The Market Porter
Wonderful food and the service very efficient while relaxed. A great place for a family reunion - Borough Market is just over the road for a stroll afterwards
What a great place - everything was outstanding! Service was excellent as was the food. Definitely recommend.
It was a last minute booking on a busy summer night. The food we had, the service and atmosphere was FAULTLESS. I had a lovely home made summer pie which was one of the most perfectly cooked and delicately flavoured pies I have ever had. The second time I have eaten here recently and on both occasions every aspect impressed us all. A very very strong recommend
Thank you for such a glowing review! 😊 It is a joy to know that we are getting it right and consistently, a huge credit to Team Market Porter. Many Thanks 🙏 Hope to see you soon from everyone here x
This is the third time I have met my cousin for lunch at the Market Porter. Each time the service and food have been excellent. We both enjoy the atmosphere of borough market and the pub is like an oasis right in the middle of everything. 😊
This is so lovely 😊 to read SteveM We do hope you will keep coming back with your cousins, we are always delighted to have return customers. All the best and Many Thanks From all The Team x
Good food freshly cooked to order friendly service. Book a table in the restaurant upstairs.
Cosy place, very kind and attentive staff, great food, and good views of the crowd outside Borough Street market - highly recommended if you like pub food.
Thank you PeterK We are delighted you enjoyed, the window tables in our upstairs dining room are great for people watching. We hope you can come and see us again! Many Thanks x
Came in when they were about to close and they seated us right away.. service was awesome! Plus the food was outstanding. I enjoyed my experience and will be back when I come to London. Thank you! (From Washington D.C.)
Thank you for your kind words We are always happy to accommodate 😊 Hope to see you on your next visit back to London x
Second visit just as good as the first! Beautiful roast dinner for Sunday lunch. Will definitely recommend & return.
So glad you enjoyed our Sunday Roast JoHass, it really is delicious! We look forward to seeing you on your return Many Thanks from all The Team! X
Its a good pub to bring international visitors too. The range of traditional food is limited but the quality is good. Usually the quality of the beer is something, but in the summer, cask ale is more restricted in terms of the number available, which is a little disappointing given the reputation the pub has.
Thank you for your review We are glad you enjoyed your food and visit here at The Market Porter. In this warm weather unfortunately we do see our sales of Cask Ale drop slightly, customers preferring cold keg beer and cider in the sun. To avoid our lovely ales spoiling before they are sold, we reduce the availability so that the ales on offer stay in tip top tasty condition. We have delicious keg ales such as Adnams Mosaic, Meantime Pale Ale, Founders All Day IPA and Beaver Town Gamma Ray
Every meal I saw coming out of the kitchen looted good. Chilled filtered water placed on the table straight away without being asked for which is good. Service excellent. Thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Liked the extra little pot of gravy for personal use. Recommended.
Thank you MarkW We take a lot of pride in what we do in our little restaurant but it’s still nice to know that we are getting it right. We do hope you can join us again soon!
Had a lovely evening, great service and food. Relaxed atmosphere and quiet enough in the restaurant to be able to talk. Small menu but quality of food was very good.
Lovely to know Ajb123, Thank you! Hope to see you soon!
Good Traditional Pub in Borough Market.
Genuine old pub with great Atmosphere, friendly staff, no fuss, good beer and wines.
One of London’s finest!
Thanks Rory! We love our old pub too! We are delighted you enjoyed your visit, be sure to come back soon!
Picked for a business dinner with clients. Despite heaving with evening drinkers inside and out, the upstairs dining area was relaxed and comfortable. Seated instantly, attentive service, unrushed dinner, ample portions of good pub grub. Will return soon.
We had dinner in the upstairs dining room & the food was a really pleasant surprise. I had ox cheek croquettes followed by an excellent asparagus & pea risotto which was perfectly cooked. My companions had the Market Porter burger which they said was excellent.
The service was very cheerful and pleasant. Our waiter had only been in post a week and did a great job.
Thank you AlisonH for your kind words I will pass your comments on to our Freddie, he will be so pleased 😃 We look forward to seeing you again soon!
Nice place to eat, good food. The restaurant upstairs is made super special by the lovely, cheerful waitress who makes you feel so welcome and well attended to.
A lovely time, great food, good to have a window view
Food was very bad - the Prawn Linguine special had the tiniest prawns I've ever seen and was pretty tastless. This place is situated next to Borough Market for goodness sake! Get some ingredients. My friend asked for a chicken pie asking specifically to make sure it was not a chicken and mushroom pie. The pie came with mushrooms.
