The Mash Inn
I took my Dad for his birthday for lunch, the food was great and we had a lovely view across the fields. I didn’t have a dessert so they very kindly didn’t charge us for our coffee’s, a very nice gesture. I will definitely be back with my husband.
From the welcome upon our arrival, to the farewell at our departure we were individually looked after by the team in a way that made us feel very special... thank you.
After a drink in the bar, we were shown through to the dining room... Talking to the Chef and discussing the Kitchen prior to being seated was great ‘food for thought’.
The Tasting Menu and Wine Pairing were excellent. We loved all of the dishes, especially those that came between the ones on the menu and the wines were all ones we don’t think that we’d ever have chosen ourselves had we been left to our own devices and were fab when paired, great points for discussion around the table, much enjoyed by us all.
Thank you for making our evening such a memorable one, especially as we were celebrating our sons 30th birthday along with his Fiancé.
We are already recommending The Mash Inn to anyone prepared to listen and will be back in the future.
Keep up the standards and never be complacent... well done to you all!!
The £25 lunch menu is great value. The food was really tasty, the service friendly and all set in a very special and beautiful location. I look forward to going back sometime.
From the moment we walked in we were treated to a warm welcome by every member of staff. It is clearly run by people that love what they do, as it was our first time we were taken into the kitchen to meet the chef. This was then followed by the most incredible food! Our experience was faultless and I cannot wait to visit again.
Excellent foody experience. Would recommend to anyone looking for a top quality meal. Will come back in the summer when fresh produce from the Garden is available.
Second time here and once again the best food I’ve had in 20 years.
The Mash Inn is a wonderful venue set in lovely countryside; a true hidden gem.
Hannah (front of house) provided a warm welcome, in fact by the time I finished my drink at the bar I felt like I had reacquainted with a long lost friend.
The staff are incredibly attentive and responsive. This is a beautiful restaurant in all respects (food exceptionally good and full of flavours) - feels a little bit pricey for the location!
A must visit venue and worth the drive particularly in the summer months I would imagine.
A well executed idea born in Queens Park!
Wonderful staff and wonderful food. Being shown the kitchen before the meal was a lovely touch.
Hands down the best meal I've ever eaten, brilliantly complemented by friendly, laid back staff and a relaxed, unpretentious atmosphere. It is expensive, but for the for the quantity and quality of food provided, I actually believe that it's great value. We were made to feel very at home and would be sure to return at some point in the not too distant future (once funds have recovered).
We had the set lunch menu which was ideal.
No wine as we were both driving.
It was lovely to be shown the kitchen space before sitting down
Food was an explosion of taste.
Delightful table overlooking the garden. We ate watching the wildlife.
Attentive and informative service.
Excellent meal, great service, fascinating wine selection, overall a wonderful experience!!
We had an amazing meal and the service was exceptional. Pricey but a lovely experience.
Friendly staff , food cooked to perfection. A lovely lunchtime experience . Cosy county pub with a lovely ambience. Great to have the open kitchen seeing the chefs at work !
Amazing birthday lunch - leisurely 3 hours to savour the lovely local wine and course after course of interesting and delicious food. Accommodated a nut allergy with zero fuss - I asked what they had had to exchange and got a wry smile in reply. All staff made our table feel very special and can not fault the efficient yet friendly service. It felt like eating at your friends house (just with better food!) Would love to return.
Great welcome, great food, we loved the snacks, they were a high point. My only negative comment is that we saw lots of walkers come in looking for a drink and a snack and they were turned away. So not sure that it should be called an inn?
A great experience as always. Interesting flavours, beautiful presentation and friendly service. I have visited 4 times now and each time my expectations are surpassed. The daily menu and tasting menu are well worth a try. On one occasion I tried the paired flight of drinks and they were outstanding. Food wise, personal favourites include the varieru of snacks, soup, bog butter flatbreads, steak and dessert cheeses. Lovely guest rooms and breakfast in bed too.
Excellent lunch, friendly personal service and a lovely ambience
The last time I visited the Mash I had a truly wonderful meal and the whole occasion was truly memorable. On this visit, if anything, I was even more impressed, the food which was exceptional last time may well have surpassed the heights achieved previously. The tasting menu mixed with a couple of outstanding surprises was delicious and seemed to flow more naturally each course enhancing the previous one.
Without question or hesitation I am very happy to recommend the Mash to everyone.
