeque sauce. It was not enjoyable. I will say that the staff were great, however- cheerful and attentive. I know it is hard at the moment, but I have recently eaten at two different pubs where they still prepared fresh chips and freshly cooked food, so I know it's possible. I like this pub a lot, so I am sad to give this report, but I hope that the new influx of business might allow them the resources to get back to the standard of food they once served.
Easy to book a table, very busy on arrival but seated in the garden , not much queuing for food and drink. Delicious prawn sizzler pizza and scampi and chips. Lots of dogs in the garden so ours felt quite at home. I last stayed here about 45 years ago in a caravan in the car park. So pleased to see the place thriving this year
Jollys is an old favourite and they have adapted well to the current climate without spoiling the experience. Food still reliable and good value for money and very family friendly.
Always a fun garden to eat in during the summer and this year was no exception. COVID 19 precautions all good.
The only negative comment concerns other diners who seem to think it’s perfectly satisfactory to leave their detritus on and below their table when signs clearly encourage you to tidy up as you leave. Can’t fault management or staff on that as they quickly tidy up themselves.
What a poor experience, we didn't go for half price meal we went for a Birthday lunch, we were given a very sticky table no parasol ( they were left on the empty tables ) very poor limited menu, my husband chose off menu board I went up to order and they didn't have any of his choice despite being on the chalk board , so he picked something else. The lady who served me was very grumpy and not pleasant at all , first she just gave me just cans of drink ( I ask for a lime drink first but surprise surprise no lime !!) I then ask for glasses as who wants to come out for a meal and drink out of a can! So she gave me plastic glasses did not offer ice or lemon etc. Sat back down and she came to table to say they had run out of my husbands second choice ( and we were first people to order that day so god help the rest as that then limited the choice to about 4 dishes or pizza) !! meal arrived on bamboo plates with very small wooden knives and folks impossible to eat green peas with. One of dishes presented was all burnt round edges and very tiny portion, the other a chicken tenders dish ordered as a main meal came with 4 little pieces of chicken. Then we had to bin all our plates etc In a dustbin. The first time we have eaten out since lock down and what an unpleasant experience, I know things have changed but really, we have since been else where and we were served on proper plates with proper cutlery and real glasses all quite civilised .
Nice place and people but disappointed by the menu. No local produce such as fresh fish or shellfish on the menu. I would have expected crab and similar but no sign. Very limited range of main course options and they’d run out of one of them (pulled pork). Mixed salad and a goat’s cheese pizza had far too many black olives in them. Shame really. Burger was ok but not freshly made. A bit on the dry side.
Excellent dinner, well organised and comfortable with all the COVID measures. Food was, as always, fab!
