Outstanding service , very clean , warm and welcoming.
Excellent food. Wonderful service. Lovely surroundings
Loved the place, service and food however we were in the counter that dogs are allowed, luckily we were the only ones in so it was quiet, maybe too quiet
We will go again but make sure that we dine in the bar or standard dining room
Outstanding food and service as usual! This place is our go to for a fantastic meal in stunning surroundings
We booked very late for a table in the bar which was a little cramped - our fault as we should have booked earlier. We were very pleased to get a table at all! The service was excellent and the food was extremely good with a huge choice of gins on offer.
Nice atmosphere - we would certainly eat there again.
Excellent service. Excellent food. Sensible prices. Will come again.
This is our local and we eat out there about once a month. We love sitting outside by the river and we did this yesterday. I was boringly predictable and had the fish and chips. But, as usual, it was perfectly cooked. We haven’t had a bad meal here.
The staff are always friendly and attentive and the service prompt.
The staff were friendly, but we waited more than three quarters of an hour for our Sunday lunch, which was somewhat dry and not very tasty. I had to eventually ask where our food was, and got the impression we had been forgotten. Very disappointing as we have enjoyed eating there in the past.
One of the best Sunday roasts I've had! Highly recommend
This is our regular “special place” to eat. We have been dining here for several years now and never had a bad word to say about it. However, yesterday we felt a bit let down by the poor service. The food was as brilliant as ever! Unfortunately the service was extremely slow, no one came to check that all was ok as they usually do. I had to go and find someone to order dessert as no one came to us. After a 20 minute wait and still no dessert we decided to leave.
I think we need to put this down to “just a bad day at the Office” it will not put us off coming again as we really like the food and surroundings. Just hope that we get better service next time. 🤞🏻
Since its refurbishment The Lion has been among the first choice venues for good eating. It is accepted that Covid 19 has restricted some services and Brexit has resulted in a shortage of trained staff.
The menu of our Sunday Lunch was of a high standard but the use of the restaurant as an access to to the staff serving in the garden and garden customers leaving via the main building did nothing to assist a relaxed and comfortable ambience.
The staff were cheerful and helpful but lacked the standard of service they should have had.
Hopefully, better training and recruiting will eventually return the Lion to it's former standard.
We booked early 5.30pm and were seated in the upstairs dining room, whilst a lovely room, with only us it there was no atmosphere and we would have preferred to have been downstairs. We booked on line and clicked on 'standard', I will ring directly next time. The menu is still limited and we yearn for the variety of the offerings of old with a specials board, fingers crossed it makes a return soon. Husband chose prawn cocktail followed by a rump steak requested medium, which was delivered cooked perfectly and hardly needed the steak knife. I opted for the asparagus, mozzarella and poached egg, presented beautifully with a perfect poached egg. Main course was fish and chips, homemade mushy peas and tartar sauce, peas were amazing. I asked for an additional tartar sauce which was no problem and ate both, the fish was huge! All the dishes were generous portion sizes meaning on this occasion there was no room for dessert. We took our drinks outside by the river after our meal. The service as always was wonderful from Nathan and Micky, we were also waited on by another lady, who was new to us (apologies don't know her name) who was equally as engaged and professional. We'll wait for the menu to change before visiting again.
Our table obviously needed wiping but the waitress visited the table a couple of times, including putting the menus down in water on the table, without noticing this. We had to ask for the table to be wiped. There were 3 of us eating. One of us ordered fish and chips and that was a good portion and nicely cooked. One had nicoise salad but the tuna was overcooked, there were not many salad leaves and the potatoes did not taste fresh. The third meal was a starter of crayfish tails and prawns which was ok but the prawns were very small, shrimps really, and the toast was partially burnt.
We were celebrating a special occasion but our table was in the main bar and the table had that sticky feeling. The staff were really pleasant and the food was nice but let down by the overall experience of a poor seating area.
Excellent service and food very good apart from the Tuna. Requested pink came well done. A pity because in every other way excellent
Wonderful service. No delay, just a long enough wait so you don’t feel hassled.
For service, ask for Sophie, she’s a gem.
