The Knife & Cleaver
Fri, Sat 19:30–00:00
Had a delicious lunch - lovely home cooked food and the staff were super friendly.
Was a hen party on so bit noisy but ok
Lovely food nice waitress nice catch up with my friend !
Friendly but informal waiting service, good choice on menu, really enjoyed halloumi salad. Dessert disappointing - sticky toffee pudding very dry. Quite quiet mid week, made atmosphere a little lacklustre but not the fault of the staff.
Met up for a catch up with friends. Starters were excellent for all 4 of us.
Mains were disappointing for 2 of us. The braised lamb was a little fatty and roast potatoes were not the best. We'll blame the supplier on that one. The beef and pork roasrd were both excellent. Desserts were delicious.
Management handled our disappointment very well and we will be back.
Lovely service and great food - look forward to coming back
We felt that the food was not worth the money. It is a very expensive average night out in our opinion.
This is the second time we have visited and was very impressed with not only the presentation of the food but the quality in the eating which matched to a high level.
I had Grouse which to be fair you don't find very often especially in Bedfordshire and was very impressed with the creativity and how the entire bird was used within the dish.
Good selection of ales and the staff were extremely welcoming and very accommodating
We had a nice time. Dined early evening at the end of a very hot bank holiday Monday, so not many others around and the staff were enjoying themselves in the background, playing their own music and chatting to their mates/locals coming in and out of the garden. The relaxed atmosphere and service (which can be a good thing) does not equate to the hiked up prices being charged for 'posh' pub grub. Gin list is good but the Botanist we chose should have been served with thyme/mint and lemon (as indicated in the menu), and not juniper berries; wine list was good and ok value. Had one dessert taken off bill which is when Birthday was acknowledged, which was a kind gesture.
Went for breakfast - a gppd varity of menu choices (more savoury than sweet). Weather was nice and there was good outdoor seating. Food presentation was spot on.
We went for Sunday lunch, both if us had the three meat roast which was really lovely. For dessert I had the special Berry and pear Eton Mess this was a twist on the original with less mess and more al-a-carte, fabulous. Hubby had rhubarb and custard profiter rolls, another twist which he thoughly enjoyed.
Our second fabulous meal at TK&C. The staff's enthusiasm is second to none. As is the presentation of the food. Taste of the food was perfect, the amount was amazing. If I have one criticism it would be the steak wasn't rare enough for me. Although its was perfection for my wife.
Food was perfect, service slow and wine expensive but overall very enjoyable
cold no atmosphere, not told of any specials - expensive for what it was
Was excited to try, very disappointed with the portion size compared to similar styles restaurants, very expensive what we had, my partner actually had Togo to McDonald's after to feel full up. Wouldn't recommend
This restaurant has changed massively. It used to to be great for a meal out but not so much now. There was no mention of a ridiculously loud band when I booked the table and it was more like a village pub than a restaurant. The waiting staff walked off as we approached the waiting area to be seated and they were all teenagers. Nothing against the youth of today but when they act like they'd rather be on their phones hen I have a problem.
Our starter was really poor. Freshly microwaved "artisan" bread. The Squid was incredibly salty. So much so that it made our lips burn.
The main course we're far worse though. Anemic chips that looked like they had come from a freezer bag and the steak was appalling. After eating a third of it I had to stop as my jaw was aching. It had good flavour but that was all.
I feel really disappointed as it was for my partners birthday. At no point did they come and ask if everything was ok with our meal and not once did I see anyone that looked as though they were in a senior position.
If you want a few beers with the lads then this place would be ok but for a meal that doesn't include chicken nuggets it's a poor option. And not cheap either so no excuse. They don't have a chef here, they have a ping technician.
Was quiet when we went but it was perfect for a lunch catch up with my mother in law. Lovely restaurant decorated beautifully. Staff are friendly and attentive.
Only one criticism I Would of liked a few more mains to choose from more fish or lamb dishes as I don't like pizza hotdogs or burgers.
