The food was served on hot plates and was piping hot - brilliant as we hate cold plates! The food was all very tasty and the chocolate mouse was to die for. All the staff are so friendly and helpful. You couldn’t fault them at all .You really feel that nothing is any trouble. We would highly recommend The Manor.

I travelled up from Dorchester - over an hour to meet a friend half way between the two of us. Visiting before, I had remembered a lovely restaurant with great food. We were asked what our booking was for and I said lunch but was told they don’t do lunches in the restaurant (despite a party of 10 or so being n there). I had booked online for 1.30 lunch (website says they do lunch in the restaurant daily. ) in the end we had to have a mediocre sandwich from the bar. They were very understaffed and we felt a bit of an inconvenience. No reply from a message I sent the next day. Very disappointed.

We had a really lovely time however the room we had afternoon tea in only had 2 other tables and when we walked in to be seated the other 2 tables were very quiet and just stared at us. It was a bit uncomfortable . Once sat down the other 2 tables remained very quiet so the room felt very stilted. We would have preferred our table out in the bar area where you could have conversation easy without feeling other tables just sat listening whole time. Once the other 2 tables had left we relaxed and had a lovely time though

Such a disappointment! Looks lovely on Instagram, sadly the staff were quite rude. The risotto is on the menu as (V) but they covered it in Parmesan and then argued with us about whether Parmesan is vegetarian (it’s made from small animal intestines). They moved us table 3 times when we arrived because we explained we didn’t want afternoon tea about 7 times, to then be told our drinks weren’t included in afternoon tea 🥲🤌🏽 it looks like such a beautiful venue but after hearing some other stories of bad service there I will 100% never be going back. Such a shame

The experience was really memorable for my partners 60th Birthday. The service was excellent and the staff could not do enough for us . Even though we were late . I would definitely recommend this place and the scones are to die for warm and soft which melt in your mouth

Dinner was excellent if a little slow, great value if you have the dinner bread and breakfast option as there are no surcharges for any of the dishes. My only hrip was that Breakfast was advertised open until 11am on sat and Sunday but at 1030 we went for breakfast and many items had run out from the buffet. when we asked if I here would be any more we were told that the kitchen stopped breakfast at 1030. The main reason for the complain is that if the breakfast was cooked to order as in some places and you wen down at 1030 the the food would be the same standard all through the service and in this case it wasn't.

Breakfast at Chilworth Manor on this, our last day, was a better experience. Perhaps it was because we had booked earlier due to checking out or maybe fewer guests book for 8am, or maybe there were just fewer guests in the hotel. We didn’t have to queue to get a table, we didn’t have to queue to get to the buffet, we didn’t have an endless stream of guest passing our table to get to the buffet - in short it was how we had imagined breakfast would be by using a booking system. Perhaps it might be an idea to warn guests when the restaurant has reached full capacity so they have the opportunity of choosing a quieter time.

We arrived exactly at 9.00 am the time our table was booked (as we had been requested to do some weeks ago) and were informed that there were no tables left in the restaurant. We were offered a table in the lounge/bar area or a little side room that had been opened for the overflow. We chose the side room. It was pleasant enough but tea and coffee was not served there as it was in the restaurant. Guests had to make it themselves using the thermos flasks of coffee or hot water. This was disappointing but would not have been a problem if ordinary tea and milk had been provided to go with the hot water. A waitress did try to rectify this as soon as she was told but had difficulty locating the tea so by the time she got back we were halfway through our cooked breakfast. We do not understand how the restaurant can run out of tables if a time slot has to be booked in advance. Surely the policy of pre-booking must apply to ALL guests. In addition to that the guests were not asked to wear masks while serving themselves at the buffet. While it is no longer mandatory to wear a mask it is common sense.

When booking the hotel it looked as though it would be table service but this was changed to “temporary buffet service” which had a very limited menu. Only choice was salad or soup for starter, chicken, fish or vegetarian pasta for mains. Only one type of potatoes on offer and vegetables were available but only on request, so had to order these. No gluten free desserts. Experience was slightly better than a staff canteen.

Good selection of fruits, cereals and cooked breakfast items. No gluten free sausages or bread. Buffet style breakfast. I would have been happier if more guests had been wearing masks while serving themselves but I guess that is up to the individual now rather than the hotel.

Sadly the last minute change to the very limited buffet menu was disappointing. There was a choice of salad or soup for starter, chicken, fish or vegetarian pasta and potatoes for main. Vegetables had to be ordered. The selection of chef’s desserts only offered cheese (no biscuits) for gluten free customers but they did provide a fruit salad that was not on the menu. The staff were very helpful and pleasant but seemed to be working under difficult circumstances.

It was a complete disaster from start to finish, a reservation that wasn't a reservation because they'd overbooked the restaurant due to allocation of one and half hours per sitting. So all dressed up for a romantic evening with my partner whose birthday we're celebrating this weekend being told we can sit in the lounge area. Three more couples in front of us were told exactly the same thing and one couple were celebrating their wedding anniversary! I didn't stand for it and they cleared two tables and so we invited the couple whoes anniversary it was to sit with us and I asked for the other couple to be setted on the other table. Cut to the starters arriving one was completely wrong and two other mine and the lady we invited other had crab balls we're presented totally differently and looked completely different overall. I cut mine in half and it was all potatoe and no crab! My partners was meant to be smoked trouth with a celeriac side and gluten free bread. It was smoked salmon with no celeriac and wilted pinch of watercress, as was mine also. One young man (a trainee) brought the food, didn't know what was being served on the plates!!! His hand was touching his mask every second and then touching our plates! Our table was booked at 7.30, cut to 9pm and our mains hadn't arrived! The staff especially Jodie were very appologetic and othered free drinks that took half an hour so we sat foodless and drinkless for over an hour, other tables were clearly going through similar issues and when the food finally arrived, it wasn't cooked properly, or overcooked and the chefs do not know the difference between a sirlion steak and a rump steak which is what was on my plate and half of it was not edible due to fat and gristle. We were told its the 'NEW' system and because of 'covid' its not been easy. Covid is over and covid doesn't stop good management and having chefs that can actually cook and present food properly. I have never experienced anything so bad and expensive!

Covid made seat planning difficult and you had to book a time but we were made to feel welcome. The staff were enthusiastic and chatty and the food was good. Being nit picky, the menus could have been cut to shape properly (looks unprofessional) and we could have been offered sharper knives for our meat but on the whole it was good.

Very polite and friendly staff. 3 of us chose fish n chips and unfortunately the fish had little flavour. The waiter was covering socially distanced tables so it was hard to catch him to ask for more vinegar and tartar sauce. The waiter didn't come back to ask if everything was okay with our meal or to ask if we wanted any drinks with our main meal but in all fairness he was serving four tables spread out across the terrace.

We went for a meal on Saturday afternoon. On a sunny day, the setting is delightful. We were sat outside in the garden and it's a very nice setting for a Saturday afternoon. While the menu is not really as advertised on Opentable (only the limited bar menu at the moment), the food we ordered wasn't bad. Classic 'pub grub'. The chicken Ceaser salad was pretty nice and both meals were a decent size. My main issue with the place was the service. It wasn't great. There were no more than 4 tables being used at any one time and two waitresses, but we still had to constantly wait long periods of time to get any service as the ladies on duty were more interested in hanging out chatting at the reception than serving the guests, only popping out to the seating area when it was absolutely unavoidable.
