The Mash Inn
We booked to have a Sunday roast at The Mash Inn for my birthday, everything was wonderful apart from we got a little unlucky with our table. My boyfriend had to spend the afternoon sat next to the toilet and staring at the back of the room at a curtain. Whilst all other tables and guests had views of the panoramic countryside. He wasn't bothered but I thought it was a bit of a shame.
What a great discovery
We were very warmly greeted and shown the fantastic kitchens before being shown to our table. The food was spectacular and service was excellent-
We will be back
An absolute treat. We had a wonderful meal. It is the 4th time we've been and this was the best.
Roaring fire in the snug bar for a drink
Was able to look out over the glorious Chiltern Hills as we dined
Venison pie main course was epic.
Interesting menu, including surprise starter snack. Excellent service. Wine a bit pricy.
Altogether delightful lunch. Staff full of passion for what they did. Food couldn't be faulted. Interesting and affordable selection of wines.
Tucked away but well worth seeking out - Lovely setting and atmosphere with open kitchen, cosy bar area and tasteful furnishings.
The set lunch is great value with friendly and efficient service - highly recommend!
Fabulous place, food outstanding, service exceptional, ambiance great!
Amazing food without a pretentious stuffy atmosphere. Can’t wait to go back ❤️
We arrived not knowing much about the Mash as we hadn't read up about it which in hindsight was probably not a good idea. Having only the choice of 2 fixed menus was a surprise. The waiter was great and knowledgeable about the wines and generous with tasting, but the price of a 125ml glass we felt was high.
Some of the food was a bit too interesting rather than straightforward, but very nicely presented and a majority delicious. The staff were professional and the ambience good and it was busy. Overall we enjoyed the experience but were surprised at the cost and whilst we should have known what we were getting into, if we had felt that it was faultless we wouldn't have minded.
Delicious tasting menu with so many inventive and flavourful small dishes, often smoked/seared and with Asian notes. Superb standard of ingredients (especially top notch fish and vegetables). Terrific value for food that is easily Michelin star quality, yet in a charming and unflashy pub. Friendly efficient service and good wine list. What’s not to like?
Excellent service in a very inviting and cosy environment.
You get get much more than the menu explains which is a really nice surprise. The food is excellent with some very interesting flavours and textures.
A lovely venue and great service. The "short" menu is like a taster menu - lots of small innovative dishes. I really like the way that the meal is made from food they grow themselves or source very locally. This rather dictates the menu as footsore very seasonal. I really like this.
Service and food were excellent. Been here a few times for the tasting menu in the evening but first time for Sunday lunch and it didn’t disappoint!
Wonderful first visit to the Mash Inn. Charming and welcoming staff took time to tell us about each dish on the tasting menu. Good to see so much local produce featured. Loved being able to see the work going on in the kitchen. We will certainly return
We love the Mash Inn! Had lunch there one Sunday recently and just went again recently for Saturday lunch.
The food is wonderful, inventive and brilliantly cooked. Service is really amazing they love what they do ! Location has stunning views and the place retains its old world pub charm but with a clean look in the restaurant.
Can't wait to go back in the Spring. The menu was delicious.
The Mash offers flawless food and service in a lovely setting. What a team.
Very creative high quality food. A very high end experience but still friendly and casual.
A really great experience. We’ll be back.
The Mash Inn is simply wonderful. A pre lunch drink in the snuggly bar, a lovely view over the rolling countryside (with a visit from the local ducks), a fabulous lunch (we had the set menu), discreet but attentive service - what more could you want on a rainy Friday afternoon?
They really deserve to be successful. The Mash Inn provides a great dining experience and maintains the highest standards.
Looking forward to visiting again.
think this must be our 6th or 7th visit. Still our favourite place. The goats cheese macaron was to die for. The beef may have been a bit too rare for some....
Possibly the best meal I have had all year
Great food but limited menu. Shame they’ve got rid of the a la carte menu
Magnificent food served in a beautiful rural location.
I would readily go back - often!
Exceptional service and creative cooking made for a very lovely evening. I would definitely return.
Absolutely brilliant! Food, atmosphere and service were great. We had a long Friday lunch for my husband’s birthday.
Very friendly staff in pleasant surroundings. Food as delivered didn't match menu card, but if you fancy a "surprise" meal, this could be for you. The "amuse bouche" style offerings were unexceptional, mains poor, but the soup and coffee were good. Overall it's poor value for money.
Gets better and better.
Outstanding attention to flavour and innovation.
Size of portions for tasting menu remains perfect.
The food at the Mash Inn is absolutely delicious. Fresh, local products used to produce creative and comforting food. The service was great, they have created an intimate and local feeling which is reflected by the head chef talking you through the dishes and the owner serving you food and telling you about the pubs history. The menu was interesting, I loved the idea of snacks to start and it was an absolute treat waiting to see what came next. I think in total we had 8 courses...amazing value for money!
Fantastic meal . Had the tasting menu and every course was a delightful revelation. Loved the fact the chef came out and explained some of the dishes and gave us a quick tour of the kitchen at the end of our meal. Service excellent, great wines. Absolutely nothing to fault.
Lovely venue - very attentive service and truly delicious food
Absolutely outstanding and quite unique.
Unreserved praise. Can’t wait to go back
This is such a special place. The food is incredible and so inventive. Second visit and love it. Will be back!!
The best lunch I think I have ever experienced. The staff were fantastic, as was the whole experience. We will be definitely returning for another dinning extravaganza.
A superbly crafted restaurant set in the beautiful Chiltern countryside.
A really inclusive approach to the food you are being presented with and of course eating. The 'snacks' were superb particularly the leeks. Glad to see, finally, that bog butter gets its day in the sun... service was exemplary. Wine list goes hand in hand with everything else. Worth every penny. Pub? Restaurant? A restaurant in what was a pub... who cares!
Nowhere better! Awesome food, service, drinks, location. The best dining experience anyone could ever wish for. Just go! (Or maybe I should be saying don’t go - as then I stand a better chance of getting another reservation!) You guys are the best!
Excellent food, perfect service (attentive but not overly so), beautiful location. Will definitely visit again.
Wedding Anniversary Meal. Absolutely lovely ... we were lucky enough to have a particularly quiet Wednesday night and we were treated impeccably. We had the choice of tables, a fantastic tasting menu - with many additional nibbles (with the chefs talking through anything we wanted to know) and a wine selection that perfectly complimented the dishes (Hannah chose the perfect wine to accompany a couple of dishes at a time). A fabulous, memorable evening - many thanks!
This is just a fabulous find my husband & 1 had wonderful lunch on a beautiful sunny afternoon many thanks to all who where involved we will be back soon with family 🥂⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
My new favourite restaurant . They can only be using witchcraft to conjure such flavour
The Mash Inn was fantastic. Nick was the ultimate host... offering suggestions and even changing the menu slightly so that we could have an even better sharing feast. All the staff were friendly and knowledgable, and it was sunny... so we got to have drinks in the garden, looking out at the incredible view.
We stayed all afternoon and were not rushed, it was a wonderful day.
