The Mash Inn
Great welcome, great food, we loved the snacks, they were a high point. My only negative comment is that we saw lots of walkers come in looking for a drink and a snack and they were turned away. So not sure that it should be called an inn?
A great experience as always. Interesting flavours, beautiful presentation and friendly service. I have visited 4 times now and each time my expectations are surpassed. The daily menu and tasting menu are well worth a try. On one occasion I tried the paired flight of drinks and they were outstanding. Food wise, personal favourites include the varieru of snacks, soup, bog butter flatbreads, steak and dessert cheeses. Lovely guest rooms and breakfast in bed too.
Excellent lunch, friendly personal service and a lovely ambience
The last time I visited the Mash I had a truly wonderful meal and the whole occasion was truly memorable. On this visit, if anything, I was even more impressed, the food which was exceptional last time may well have surpassed the heights achieved previously. The tasting menu mixed with a couple of outstanding surprises was delicious and seemed to flow more naturally each course enhancing the previous one.
Without question or hesitation I am very happy to recommend the Mash to everyone.
Lovely walk welcome after a walk in the Chilterns. Amazing Virgin Mary and food outstanding. Just took off a star as the our table (by the French windows) was very cold and draughty (it was a cold day, but still think this could be improved).
This has to be one of my favourite places to eat. Been 4 times now. Ticks every box - awesome food, passionate and friendly staff, beautiful setting, relaxing, lovely welcoming log burner for quick pre-dinner drink. For any foodie that wants a laid back but quality place to treat yourself to this is it. Can’t recommend the Mash Inn highly enough and hope we can find an excuse to go again soon. Thank you guys!
We enjoyed the best meal we’ve had in a long time and we were very impressed by the attentive friendly and welcoming staff. Thank you very much for a wonderful experience.
Our second visit to the Mash Inn this year. Lunch on both occasions. The starter snacks were superb, varied, creative and scrumptious, all that followed was impressive. Cannot fault it and will return early in the New Year to savour their recently introduced Sunday lunch.
Love this place, first time that the menu didn’t blow us away. The pheasant was too over powering!
Very impressed upon first visit. Have recommended to all of our friends. Daytime views across the valley added to the experience. Looking forward to our next visit.
We had a wonderful lunch. Food delicious, service perfect. Loved the whole experience.
Wonderful afternoon celebrating our anniversary with a delicious tasting menu. Fantastic service in a unique and cosy atmosphere.
Memorable and very different to anything I’ve experienced.
Amazing, as always! Every course was perfect, and the dining experience, with the setting and service, is always spot on!
An excellent time at a new restaurant for us having travelled from Beaconsfield to Oxford, Oxford being our home. We like unusual places with a nice ambience and excellent food that has variety, not standard but cooking of a high standard. We felt The Mash Inn ticked all our boxes on that day - a quiet Wednesday lunchtime but yet there were enough diners in for lunch on that day to make the ambience just right. The views to the Chilterns were charming and we had a delightful window seat. Our menu was different, inspired, well cooked and had plenty of interest. We shall definitely be returning and have mentioned it to several friends and our family. Many thanks for a very nice lunch in a relaxed and friendly environment.
My husband and I ate at this restaurant recently. It's 'theme' is that everyone just about is cooked over coals, the produce being freshly picked/ foraged.
We had a lovely table but being next to a draughty window we asked to move. Note the restaurant is chilly so take something cover shoulders.
We had the tasting menu and were offered a few extra bits too which was lovely and well received.
We had opted not to go for the wine flight and the initial sommelier was great at helping us choose glasses wine. A further waiter then brought a couple of courses with wine glasses and drink which we assumed as we were not offered them were part of the deal or a complimentary as these were presented along with the course.
A bit cheeky to say the least and not what I have ever experienced previously.
A genuinely superb fine dining experience. Different enough to stand out, but with every essential element of a truly great restaurant. Service friendly and attentive, but never overbearing, and the food was at every turn magnificent. The little extras were very welcome and food cleverly presented, but the focus remained on making everything delicious. One of the very best meals of my life.