But other than that the filet steak was cooked to perfection.
Well worth the visit
Will be visiting again soon.
We were the only people in the restaurant so very little atmosphere.
Visited with friends, nice place; Gastro-pub with smart interior, decent wine selection, a few cocktails too but expensive- between £7-£9 for one. Food was good and staff were friendly. Lunch menu looked good too would return to try that.
We found the place a lovely and quiet place and in lovely surroundings. The food was tasty and plenty of it. Highly recommended.
Each of the 4 of us had steaks 2 ribeye and 2 fillets. They were cook to perfection and very tasty. This followed a very good choice of starters which we all enjoyed.
Best Sunday roast I've had in a long time. Great service and atmosphere
We haven't been here for a number of years and were pleasantly surprised. The staff are very friendly and the menu is excellent both for vegetarians and coeliacs. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and will definitely return especially when they told us we can bring our dog into the garden or the bar.
Beautiful food. Could not fault it. Cannot wait to go back.
My friend and I visited last Thursday evening. We had amazing food, beautiful wine and brilliant staff waiting on us! All the ingredients for a thoroughly enjoyable evening! 😄
Food could be more varied but what we had was good. Terribly noisy couldn't hear ourselves speak. Staff ver friendly and obliging
Lovely place with a good atmosphere. Staff were friendly, efficient and attentive. Food was good but not quite the best I've had. Relaxing lighting was good especially as I have an eye problem. Would go there again.
This is a lovely pub restaurant we had high expectations as it has a good reputation it's Nicely decorated with pleasant ambience . We went on a Sat evening and they had launched a new menu . Unfortunately even at 8pm my husband couldn't have his first or second choice ( Monk fish or Cod ) which considering this has a reputation as a fish restaurant he had to settle for a steak which was OK . The veggie picnic shared starter was delicious and I had the fish stew which was nice . The service was excellent and overall we had a good evening but some better organisation and attention to detail could make this a great restaurant .
My wife received extremely undercooked pork. When sent back it was re-cooked and returned but was still undercooked. She was offered the chance to have a different main course but everyone was ready for their deserts by then so she ended up not having a meal.
Ventured here for a date with the hubby. Food was lovely. After an amazing main ( very creative take on gnocci). Was slightly disappointed with the apple tart for dessert (not tort enough for me) but overall a very delightful meal. The decor here is fantastic and modern. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Lovely staff and food, perfect for celebrating our Anniversary! X
Fantastic service, excellent food - well prepared and served beautifully, a really enjoyable experience. Many thanks
We enjoyed our Mother's Day meal in pleasant surroundings our only criticism was the roast potatoes were very dry even extra gravy didn't help every thing else was fine
Food was outstanding ambient surroundings
Service was a little slow and they forgot our order and then came back to to ask if they had the order right?
It feels like these are just teething problems and it was a busy Saturday night
The food when it arrived was more than worth the wait and looked as good as it tasted
Fantastic place to stay and eat. Staff are superb. One of the very best pub hotels i have ever stayed in.
Furniture uncomfortable...food not value for money
We really enjoyed our meal, the restaurant is beautiful. We were a little let down with how fast our food came out between courses. We had booked a 6 course meal for Valentines day. As soon as we had finished one course the next was out. We had finished our entire meal by 7:30, we sat down just before 6:30.
We were pretty disappointed as would have liked to have had a break between courses.
Lovely food and friendly staff just wish we were dining for longer.
The pub is very nice ..The staff work really hard, some of the food could be better I.e fresh chips not frozen .bit experience. I would consider going back..
First time there, good food, excellent service, will go back to try more of the menu
Great service, good food, ambience was cosy, modern, generally a great atmosphere.
Food - very good.
We had a very enjoyable evening.
A few more choices on the menu and we would go there more often.
The food was extremely disappointing, and the service wasn't great. Both of which were a really shame as this place had been recommended and the occasion was for a birthday.
