Overall worth a visit for a lovely dining and bar experience. It was let down with poor service and lack of attentiveness. The initial table drinks order including water took far too long to arrive, even the olivee and starters beat them.
Attentiveness throughout the main course was lacking and knowledge of menu was poor on ordering. There seemed to be low staff numbers with one waitress serving a large area on her own.
As mentioned, worth a visit but make sure you're ready to intervene at the bar when it's your turn. The barman did not acknowledge the queue.
All the courses were over cooked and lacked flavour. My ice cream desert turned up in a melted mess. service was quick and efficient but menu needs updating. Had better here in past. It’s a shame because it has a nice ambience but will be giving it a miss for a while.
Sunday roast lunch on 29 July. Interior decor is nicely done, but the food was a great disappointment. I had roast pork, my partner had roast beef. The pork was OK, three small slices, not brilliant but acceptable, but the vegetables were unbelievably dreadful. The roast potatoes were white and soggy, the half parsnip equally so, and the cabbage was almost raw, more stalk than leaf. I asked for replacement potatoes, which were at least browned, but equally soggy, as if they'd been microwaved, not roasted. My partner's roast beef was also OK, not great, but same problems with the vegetables. Also, his plate of food was only lukewarm, almost cold.
Regarding the drinks, my partner had asked for a large glass of dry house wine at £5.90. However, we were charged for the Pinot at £7.45. When we queried this with the waitress, she said the house wine wasn't dry, so she'd served the Pinot without any prior discussion or agreement.
The service was acceptable, although we waited over 10 minutes for our first drink even though there was only one other table occupied in the restaurant, as we'd booked early at 12.15pm.
We complained to the manager, who was apologetic and generous in the settlement of our bill. He offered a return meal, but we won't be going back.
A roast dinner must be one of the easiest dishes to do well. It's hard to understand how this restaurant managed to get it so wrong.
We have been here many times and always had a good experience. However, on Friday night mine and my friends main courses came out and neither of our husbands did. I then queried with the staff where our husbands meals were and it turned out that one had been marked as delivered but not and my husbands had been missed completely. Both were on the order. It resulted in myself and my friend almost having finished our main course before our husband's arrived. Not acceptable service.
Then we ordered the chocolate bombe dessert which has hot choc sauce to melt it and this wasn't hot enough to melt it so they had to go back and get additional hot sauce. Again not acceptable and not what I have come to expect from this venue.
There was only once before we had a minor issue and the manager (not there on Friday) automatically gave us 10% off the bill without us saying anything.
Friday night our waitress (not her fault she was great) apologised and chased but that was it.
Very poor service
Food very good, although they had run out of some items.
Staff were polite, but for some reason service was slow and restaurant was not that busy.
Lovely place. Staff very nice. Food reasonable quality but cold. Had to be returned. Wasn’t busy so no excuse. If you run a restaurant then at least get the food out hot.
I eat here regularly - usually at lunchtime with my husband and the experience has always been good. When I was looking for a venue for a birthday dinner with some girlfriends I chose the Kings Arms. The pub was absolutely heaving early on a Friday evening and the atmosphere was good. The service was slow - taking our order took a long while as did the arrival of our food. I ordered venison and requested it rare. When it eventually arrived it was seriously overcooked. I told the waitress who said she'd tell the chef. I heard nothing more and asked what the chef had said when I was paying the bill - she said he was sorry! I think my friends' food was OK but it could be that they were being polite as it was my treat!
I'd think seriously about coming here again for dinner as I was really disappointed with this experience. Kitchen and waiting staff under pressure on a busy night? Possibly, but not an excuse for poor food and the lack of reaction to a complaint.
The ambiance is pleasant the service was good, generally the food was OK but the venison was a disgrace - left a third on the plate as was impossible to cut. Waitress replied that another customer had also complained and the comment from the kitchen was that they sometimes got a bad batch! Need a good supplier and or a chef who can tell meat quality before purchasing. No real apology and no compensation. Not impressed.
Reliable and wide menu though the menu always has some things not available. Has become the running joke like substitutions on Tesco orders! Service friendly but food can be slow in coming.
My wifes first 2 choices on the menu were unavailable, and we were not advised, one of these was on the Daily special Menu & we were there at 6.15pm. the menu is quite limited so to not have some items is not good at the start of a bank holiday weekend.
we were there early so not busy at all, but it still took 10 mins to get our drinks.
The food overall was quite bland.