Lovely walk welcome after a walk in the Chilterns. Amazing Virgin Mary and food outstanding. Just took off a star as the our table (by the French windows) was very cold and draughty (it was a cold day, but still think this could be improved).
This has to be one of my favourite places to eat. Been 4 times now. Ticks every box - awesome food, passionate and friendly staff, beautiful setting, relaxing, lovely welcoming log burner for quick pre-dinner drink. For any foodie that wants a laid back but quality place to treat yourself to this is it. Can’t recommend the Mash Inn highly enough and hope we can find an excuse to go again soon. Thank you guys!
We enjoyed the best meal we’ve had in a long time and we were very impressed by the attentive friendly and welcoming staff. Thank you very much for a wonderful experience.
Our second visit to the Mash Inn this year. Lunch on both occasions. The starter snacks were superb, varied, creative and scrumptious, all that followed was impressive. Cannot fault it and will return early in the New Year to savour their recently introduced Sunday lunch.
Love this place, first time that the menu didn’t blow us away. The pheasant was too over powering!
Very impressed upon first visit. Have recommended to all of our friends. Daytime views across the valley added to the experience. Looking forward to our next visit.
We had a wonderful lunch. Food delicious, service perfect. Loved the whole experience.
Wonderful afternoon celebrating our anniversary with a delicious tasting menu. Fantastic service in a unique and cosy atmosphere.
Memorable and very different to anything I’ve experienced.
Amazing, as always! Every course was perfect, and the dining experience, with the setting and service, is always spot on!
An excellent time at a new restaurant for us having travelled from Beaconsfield to Oxford, Oxford being our home. We like unusual places with a nice ambience and excellent food that has variety, not standard but cooking of a high standard. We felt The Mash Inn ticked all our boxes on that day - a quiet Wednesday lunchtime but yet there were enough diners in for lunch on that day to make the ambience just right. The views to the Chilterns were charming and we had a delightful window seat. Our menu was different, inspired, well cooked and had plenty of interest. We shall definitely be returning and have mentioned it to several friends and our family. Many thanks for a very nice lunch in a relaxed and friendly environment.
My husband and I ate at this restaurant recently. It's 'theme' is that everyone just about is cooked over coals, the produce being freshly picked/ foraged.
We had a lovely table but being next to a draughty window we asked to move. Note the restaurant is chilly so take something cover shoulders.
We had the tasting menu and were offered a few extra bits too which was lovely and well received.
We had opted not to go for the wine flight and the initial sommelier was great at helping us choose glasses wine. A further waiter then brought a couple of courses with wine glasses and drink which we assumed as we were not offered them were part of the deal or a complimentary as these were presented along with the course.
A bit cheeky to say the least and not what I have ever experienced previously.
A genuinely superb fine dining experience. Different enough to stand out, but with every essential element of a truly great restaurant. Service friendly and attentive, but never overbearing, and the food was at every turn magnificent. The little extras were very welcome and food cleverly presented, but the focus remained on making everything delicious. One of the very best meals of my life.
The Mash Inn was thoroughly enjoyable from beginning to end. The staff were incredibly welcoming, warm and inviting, whilst clearly having a passion for the food they serve/cook which makes the dining experience all the more enjoyable.
The food was inventive, tasty, and overall good value for money considering the overall experience. Good quality drinks, and a seasonal menu. A lovely open kitchen that displays all the ingredients on the menu.
Overall a five star experience that I will be keen to try again. Oh and next time we’d like to stay over!
Amazing find! Food and service excellent
Our second visit and it doesn't disappoint. Exceptional food and service
An outstanding culinary journey by Jon Parry with a service to match. A huge thumbs-up to Nick and the Team.
Very very expensive - would not recommend .
Very poor value for money - food not that impressive
A fabulous restaurant with clever, creative food. The sommelier is witty and knowledgeable. The staff are friendly and welcoming. We will definitely be back
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Waiter/waitress was friendly and knowledgeable and helpful. Views also good and food came on time but not too fast. We'll be back!
Fabulous! We went for a friends birthday but one of our party was pregnant so could only eat certain foods. They accommodated us with no problems and tailor made a menu just for us. The service was personalised and friendly - the set up of the restaurant unique - and the food was beautiful.
The Mash Inn is head and shoulders above any other alternative locally. Great food, much of it locally sourced , and cooked exclusively over a wood fire, make this a very different venue from most country restaurants. Service is welcoming and friendly and the conversion from a fairly ordinary pub has been very nicely done. We will be back.
