My party of six friends all enjoyed our Sunday lunch. We had visited the restaurant the previous evening and were still quite full, but the friendly waitress said my friend and myself who wanted a roast dinner, could have a child size portion which was absolutely the right size for us. This restaurant is a good asset for the village and I am sure word will get out how good the restaurant is.

Lovely to return to the Lord Nelson after a few years away. The place has been extended and modernised however it still retains it’s good service and excellent food.

My party of four visited The Lord Nelson for a meal on a Saturday evening. I can report the meal was really excellent. The dining room is beautifully decorated. Pleasant music was playing in the background. The staff were very attentive and helpful. We each chose a different dish, fish and chips, steak, fishcakes, vegetarian burger and all were excellent. Desserts were delicious also, mine being a selection of sorbets, mango, ginger and cucumber, yes cucumber sorbet and it was delicious. We returned on the Sunday for Lunch and again was excellent. Thoroughly recommend this restaurant.

The promo wine we chose from the wine list was not available so we had to reselect. Very limited fish options so I chose steak and asked for medium rare. It was ‘well done’ and, when asked if all was well I showed the senior waiter and he agreed it was overcooked. I ate it because I abhor waste. It was tasty but very dry. What a shame! Delicious starters. Excellent chips. Dull desert menu.

Steak and burger was overdone (medium was actually very well done) and generally ambience of the renovation is quite soulless given it is such an historic pub. Not sure there’s much you can do about the latter and it is nicely decorated.

We arrived early as it was pouring with rain but they welcomed us in and we’re happy to let us wait until our booked time. They are super dog friendly with all areas welcoming dogs. The inn has been beautifully extended and there is a huge garden. The Sunday roast was delicious and loads of it. The waiters were very attentive and couldn’t do enough for us. Wonderful place would definitely go back if we are in the area agsin

Good service, attentive wait staff. Charming and polite. Tomato starter tasty but not great value. Disappointing commercial burger, very well done and two x 4oz possibly because so thin. No water offered, medium glass of wine on the smallish size. Good beer selection. Felt like a chain restaurant.

We were impressed with the building and the decor. We were also impressed with the service from the staff Unfortunately it was all let down with the food It was just ‘fast tasteless food’ Frozen fries, The veggie burger was inedible No fresh ingredients No Veg It was all heating food by numbers. We both had the Lemon Tart for desserts, hoping this would finish on a good note. Unfortunately not. They need to cook good fresh food There are so many really good eateries in this part of N.Norfolk We will not be returning

Excellent venue for the two of us to celebrate my partner's birthday. Food and service excellent. Upper grade pub food on menu and to taste with appropriate pricing. Unlike many venues in Norfolk marsquerading as fine dining restaurants with pricing to match only to have the overall product not attaining these standards; the Lord Nelson is fundamentally a dining pub and a good one at that. We sat in one of the smaller rooms off the main dining room and when we return we would request similar rather than the larger open space dining area where most tables are, bit quieter and lovely ambience.

Nice location and staff very friendly. Lovely relaxed place to have lunch after a walk. Food was good but a little pricey for posh pub grub but would go back. EV charging points not working, menu out of date and the card machine packed up… …which I’d put down as teething trouble for a newly opened venue.

What a shame! Having excitedly seen that the Nelson was open again and viewed their website of tantalizing food images, we booked a table with high expectations. The building is superb with a cozy relaxed atmosphere. However, this is where the praise ends. The menu was rather simplistic for such a venue but we chose starters and mains from a very well mannered male waiter who served us all evening. We excused the fact that there was no bread served with the crab mouse as it seemed trivial. Little did we know what was about to be presented for the mains. I chose the veggie burger which, including it's bun, was flatter than a McDonald's meal. There was one piece of limp lettuce and a tiny piece of tomato. The chips were just thrown on the plate and were cold. The description on the menu said there was tomato salsa (none), salad (if you can call it that) and grilled halloumi (not grilled but just sliced and uncooked - yuk). The burger was the worst thing I've ever eaten - it truly tasted like a packet of sage and onion stuffing mixed with water and made into a patty. There definitely wasn't a vegetable in sight. The chicken was raw close to the bone and served with a huge pile of white cabbage - no seasonal green veg and quite unappetizing. We do not ever feel the need to comment but this couldn't go without criticism. We pointed out our complaint to try and be constructive which was greeted well and apologies made. Apparently the pub is working off agency chefs who change every day. Clearly some are not chefs at all as it is below par to offer customers food of this standard and charge the prices which they are. A veggie burger is not a difficult item to make, neither is ensuring that chicken is cooked or presentation skills. As a gesture to our dissatisfaction the waiter did reduce the bill which we were grateful for. So, to sum up; a lovely venue to have a drink in but until they sort out their staffing problems, one to avoid.

The new Lord Nelson still has echoes of its ancient predecessor in the odd corner: that ghastly mural of Trafalgar for example and a truly bad picture of the local parson's son being seduced by another man's wife while Vesuvius or Etna prepares to blow its top in the background. The new building is splendid magnificent kitchen, big room smaller snugs great bar with splendid beers. The food was well cooked and professionally presented but the menu was a disappointment. Does the new Nelson want to be a pub offering standard and severely limited pub grub or something better that reflects its new face? Really heavily battered haddock and chips is simply not good enough. And in this day and age surely vegetarians deserve a choice and vegans a slot on the menu. As it is this pub does not cater for people with food issues. And the wine menu simply doesn't exist; with great vineyards just over the hill at the back of the pub they should start buying in some Burn Valley wines.

I’m sorry I’ve had to write such a poor review. This is based purely on the experience we had this day. I had already booked previously as a surprise for my nautical husband. There was ample opportunity to advise us that there was nothing really to eat on the menu. It wasn’t the fact that there wasn’t a choice, it was that we were allowed to sit in the restaurant and browse the menu without any of the staff alerting beforehand that most of the menu was unavailable. They seated us knowing this and the staff should have advised us before we sat down. We spent too much time looking at a menu that had so many meals crossed out and then to be told the salads we chose weren’t available either. This is unmistakably poor service and I do hope they glean something from this review because the pub itself is a lovely pub in a nice pleasant area.

Lovely pub with friendly staff, unfortunately 2 out of 3 meals were luke warm at best and were returned. The waitress apologised and assured us they would adjust our bill accordingly, which would have been fine. When the bill came this had not been done which was disappointing. I’m sure we just had bad luck and this place is better than our experience.
