The Last Wine Bar & Restaurant
The food is modern, honest and largely locally-sourced, and you can choose from bar, set and a la carte menus, all of which are regularly updated.
There are around 60 carefully-chosen wines available, with more than two-thirds offered by the glass or carafe. Alongside the classics are the unusual and the esoteric; you are encouraged to Drink Different.
As well as the food and wine, the longevity of the Last is down to its unrivalled, friendly, welcoming atmosphere. The relaxed ambience has inspired a loyal following across nearly three decades; Norwich without The Last is unthinkable.
My last visit to this restaurant ( which had been my favourite dining place since its opening) was appalling so i went this time at the invite of a friend. It was a wonderful experience and i will now continue to use on a regular basis. Food was delicious staff were brilliant and considered our dietary requirements. Very happy with price. We were on limited time pre concert and that was considered so we had time in hand.
Another excellent meal! Venison was beautifully cooked and imaginatively served. My companion had the steak which was perfectly cooked and we both finished with the cheesecake and coffee. A great night and good value
We had a delicious lunch for a friends 50th. Would highly recommend.
Perfect setting for a meal for 2! Food was lovely and service perfect. We will be back soon!
We have been going to the restaurant for many years and it just gets better and better and we love the makeover
Fillet Steaks on the small size, just disappointing. Menu in general not as good as it used to be, lack of choices.
I had never been before but my husband has been there years ago many times. He thought the quality of the food has gone down and my fillet steak was good, but nothing to write home about. The staff were friendly and attentive but we probably won't ever go back again.
Great meal and great setting. I would highly recommend it.
We were keen to try the new brasserie and were not disappointed. The food was great, wine advice worked and birthday bonus pudding was a unnecessary but consumed nonetheless. Thanks.
We’ve loved The Last since it opened more than 25 years ago and have always valued the presence of James and Ecky virtually every time we visited! If I’m honest, we’ve been unsure if visiting since the new owners took over as we didn’t like the idea of it becoming an all day ‘coffee and cake’ venue. Given that we needed to eat before going to The Norwich Playhouse, we thought it an ideal opportunity to try out the new style.
The initial view, on entering the bar was positive; very little had changed. The girl behind the bar seemed abrupt and took us immediately to our table (previously we would have been encouraged to have a drink at the bar, whilst perusing the menu); however once we were seated, we met the best waitress ever! I lovely girl from Teeside whose communication skills, interaction and personality made the night for us! She was stunning!
We chose just starters and main as we needed to be out in an hour and a half. The food was as good as before. Our main concern is the loss of the blackboard behind the bar with its eclectic selection of wines by the glass. The wine list offers very few by the glass and in fairness, this moves the venue from ‘wine bar’ to ‘Brasserie’. A true wine bar needs to offer a much greater selection by the glass and equally one-off parcels from various sources. The current list is too corporate!
The crab doughnut was divine! Also loved the Prince background music. Friendly staff who didn’t make us feel rushed. Will definitely go back
This was our first visit since the refurbishment . Happy to say it was much improved, and the standards of food and service remain fantastic.
Great place , food always good.
Staff are brilliant!
Quality of food was good
Service was friendly and attentive but the food was very slow in appearing
I am ambivalent about recommendation to friends
We liked the changes to the decor but retaining the original charm.
Loved our waiter - sorry, we know you’ve been there two weeks but didn’t ask your name
Some of the staff were well presented, others scruffy which may need addressing (in our opinion)
The food was lovely, the skate plate 5*, the celeriac a bit dull so 4*. A good array of fresh and seasonal produce was evident and appreciated.
Wine by the glass we found unimaginative and not particularly special, maybe this will develop in time.
Would we come again? Always have eaten here, hope to continue to do so.
Novel place in an old shoe factory. Very friendly welcome on arrival, spacious dining area with comfortable seating and natural light through large windows. Good choice of affordable wines, great varied menu. We each ordered game mains, both of which were excellent. Good service and no pressure to leave. Would return without hesitation.
Only for special occasions as quite pricey but the perfect place for a romantic anniversary meal, the food is enough to bring a tear to the eye
A disappointing first return to a former favourite! Menu limited to ala carte where neither of us found a meal we chose. Fortunately the “special “ was sea bass. We were served a small barely half a single fillet on a bed of kale which was a bit tough to chew.
