Really great service, went with 2 children and it was very enjoyable. The food was excellent also.
fabulous food and service. will definitely return to eat there again.
Hotel looked beautiful, with amazing Christmas decor. Went for Afternoon Tea. The setting and food were very nice. However, the experience was let down by the service. It was very hard to get the attention of serving staff once the initial order had been taken (e.g. for drinks, water, tea/coffee). No milk brought to the table - eventually had to walk around looking for someone to get some. Had to ask a few times for the same thing, as first requests weren't actioned (took 20 mins to get a glass of water). Setting is beautiful, so hopefully this was just an off-day ... :-(
Very disappointing experience going for Afternoon tea at the lobby lounge. The staff were very kind, but all over the place. We were moved table twice. Three different people asked us the same questions about drinks and offering to go through the menu. When the afternoon tea was brought out, one person told us that there was a second tray to come so we waited a few minutes before enquiring about the other one. Another member of staff came over and told us that there were no other elements, just what we had.
It was presented beautifully, and the sandwiches & scones were lovely. However, the butter for the scones (piped into little rosettes) was rancid. We mentioned this to a staff member, who brought us out one from the fridge. It must have been from the same batch as it was also sour.
The desserts were not good. They were presented well, but were congealed and stodgy. The flavours didn’t match the description. I’m a big fan of Afternoon tea and have never had such a poor experience. It was meant to be a Christmas treat and we left feeling very deflated. We paid €90 for the experience which was embarrassing & we gave our feedback to the m’aitre d as we left.
On arrival we were placed in the overflow bar- We requested a table in the main lobby area but know available although we had booked several weeks in advance - Only people in bar area eating - In truth i could have done this at home
Mix up on main courses and when our meals finally arrived they were cold
Saving grace was the bar staff were excellent
Excellent service lovely warm greeting and we had a wonderful afternoon with excellent food and atmosphere .no sense of being rushed The silver cutlery ; linen napkins and beautiful tableware create a lovely sense of occasion.
Top class Afternoon Tea in the lobby lounge of the beautiful Intercontinental Hotel. We had a lovely festive experience in the capable hands of Nicky and his team. Christmas decorations are amazing!
Nothing like other intercontinental restaurants around the world. Best thing about it was the pianist:) No attention to my husband's birthday. The service was slow and inattentive. We had to struggle for finding them all the time. The food wasn't good - dry steak, came with old potato and I spitted it out. When reported nothing was done and nobody came to talk to us. Expensive restaurant so we expect some normal food quality. Ordered double expresso's in the end of the meal and got a small drop of coffee in a big cup. Lower your expectations. I have a reservation to Seasons restaurant in the same hotel but I will cancel it now Hotel staff and doorman was lovely. Comfortable parking. Lovely Christmas décor.
Was expecting a lot more from a 5 Star establishment. Quality levels are not up to par with European standards. We were given a sad table by the entrance with no view (even though the restaurant was basically empty) and right on the air conditioning flow. The menu is quite sad as well, featuring burgers and fries as if it were a run of the mill McDonalds. Very underwhelming overall.
Always enjoy the food, service, ambience and wine choices. Would highly recommend for a relaxing afternoon or evening with family or friends.
An oasis of peace and luxury. I'm usually guest of the Intercontinental hotel during my work travels and the Reading Room is really a place where I restore from the efforts of the job to have a light mean, to read, to study, to think. I appreciate the fact there are tableware of tables, the porcelains and the silver cutlery are magnificent. I love to have the high tea here. Everything is excellent, but I praise the champagne rose at the perfect temperature, the Lapsang Souchong tea is one of the best I tasted, the scones with the raspberry jam - once more - among the best I experienced.
A lovely evening ,,great food, service, it needs candles and flowers, especially candles when the evening comes for ambiance.
Perfect place for lunch, especially for the older generation
Yes lovely afternoon tea and the service from all the staff was top quality. They couldn't do enough for us. The ambience wasn't really there. I don't know was it because it wasn't that busy in the room we were in or the lay out. But we can't complain because the food and staff were amazing. Thanks for having us.
I was very disappointed. The server did not tell me I could order from a menu. She just pointed to the buffet when I enquired. I had to ask several times for coffee which was cold and very weak. Nobody asked was everything ok and it took a long time to get the bill. I was on my way out the door having paid the bill when another server ran after me asking very loudly me to pay.
Nothing special. Crowded, kids running around.
The service in the Reading Room this evening was very poor. We had to walk into the lounge several times to look for a waiter or waitress to order drinks and food.
I was told there would be a set menu available when I enquired with the hotel before I made the reservation, but we were not offered one on arrival. I asked to speak to someone in charge (very discreetly) and they eventually offered us the set Festive menu, but in a way that made us feel like we were a major inconvenience. To me, this is totally unacceptable.
Finally, having spent more than €400 on dinner, we asked if they would validate our parking ticket and were told no. It’s not the money, more so the principle of it and on the back of a poor customer experience it was the final straw.
Beautiful decor, beautiful ambience, so much potential but completely let down by staff and management.
Very enjoyable, lovely atmosphere, I have gone for afternoon tea every year for the past 20 years, it would be up there with the best, the only thing I would say is the pastries were quite sweet
Absolutely loved the afternoon tea experience. The staff were phenomenal and the food was excellent. We had such a relaxing and enjoyable afternoon. Would definitely return.
Was absolutely lovely , it was my graduation and they gave me a complementary chocolate plate
Fabulous service, beautifully executed food. We had a ball!
My wife and I had afternoon tea for our anniversary recently. They went above and beyond in accommodating a couple of requests for alterations to the set menu. The service was friendly, genuine and first rate.
The food was excellent, as was the champagne. Overall, very impressive and we’ll definitely be back. I want to park myself at the whiskey bar afterwards, too.
Food was very good.
Service was very slow. We had at least three different servers during our time there.
The bill had to be sent back twice as it was incorrect
Overall good good, but service poor.
Lovely tea in very comfortable surroundings. The staff were very attentive and pleasant, I would definitely go again.
Poor from start to finish. No restaurant feel about this - we were put at a table (eventually) between parties having afternoon tea and drinks. Were asked three times how many people were we expecting. Food was very average. Incredibly noisy and rushed. Very over-priced. Unfortunately, we won't be returning...
Food was very good. Service would have been more attentive. We were rushed for a pre-theatre event but the wait staff didn't get the message.
One of the best overall dining experiences. Food was superb, service was impeccable. Every dish we had was well prepared, perfectly seasoned and beautifully presented. Many thaks to the wait staff for providing us a truly memorable evening. Our expectations were very high, our Reading Room experience far exceeded them. Very highest recommendation.
Food was nice, nothing amazing. Pumpkin was too firm in risotto. Venison was the most shockingly overpriced dish I've seen since Celtic Tiger left the building! Bottom line, for the prices being charged there are far more better restaurants to choose from in the city.
Good food, excellent value. Nice ambiance, great place to meet!
Whilst the setting is excellent, we found the food to be very good, but not exceptional - and service was extremely slow - to the extent that we had to ask that one main course be brought out before the others, for someone who had to get to a meeting; and for all this, you pay handsomely (over €300 for four adults, and two kids). For those who are not worried about either money or time - it's delightful - but I don't think I'll be rushing back.
