The food was excellent. I had smoked salmon for starters, rib-eye steak for mains and Eton Mess for dessert. All delicious, and my steak (medium) and my son's steak (rare) were both cooked to perfection. The real ale, of which there was a decent selection (good to see something other than Woodforde's Wherry and Adnams Ghost Ship in a North Norfolk pub),was we!l kept and served at the right temperature.
The service was very good too, friendly and attentive without being overbearing and obtrusive.
All in all, a lovely Sunday lunch. We will be back.....very soon!
Having waited so long for an evening out with my partner we were very disappointed with the food , my partners chicken supreme was cold, the plate was cold and the portion was child size! One measly piece of broccoli and some potato balls, nothing supreme about it! We didn’t feel comfortable entering the pub to complain and at no point did any staff ask how the meal was. We were thankful we had a starter! Not value for money, we will be hesitant about returning, unfortunately as we are local .
Very tasty vegetarian salad of aubergines, couscous, lettuce etc. Good service.A pity that although we had booked inside we couldn’t sit outside but it looks like a popular pub.Yummy puds!
Everything worked well especially the food and drink. The service was a bit slow but to be expected on a Friday in July. Seats outside in front garden lack a bit of ambience as the area is surrounded by Laurel bushes and very noisy with cars coming and going on the gravel surface
This is our second visit, love this place, great setting, food & service. Not to be missed.
Great customer service, great food and family friendly
Lovely garden, great friendly staff and food was good, a pleasant way to spend a late afternoon
Nice atmosphere, food very good with good choice. Staff friendly.
Good food, good friendly service in pleasant surroundings.
Excellent food cooked to perfection, friendly staff and great service.
Progressive menu with a great range of classics and a good few vegan options… very friendly staff and reasonably priced…
After carefully searching for a place to eat whilst on holiday The Kings Head did not disappoint. A lovely setting, good atmosphere, a menu with a great selection of food that was cooked perfectly, and friendly staff. I would happily recommend and go back if I’m ever in this part of the world again.
Nice food but a little overpriced for what it was. Fantastic service and nice place overall
Lovely venue, good food choices. As with most places right now there is a need to be a little patient due to staff issues but we were happy to have an extended dinner so we enjoyed the meal.
Very slow service. After 90 minutes asked for an update on progress to be told the kitchen was busy and that our order had “only gone in an hour ago” (the inference being we were impatient).
The delay was stated to be caused by excess demand from the garden and bar orders. In my view this is poor management, as it allowed these walk in orders to overwhelm the kitchen and the serving staff, impacting those customers who had booked their tables well in advance. Given the delay I would have expected some communication to advise us of the likely delay when ordering.
Food when served was well presented and tasty, although portion size was a little small.
The simple menu hasn’t changed for at least three months so needs an update or least a specials menu that changes regularly.
Value is poor to moderate given the portion size which is verging on miserly.
Lovely garden and interior and the serving staff were friendly and polite despite the stress they were undergoing due to the poor capacity management.
With better customer communication, greater menu variation and improving the modest portion to price ratio this could be a much better pub, but as it stands it doesn’t do any better then you could easily do for yourself at home to a better standard.
It was a hot evening and we had booked an inside table but the staff were very obliging and found a table outside. Food was excellent.
Not enough staff on for an extremely busy day, challenging COVID times but very disappointing.
Fantastic fish and friendly service. Great surroundings too.
Lovely evening with friends
We had a lovely lunch at the Kings Head. Sat outside and enjoyed good choice and quality food .
Best compliment I can make is that I’m looking forward to my next visit, Excellent!