A charming pub in a beautiful location, with some hits and some misses on the food front.
- A-maz-ing burgers - perfectly cooked squidgy beef, delicious bacon, yummy coleslaw, crisp fries.
- Fantastic chocolate+coffee cheesecake.
- Great beer, cider and wine list.
- Utterly picturesque location (we were blessed with a hot sunny evening next to the river)
- Charming, friendly, efficient staff
- Lacklustre tuna fillet - a bit grey and meh
- Overly soft and watery broccoli
Great ambience to the Red Lion being right by the river. Sat outside, unfortunately near the road which was pretty noisy. Anyone that wants a quieter table ask to be away from the road nearer to the river !! Service was superb and all the staff were very friendly and attentive without being in your face. Food was excellent. So it made a lovely meal out after this long, long covid misery. Recommend to anyone.
We were lucky that the weather was fabulous and we sat on a bench overlooking the river and fields. The Sunday lunch was excellent, all meats were tasty and tender.
I would have loved some mash with it as I’m not a vegetable lover, but that’s just me.
The service was faultless and we will DEFINITELY be returning on a regular basis !
We ha e used the Lion for years. Still the same quality food and service.
Delightful to sit outside by the river enjoying very good food with pleasant service. Highly recommended.
Good food, good service, sat outside with a stunning view of the sunset over the river
The service was good, the setting by the river superb. Our lunch was nice , we chose hake and chips. The hake was very good , the pea mash was too sweet , home made tartar was not creamy enough for my taste. Otherwise very good
Excellent lunch and service by smiley girls will certainly return and recommend
Best fish and chips and the Tuna salad was excellent
Had a lovely evening meal with my partner on a Friday. Food was excellent and plenty of it. The service was very good; friendly, considerate and not obtrusive.
Will definitely go back again.
Great service with exceptional timing for food delivery.
The staff were very professional and courteous.
Food was excellent with superb quality presented perfectly.
A great venue, highly recommended.
Thank you a wonderful evening.
We were put in the side bar which suited us as it was quiet and homely. Unfortunately it also ment that we were forgotten about.
As one of the party opted for the burger we asked when ordering for some ketchup and were told it would come with the meal, we had to go and ask twice more before it arrived by then chips where cold. The other two mains and starters were good, soup, pate, lamb and salmon but potatoes on both had a strange taste, when mentioned the servers apologised for forgetting us but they were busy in the restaurant and that's just the way the potatoes are.
Good quality nicely prepared food but nothing special. Generous portions. Fast service.
Fabulous food. Very helpful staff. Really enjoyed our meal.
A delicious meal served by friendly professional staff. We had the fish dish and slow cooked lamb shoulder. We are very keen to return to The Lion for another outstanding dinner.
Nice food and excellent service. There was so much halloumi on the burger, i think that could be halved and still delicious. I didn’t have room for pudding but definitely want to go back for the coffee cheesecake. My partner had lamb and it looked lovely.
I would strongly suggest that any travelers wishing to dine at The Lion at Leintwardine, would be well advised to book a table well in advance, so as to avoid disappointment. As the is the only eatery in the village, though very well worth booking, and you won't be disappointed at the menu. Very delicious food.
Very picturesque setting
Good selection of food.
However our experience was some what spoilt by not having a table that we reserved and no table at all outside so we had to wait until make shift table was available. Then waiting 20 minutes for drinks. The main course was lovely shame the strawberries were spoilt by being over fermented.
Service, food, staff and location were faultless as always
Good very tasty must have a good chef just could do with more options to choose from
Good menu, good service and lovely location. We always enjoy our visits to The Lion. It is reliably good.
Normally the food is good, however on my visit we had Hake which is also normally good, this time it had a strong fishy smell which suggests that it was not that fresh ,fresh fish does nor smell.
We will go again as I hope this was a one off.
We were seated quickly and served well. I would go back if I was in the area.
Excellent service, a cosy room, a little noisy being on the road. But the location and the lovely old inn makes up for that. Food ok, best sticking with good old pub grub. Just to repeat the staff are outstanding and so friendly.
