The Lamb and Trotter

A good venue for a lunchtime catch up - lunch special offer is very good value and the food was very good too.
Nice chips, mushroom and tomato but a rather tasteless steak. Under-seasoned cauliflower cheese and oily 'seasonal vegetables' (poss a lettuce?) Good service and the pudding (syrup sponge) was excellent. Very empty down in the restaurant though and feels too much like a Harvester from the decor. Had hoped for better but it just isn't quite at that level where I would recommend it. £100 for 2 people, two courses and no booze is way too much for what they are serving up.
The restaurant was quiet during our visit but the food was enjoyed by all and staff were attentive. Our party included guests from America who were impressed by the British food and beers on offer.
Delicious food and great service. Will definitely go back.
Excellent gastro pub which would suit any occasion, whether a business lunch or catching up with friends. Decent selection of food and the wine list was reasonably priced too. Recommend the chicken and ham pie - great quality and high on the meat content! Has been very well decked out by the new owners with the more formal dining area on the lower ground, with the usual pub for socialising upstairs. Definitely worth a visit.
Great food and service, just needs more customers to improve atmosphere
My friend ordered fish and chips, and he went back a week after and said it was still as tasty so consistency is there. The place was quite new, and seemingly so are the staff. Worth a try.
My guest and I enjoyed fabulous food in this newly opened gastro pub in The City. We already have plans to return.
Comfortable seating areas (all new refurb) and bar areas/ restaurant. Lacking in atmosphere on a Wednesday lunchtime but have passed later in the week and it is more lively in the late afternoon/ early evening. Food was well presented and I thoroughly enjoyed the grilled liver and bacon.
A nice place, but service was a little erratic although very pleasant. The prices seemed to be about 20-30% above what I think would be reasonable value for the quality of the food.
Booked at short notice on a Friday - no problem getting a table. Good food, good service, limited choice of ales in the restaurant bar although well kept.
We were advised that the venue had only been opened since October. It was very busy with at least 3 office parties. The restaurant area was rustically decorated and service from Dee was first class. We liked the ambience and our food was generously portioned. All in all a very enjoyable experience. I will probably bring a group here as it has a very friendly atmosphere
Went with a friend for a post-office bite to check out this recent neighbourhood addition next to my gym and loved the place. Shared the starter salad of Mulled-wine poached pear with blue cheese and caramelised walnuts - a refreshing and delicious taste combo. As mains we chose the Butternut squash pearl barley risotto with toasted chestnuts and sage - a winter-warmer reminiscent of cosy home-cooked meals but with enough finesse to fight its corner on a restaurant menu; and a mouth-watering Cornish off-the-bone plaice with samphire, brown shrimp butter and roasted lemon. Instead of sides we opted for 2 puddings: the Discovery apple and a moorish Boozy sherry trifle with raspberries. Service was prompt and friendly with excellent shift-handover (thank you Andrew and Sam!) and the atmosphere relaxed. Having arrived early, we shared the restaurant space downstairs with just a handful of diners but the buzzing bar areas upstairs and downstairs hinted at more traffic later. We will definitely be back!
Our first time and the food and service was great.
Have wanted to come here for a while and came for a weekday lunch with friends - pleasant welcome, good sounding menu with about 5 or 6 choices for each course, including a couple of veggie friendly options. The waitress was coping alone so there was a bit of a wait for ordering but she was friendly and happy to recommend a wine choice. Food was tasty and a good portion, enjoyed by all of us. Would be happy to return and try the upstairs bar too.
Good lunch. Gaining in popularity.
I discovered the Lamb and Trotter through a friend who had Birthday drinks and so when I needed to find a location for a Business lunch I decided to give it a try as close to my office. I am so glad I did the food was excellent and the service was relaxed but professional and attentive enough without being over the top. I would highly recommend either for a drink and small bite or a sit down lunch. We are going back soon as we have booked the venue for our team Christmas party and I am sure there will be many more visits in the future.