We ordered a mixed greens side but only kale and possibly samphire arrived.
We both had halloumi starter which was okay.
No sweet ordered.
Seems only the first white and red listed available by the glass! That’s restricts choice.
We had a bottle of Carmonaire Red from Chile. Excellent
Total cost £74.00 for two.
Sadly unlikely to return.
Service behind the bar was lovely and friendly and the lady was really helpful and chatty. However, once we were seated at our table downstairs, the service seemed to disappear as we were to the only couple sitting in that area. We received our main courses but no one asked if everything was alright and as my meal was lukewarm and must have been standing for some time before it was brought out I needed it to be heated up and whilst I waited and waited for someone to come over no one did so I ended up eating as it was as I didn't want to walk around looking for someone while my husband was eating his meal . There was nothing wrong with it it just needed to be heated up to be enjoyed . Sorry, but we will not be rushing back.
Another really fabulous meal out with friends. The food was amazing as was the wine and service,
This was our first visit to Lasts following the relaunch and we were absolutely delighted with every detail of our experience. I was being treated to a birthday lunch - seated in the bar area in a table by the window. Without exception, the staff were knowledgeable, enthusiastic and warm. There were new dishes on the menu, and high proportion of locally sourced produce. Everything sounded so tempting that we decided to choose a selection of the small plates. From a squash dish served with blue cheese beignets, smoked mackerel with sour cream and beetroot, exquisite shin beef which had been prepared as little crisply crumbed rissoles, we were utterly spoiled for choice and found impossible to select a favourite. The wine list was carefully chosen and we selected an English wine which was perfect. All in all, highly recommended. We will certainly be back !
Still early days since reopening
So lovely to see one of our favourite restaurants busy and vibrant again. The staff where very welcoming, the food was gorgeous and we had a wonderful time. Cant wait to go again
I have dined here before and enjoyed the ambience of the bar area and of course the food.
However, on this occasion I booked online and on arrival we were lead to the brightly lit area which I found more of a day time café style. Other diners tables were very close and one particular party were very noisily shrieking with laughter. I don't mind anyone enjoying themselves but this was rather excessive and most distracting. It was worse I think as there was no flooring so the level echoed around the room.
I'm sure this was a one off with regard to the noise and it's a matter of luck as it were as to who is sharing the same space. I asked if there was any room in the bar and even one of the young ladies serving us felt the online system caused them problems and advised us to ring the restaurant in person in future and request the bar. With today's technology it seems strange to suggest going back to previous methods!
Whilst not the largest choice the food we all chose was very tasty.
Fabulous night, food delicious and service unintrusive. Would highly recommend.
Perfect place for a date night! Tasty and beautifully presented food. Great service and value. Relaxing atmosphere. Can't wait to go back!
Another great meal at The Last with friends. We like to dine in the bar, but may try the new Brasserie if we have a larger party.
Great friendly service. Food was amazing. Would definitely recommend.
Such a lovely evening to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The food was unbelievably good. I had wanted to try The Last for years - I'm so glad I finally got round to it. We will definitely be coming back again.
Really delicious food and very friendly professional staff. A wonderful evening! Hope to return soon. Great for vegans :) fab local wine. Soo good!
Good food the only problem was the waiters knowledge of the drinks .I requested a choice of beers available and was not informed you had bottled beer and was only served a dreadful local brew which prompted an early exit
It was great to see that the last wine bar brasserie was busy and vibrant. Staff were helpful, friendly and great service.
Great ambience and service. Steak cooked to perfection. Both main courses beautifully presented. Homemade crackers with cheese delightful. Staff very welcoming. Would highly recommend a visit.
Disappointing, and you will need to do much better to tempt us back!!!
Had a lovely pre-theatre meal, great service from our friendly waiter. We will be returning very soon!
I said no to recommendation, this is due to the fact that my main course was cold, actually when the dish was returned it was only a little better.
Our server Lee was fantastic, great all round personality.
We had a lovely evening. The table servers were attentive and very cheerful. The food was fresh and delicious. We will definitely be returning.
We really enjoyed our first visit, food was amazing and customer service was excellent. Will definitely return
It made a very good night out for the 6 of us. Good ambience, excellent service, and food items generally good to very good.
