Great service
Most importantly fabulous food!!!!
The Christmas day 5 course menu was well thought out with a good choice for starters, mains and deserts. Quantity of food just right, beautifully cooked and nice flavours. Served on hot plates. Service was excellent, the staff worked very hard. Would recommend.
We both really enjoyed our meals and we ate early as we were going to the Journey of Light at Thursford. Consequently it was quiet in the dining area. We have been before and know what The Lawns is normally like. I particularly enjoyed my gravy which came with the Guinness and Ale pie.
Nice Hotel and good food. Very relaxed atmosphere. Nice place to be.
The roast beef we had was tough, chewy and poor value. This was particularly disappointing as we invited an elderly relative for their first outing since lockdown and he couldn’t eat it.
enjoyed our stay all very good with correct social distancing
Food was actually quite good. But the meal was spoilt by a rather grumpy and surly waiter. Mono syllabic and totally disinterested in guests. He spoilt an otherwise acceptable meal.
A small restaurant where residents and visitors are equally welcome. Socially distanced tables are located in a georgian room. The food is outstanding, as is the presentation. The only small comment I have is that the specials did not change from day to day and being on a bed, breakfast and dinner tariff, it would have been nice to see a little more daily choice. However, the two menus, both A La Carte and Bar, do offer a very good range of dishes.
Breakfast was a particular delight for the number of cooked dishes that offered fish. Again, the presentation and quality was superb.
Food was very nice, however the Chicken & Mushroom pie was not a pie but a ceramic dish with a crust. The pie didn't have a very nice consistency as it was more like a soup, however it did taste very good. This was a new menu which had a very limited selection but never the less would be able to find something. Waitress was excellent.
Excellent value, friendly service, well organised with COVID safety, lovely lunch with friends
Limited menu, Covid reasons? But the meals we chose were very nice and the wife says “the sticky toffee pudding is the best she’s had”.
I've never ate at the Lawns Hotel before, I found the food to be outstanding though. I will definitely be back some time soon. I thoroughly recommend the mussels as a starter and the sirloin of beef as a main.
We had a beautifully prepared lunch from a very creative and extensive menu. The service was very attentive.
Delicious 3 course roast dinner with live music. Very friendly, covid aware staff. Highly recommended
Covid secure without being anal. Food first class and excellent value. Would recommend it to anyone.
Everything was fine, service, food, staff were excellent as always
Simple to book. Fantastic service and lovely setting. Excellent food and great menu . Sensible pricing.
The Lawns always delivers.
Very dissatisfied. Food was bad quality and atmosphere depressing. Looks much nicer in photos!
No welcome, actually quite frosty.
Food adequate. No ambiance in the restaurant
Great place. Very friendly. We had a dog with us which they welcomed with open arms. We waited a few minutes to get seated but they were quite busy. Food was very good. Would go again!
Very pleased with our whole visit.
I had booked online so there was a confusion about time and booking, the staff were very understanding and kindly accommodated our group.
The food and service were faultless , many thanks :)
It was a great dinner, food quality was excellent. Service slow but good overall.
The great chef was let down by the poor ambience and weird vibe you get from this restaurant. My partner and I wanted a nice meal together but the trashy r&b let down the mood and the bright lights and lack of decoration don’t make it very welcoming
Very good choice and excellent food. Staff very friendly and helpful
Great experience. Enjoyed our stay wand would definitely recommend it
Roast was good. Service slow. Desserts too expensive. Would recommend but with reservations
Excellent Sunday Lunch. Could not fault it. Maybe not the cheapest Sunday Lunch in Holt, but probably the best.
The website looked good and so did the menu. However the experience was quite different. Very friendly and helpful staff. However when the Steak and ale pie arrived
it looked great, but was 90% pastry so finding any little cubes of steak became a mission. It was very disappointing. It was also very dry so for £14.50 was not good value. My partner's fillet of fish was tiny and tasteless but was made to look like a gourmet dish which it wasn't. Throughout the time in the pub/restaurant there were drunk and rowdy young men shouting obscenities at the tope of their voices. They were not asked to leave. When we came to pay the waitress said " sorry about all the noise". The only thing about the meal that was acceptable was the humous starter with Pitta bread. We did not wait to order a sweet . Never again.
It’s a surprise this one as not sure how to review to be honest. We walked in and thought oh dear not great...place seemed dated and unclean with smell of dogs. Place has great potential though I’m sure. Service wasn’t all that great as young girl seemed inexperienced and a little blunt and we were ignored initially without eye contact. When we walked unto the restaurant it was very basic with empty sticky tables and did start to feel as though I had made a giant mistake. When the food came however we were both shocked to say the least...presented very well and cooked really well. My vegetables were undercooked but still I was happy. Chef here deserves award as food was of high standard and didn’t match the service or surroundings in my opinion. Sadly I regret to say that I wouldn’t return for this reason.
Food really good - vegetables clearly cooked fresh so be prepared to wait while this is done. Quality of both meat and fish is excellent and cooked expertly
all clutter removed for ease of cleaning during Covid, so looks a bit pared back. staff polite and efficient
Excellent food and service. Managed to get a steak even though the Friday steak night was not available
The menu was less interesting than on previous visits. The main area of concern was the total lack of social distancing in the bar area. All parties mixed together, it really was a free for all. Others bars we have visited have had excellent procedures in place to cope with Covid 19 and making customers feel safe. The Lawns needs to do the same.
A lovely safe feeling as you enter. the food was very good and promptly served at our table. The staff were welcoming and stopped for a brief chat.
It was a nice meal with an acceptable choice of food and wine and its was a nice touch for the chef to see us after we had finished our meal all in all good value
We would go back, only thing, food very good but not a huge choice.
Very sparse dining room with no atmosphere, extremely slow service
Although we enjoyed the food, the whole experience was extremely disappointing. We arrived in the bar area and were ignored for over 5 minutes while the man behind the bar occupied himself with moving glasses around and looking at his phone. The waitress passed us several times without acknowledging our presence. We had to call the man's attention to the fact that we had made a reservation and he just waved us to sit anywhere. The waitress was "busy" chatting to one table of people in the garden - they were obviously known to her!
The time taken to give us menus, take our order and food to be produced was too long, but we enjoyed it once it arrived. We had to point out that one of our glasses had some dried on food stuck to it - the drink was replaced. We later ordered coffee but, after waiting for 15 minutes and it not appearing, we had to re-order it.
Although The Lawns advertise their adherence to Covid-19 safety rules and did have one-way entrance/exit arrows, some people were actively told to disregard them by the barman. There was no attempt to take anyone's contact details for Track & Trace purposes.
We are local people who had planned to make The Lawns one of our regular haunts, but, after this experience, that will not happen.
Fabulous meal. Nothing was too much trouble for the chef who made us a special Thai dish as the menu choice had ran out. Thank you so much to the chef for a fab evening
Was hoping for more from the reviews and the drive we made to get there. Food ok. They did forget us. After 40 minutes I asked and they did admit that they had failed to process our order and gave us free drinks to compensate. Every member of the team did apologise and it was clear it was genuine. We were grateful for that but sadly it did take the edge off the evening for us. There was a lack of music and the lighting was rather harsh. It felt like we could too easily overhear conversations.
Strange music in the bar (not at al becoming of a restaurant). Food was OK but expensive if it had not been for Eat Out to Help Out. Could be so much nicer but is clearly a tourist restaurant rather than one where locals would even think of going.