A charming place to spend my birthday evening with two girlfriends and my son. We all enjoyed our meals and I was particularly impressed by the beautifully-cooked Hake, served with equally delicious and unusual vegetables - extremely imaginative. For dessert, my son chose the Lemon Tart with Raspberry Sorbet, which looked exquisite. Being diabetic, I could not have dessert and the cheeseboard looked too generous so they kindly reduced it for me and presented the resulting board with Happy Birthday piped on it (incongruously piped in chocolate, but the thought was appreciated!). We sat for a long time and chatted and were not hurried. A memorable evening, thank you 😊
Really good quality food and friendly service. The fish and chips was amazing and the standard of food was good though the size of our piece of hake was on the small side it tasted great.
We were a party of 5 including a 14 month old. We booked for 4pm to suit the youngest member of our party.
We had a delightful meal in every way. The service was excellent and absolutely the right pace. Because of the timing only the Classics menu was available which was perfect for the occasion.
We arrived at the pub an hour early with a view to having a drink in the garden before the meal. The main garden area was closed ? there were a few tables outside the front of the pub which were all reserved. We had to drive back into Holt and have a drink at The Lawns in their lovely garden.
The meal was ok. I had the Baconless Bacon and cheeseburger. Did you run out of bacon that night?
Excellent venue, staff food and very Covid safe. Will definitely be having meals there again
The service was incredibly slow. We could see they were very short staffed but I’ve heard that the owners don’t treat the staff very well at all so I’m not surprised
The starter of goats cheese with pea purée was not nice at all. I think the food was too expensive for what it was.
£108 for 4 people for lunch and only three mains was far too much money for the food and service we had.
Won’t be going back and it’s a shame as we have been there lots of times previously but very disappointed this time and made my daughter upset on her birthday
Other tables were far too loud and the whole experience was a ruined birthday lunch for my daughter
Lovely evening made even better by the fantastic service. Food great although more pepper corn sauce please. The squid was the best!
Dined here before and the food had been ok. Unfortunately this time the food was below par. Stay clear of the vegan steak and mac'n'chese. The bean burger was ok but the chips were like oven chips. Disappointed with desert too, you don't expect frozen strawberries in your Eton mess on strawberry season but ambience and staff ok.
Good food, dog friendly, great service
Great country pub. Friendly service with a wide menu including vegan. Well worth a visit.
We had an enjoyable couple of hours, enjoying some lovely food.
We chose to sit outside however we have been before and know the dining experience inside is just as good and the room inviting
Friendly staff help the mood
Enjoyable first class food and service in an excellent setting
Well done Kings Head!
Staff were very friendly. Lovely setting and a great kids menu for our three to choose from.
Lovely country pub with excellent outside dining options. Really big garden with tables well spaced and a marquee tent over part of the space to protect from rain. They have a great kids climbing frame which kept my two little ones entertained while waiting for food.
Came here with my children and in laws and had a fantastic meal. Best roast pork I’ve ever had, and the children devoured their meals!
Great experience, we treated a friend to lunch , Burger , beer battered Cod and Hake , all fantastic as was the ice cream and a great bottle of white for the girls .
Highly recommended but it’s not cheap
Lovely venue, furniture comfortable, well spaced out for Covid and well signed for appropriate movement through building. Lots of nicely covered outdoor space too. All the staff, from being greeted, seated and served were excellent; friendly, welcoming and efficient. The food was a huge disappointment. The menu was exciting and different and we were all looking forward to sampling it. The salt and pepper squid, was plain squid fried in breadcrumbs, the Chicken Supreme was not a Supreme but a plain Chicken breast which some might say is nit picking but is not what was described, the chargrilled chicken in the burger was so dry it was inedible (they offered a free desert which was kind but was in fact put on the bill, and paid for accidentally) and the 'blue cheese slaw' was less than a teaspoon in size, the cheeseburgers again had a teaspoon of slaw and no sign of the haystack onions. The food is also expensive even by Norfolk coast standards; £17.50 for the chicken breast. All in all, more than disappointing. I totally agree that the plates were pretty as a picture but I felt it was a case of style over substance.
I had steak medium rare, all the food was piping hot and very tasty.
Had delicious fish and chips here
Friendly welcoming staff
Good value fish and fizz offer
