The Mash Tun sits beside the River Spey, nestled in beautiful Aberlour. Recently refurbished, it is now a stylish boutique hotel. This historic establishment has been transformed into a beacon of Scottish hospitality, marrying tradition with contemporary luxury.
Our small restaurant offers fine dining without the fuss and a cosy and intimate ambiance.
The whisky bar boasts a magnificent stock of Scottish malts, with a few guest stars from around the world and our own award winning Stalla Dhu range. We also boast our own cigar humidor where guests can choose from an impressive selection of Cuban and New World cigars, to be enjoyed in our enclosed and heated cigar hut!

    Absolutely gorgeous in all aspects!! To relax outside overlooking the River Spey, perfect, excellent food and service on both occasions we visited. Would highly recommend you visit if you’re in the vicinity, not to be missed, thank you! very special (our dogs loved it as well, paying an unaccompanied visit inside unbeknown to us!)

    Had dinner for 2 on a Wednesday evening. Young but friendly and attentive staff, delicious food. We had the charcuterie shared starter, Haddock & chips and sticky toffee pudding for dessert. Generous portion sizes for all, great quality and taste as well. We spent two hours here and enjoyed every minute of it. Highly recommended for people who are seeking good, high quality and delicious food to comfort the soul after a long day.

    Been a few years since our last visit to the mash tun & it was outstanding! the service was great with a lovely relaxed atmosphere & the lamb was outstanding it was as really nice & I can guarantee we will be back soon

    I’m sorry to leave a bad review but I’m afraid we didn’t have an enjoyable evening with you. Firstly though, the positives - the food was hot and tasty. The young lad serving at our table appeared to be a new member of staff but he did his best and other members of staff were polite and friendly. Now for the bad. We were 4 adults sat at a small round table more suited to 2 (we needed to remove table decorations and place them on a windowsill to have a hope of fitting our plates, glasses, and cutlery on it) and were pushed into a corner with no space to manoeuvre whatsoever - and none of us are oversized. 2 of the party are vegans and had just 1 item from the menu to choose from..and neither of them like gnocchi!! In the end they each ordered several vegetable side dishes to make up a meal…that’s not my idea of going out to dine. The portions (main meals, desserts and side dishes) were SMALL - for example, a serving of ‘roast potatoes’ consisted of just one potato (or less) cut into 5 thin slices. The venison pies were tiny. We went home hungry. Not good. One of our party asked for a Brandy coffee in place of dessert but was told Brandy was not stocked behind the bar. Pardon me? If it was purely a whisky bar that’s fair enough, but in fact Wine, Beer and Gin was being served, so why not Brandy?!? Lastly, the meal was expensive. Far too expensive for being uncomfortably squeezed in, for leaving the venue hungry, and for feeling generally disappointed and embarrassed for suggesting to our guests that we should eat there.