Okay for a quick informal lunch. Food was good. The furniture could do with a refresh.
Superb dinner. Excellent service and was very impressed with the portions and prices. Will definitely return.
Thank you so much for your lovely comments, it’s always nice to know we are getting it right! Hope to see you again soon.
We had an excellent lunch. The specials were superb and the service very efficient and friendly - from a young lady (English) and a young Polish man.
Thank you Paco! Myself and Waclaw are delighted that you enjoyed, please come and see us again soon and be sure to check out our great daily specials!
Very friendly welcome and nice ambience in dining area. Downstairs bar is very noisy so it was a relief to be upstairs. All was fine until a table was seated next to us and it became very hard to hear my companions, whose first language is not English.
I am vegan and only one choice, not a very exciting option, on the menu. My friends were happy with their meat options however.
Great Restaurant serving high quality food - you simply must try the Salmon Scotch egg!
Thank you PhilipS, so glad you enjoyed the salmon scotch egg, we think it is superb too! Hope to see you soon!
Great place to have dinner. Quiet enough to chat but buzzing downstairs and food/ wine good
Thank you BenP279, come and see us again soon!
Very tasty, our family ate upstairs and had traditional pub fare: meat pies and fish & chips. Great spot to relax at the end of the day with delicious comfort food.
Thanks for joining us FrankieB! Glad you enjoyed our homemade pub grub!
Great place...fish and chips were perfect for a Friday evening catch up!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed, hope to see you again soon
A lovely meal and drinks at the Market Porter. Good for vegetarians too and great for people watching over Borough Market. Very friendly staff too
Thank you JMilli, those window tables in our dining room are perfect for watching the world go by! Come and see us again soon.
We ordered the fish and chips and they were excellent! Crispy and flavorful! The mushy peas were also fabulous! Don’t leave without ordering the sticky toffee pudding!!!!
Comfortable upstairs dining room in a busy pub near Borough Market. Once you've fought your way through the crowd outside and downstairs at the pub, the dining room is an oasis of calm. Good menu of classic dishes. Our fish and chips were crisp, succulent and tasty. Efficient service and prices that are relatively good value for the area.
The downstairs bar was typically chaotic, but upstairs was lovely, with views of Borough Market and a nice server who let us linger for hours. We will definitely go back!
I was there on a Wednesday lunchtime which wasn't busy so that might have influenced things but I couldn't fault it - good, friendly service, excellent food... what's not to like!
Great little find. Great food and good service - the choice of real ales was an added bonus!
My cousin and I had agreed to meet at the Market Porter for lunch. I knew and had used a the pub occasionally in the past but this was the first time I had used the restaurant. Overall a very good experience and my cousin and I agreed we would use it again. Great position in Famous Borough Market. Friendly staff, good food and noticeably cheaper than the equivalent pub would be the other side of London Bridge in the City. 😊
Comfortable atmosphere, good food and service!
Only downsides are very limited choice soft drinks available and lack of salt and pepper squid on a Sunday :-)
It was a nice dinner - nothing spectacular
Booking upstairs is advisable - nice room and bar overlooking Borough Market and as to bexpected a good variety of beer, incluiodngs Harvey's. Simple but good menu. Am a regular visitor!
We enjoyed the excellent food (curry, trout and pie) and good beer. We shared a delicious steamed pudding with custard. My only complaint was that the plate (for the fish) was cold.
Lovely fire and cosy, quiet atmosphere despite the Friday after-work drinkers downstairs.
A lovely meal at the Market Porter as always.
Great that the Beef roast is back.
Even better if salt and pepper squid was available on a Sunday;-)
Seems to be less choice in soft drinks since the refurbishment
The upstairs restaurant was nice and cosy. The food was okay but my fish was a bit oily.
Poor experience with Sunday Roast. Food was cold and returned and several side options were not available. Not what I was expecting after previous good experiences.
I had low expectations of the Market Porter as I know it's a really busy drinking pub and it was one of the only places I could get a table for us at the last minute - never a great sign. However, once you battle through the bar and head up to the restaurant area, the vibe is very different and it actually feels quite cosy. The staff were very friendly and efficient and the food was really great. I had the sea bass, and my friends had the chicken Kiev and we both thoroughly enjoyed them. So much so that I'm going back there this weekend. £15 for a perfectly cooked sea bass can't be bad.