The Mash Inn was thoroughly enjoyable from beginning to end. The staff were incredibly welcoming, warm and inviting, whilst clearly having a passion for the food they serve/cook which makes the dining experience all the more enjoyable.
The food was inventive, tasty, and overall good value for money considering the overall experience. Good quality drinks, and a seasonal menu. A lovely open kitchen that displays all the ingredients on the menu.
Overall a five star experience that I will be keen to try again. Oh and next time we’d like to stay over!
Amazing find! Food and service excellent
Our second visit and it doesn't disappoint. Exceptional food and service
An outstanding culinary journey by Jon Parry with a service to match. A huge thumbs-up to Nick and the Team.
Very very expensive - would not recommend .
Very poor value for money - food not that impressive
A fabulous restaurant with clever, creative food. The sommelier is witty and knowledgeable. The staff are friendly and welcoming. We will definitely be back
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Waiter/waitress was friendly and knowledgeable and helpful. Views also good and food came on time but not too fast. We'll be back!
Fabulous! We went for a friends birthday but one of our party was pregnant so could only eat certain foods. They accommodated us with no problems and tailor made a menu just for us. The service was personalised and friendly - the set up of the restaurant unique - and the food was beautiful.
The Mash Inn is head and shoulders above any other alternative locally. Great food, much of it locally sourced , and cooked exclusively over a wood fire, make this a very different venue from most country restaurants. Service is welcoming and friendly and the conversion from a fairly ordinary pub has been very nicely done. We will be back.
Pretentious snobby overpriced and most of the food was inedible
Dining at The Mash Inn felt like such a treat - we were plied with absolutely outstanding food and attentive, thoughtful service. The level of passion these people put into their work is clear to see, it was a brilliant foodie experience!
I booked this restaurant for celebrate my wedding anniversary. My husband and I were amazed with the food, service and the view. We are definitely coming back, the food was excellent, well presented and remarkable taste. We have recommended it to our friends already.
We arrived on a hot summer’s day before our friends arrived - they were held up in traffic from London and were going to be late. James suggested a seat in the shade by the pond where we relaxed and enjoyed the stunning views. Our friends joined us eventually and their traffic chaos melted away as the Mash team simply absorbed the delay bringing us delicious canapes then taking us to our table for lunch. We didn't need to look at the menu - we simply enjoyed the fantastically cooked, fresh, seasonal food from local suppliers and from the Mash kitchen garden together with a great bottle of wine from a carefully chosen wine list. All delivered by a friendly and professional team. The only regret our friends had was that they hadn't booked one of the rooms to stay in that night - but they plan to next time and we will be back!
A great meal, good value with friendly service. Main course slightly over salted but that bothers some people more than others - I was fine with it
The tasting menu was extremely creative and beautifully presented. A perfect birthday treat
Exquisite, innovative seasonal home grown foods cooked to perfection
Probably the best meal I have ever had in the nicest of locations with the loveliest of staff. Five Stars.
A very special place; the staff were lovely and attentive to our every need. The food is all sourced locally using innovative and interesting techniques and all cooked on fire. And it is all delicious, with drinks to match. Would highly recommend to anyone!
Second visit to the Mash Inn and it doesn’t disappoint. Exceptional food, service and the venue is beautiful. We had the taster menu again and every course was outstanding.
Incredible. Still my favourite restaurant to date. Never disappoints.
An incredible experience. Go and try it for yourself as telling you about it would spoil the fun!!! Suffice to say, the food was totally amazing, embracing local produce and cooked to perfection. A must place to visit!
The cooking is innovative using hot coals. The starter of beans and flatbread was excellent. We also asked for the snacks from the tasting menu to be added to the set lunch. This was done without hesitation. Main course of turbot also very good. The strawberries were just that. The set lunch which we had is very good value.
Setting of the garden in the valley is lovely. Would recommend.
Excellent food , very innovative and tasty dishes served in a beautiful rural setting. The lunch menu had a limited choice but worked well. Short wine list with some interesting rarities. Service was friendly and efficient.
