Early booking is highly recommended.
Our first visit to this lovely restaurant. A little difficult to find even with a satnav but well worth it! The building is very inviting with a riverside setting and parking available.
Inside it just gets better with a really good decor of exposed beams throughout.
A comfortable lounge area with a working log fire and plenty of comfortable seating.
Our waitress served our ordered drinks before taking us to our table in the eating area.
Wonderful menu, well put together and the quality of all the food served was excellent.
The steak was cooked precisely as I wanted it and was very tender. Presentation was also very well done and we enjoyed everything without exception. A no hurry approach was great and we had a lovely evening. Look out for the enormous mirror in the lounge area! We will be back for sure! Highly recommended.
Mermaid’s Slipper was super. The welcome was warm, the food was delicious. Slight, very slight negatives, there was no soup on offer and it was a cold night. The mains took a long time to arrive, we were seated by 7:40, ordered relatively quickly, delicious amuse Boucher, followed by equally delicious bread and starters. We then waited 45 minutes for our main course. It is a small restaurant and I’m sure everything was cooked to order. Ext time I’d go earlier. Sadly we had no room for dessert, looking at others I know we missed out.
Another lovely meal at The Mermaid’s Slipper. The roaring fire in the wood burner was most welcoming on such a cold night. Food and service impeccable. Thank you.
If you want quality service, excellent food prepared on site at a reasonable price and lovely comfortable environment, then this is the place. It is a local gem.
What an amazing find, tucked away but a real treasure. We visited on a wet Wednesday evening in February, so understandably it was a quiet night, despite this we were given a very warm welcome and there was a really comfortable feeling about the place. The front of house staff were excellent, knowledgeable, efficient and friendly and behind the scenes the chef certainly knows what he’s doing. We found it hard to choose from the menu, all three of us would happily have had anything from the menu! The wine list is good and very reasonably priced. Service was efficient but not at all rushed and at the end of our meal we all agreed it was a very memorable meal and we would definitely like to return next time we are in Norfolk. They are definitely doing things right and making an effort to run special events eg Mother’s Day. If you want a good meal in Norfolk do try this restaurant, they deserve every success!
An excellent meal with very attentive waitresses - would have liked a few more vegetables. Plates were beautifully arranged.
I took my husband to this restaurant last night for his birthday, the place is so beautiful and the staff are lovely.
food was amazing well definitely go again.
We enjoyed a great Sunday lunch there was a good choice of foods freshly prepared and extremely tasty.
Absolutely loved The Mermaids Slipper.
First visit, definitely will not be the last.
Loved everything about it, really really good food, service and to top it off a highly ethical ethos supporting a charity.
Had a lovely meal. The decor was really different. Ceiling to floor mirror which was stunning. Husband thought an arch to another room. Lovely squashy sofas and a roaring Woodburner really cosy. The meal plenty of choice and not the usual ones. Salt cod canapés to start, Scallops, blue cheese pear & walnut salad, then dry matured roast beef smoked haddock spinach & chestnut mushroom pie followed by citrus fruit ice cream & choc brownie with chic sauce. All served by attentive waitresses. Would go back if I am this way again. Like to try evening meal. Parking outside too. Lovely ambience
Fantastic atmosphere service first class and the best meal we have had for a very long time
Wonderful food, welcoming staff and beautiful decor. We had Sunday lunch, just the 2 of us, and it was fabulous. Made very welcome from the minute we walked in til we left. Lovely little touches like canapés as we were seated, delicious bread on the table and homemade chocolates with coffee. Everything was cooked to perfection and plenty of it. I had the roast beef and my husband had the pork chop. Plenty of fresh and varied vegetables too. Pudding were excellent, just difficult to choose between them! Would definitely recommend and can’t wait to go back.
What a jewel. Great food and service. Intimate and relaxed atmosphere, benefiting a good cause. Already booked in next month. ❤️
Excellent food, very good service and lovely surroundings. Would definately recommend and will be going again.
This was our first visit and wont be our last we live not far away, my only comment was the service was slow and it wasnt busy, but will certainly go again.
Lovely food in a great atmosphere and fantastic service
Relaxed unhurried eating. Excellent service and food amounts just right.
Lovely environment. Warm contemporary and welcoming. Staff a little slow and a little inexperienced. Food really good. However, we would happily forgo all the in between courses. It’’s just the bread that the table wants.. not all the other bits which I imagine are costly and time consuming. I would much rather have more vegetables with the main course. We have been a lot.. and the merlot has always run out and there is never any de..caffeinated coffee or camomile tea. Hope this is constructive and not negative criticism. We are committed to the restaurant and wish it success. Thanks. Jan Austin.
I very visit to the Mermaid Slipper and certainly will not be the last.
From the warm welcome on a chilly December night, to the friendly service by the staff and excellence of the food, a 5 star experience all round.
Paul & Caroline
Very slow service, food quality was ok but very small portions.
We had a lovely Sunday lunch here on a whim and were not disappointed.
The food was excellent and we thought the little extras were a great surprise!
The service was outstanding and the staff very friendly.
We have told everyone to give it a try!!
Outstanding Food and Awesome Service
Five of us went to the Mermaids Slipper for a celebratory dinner last Saturday evening and what a fabulous time we had. The food was just outstanding and we were all blown away by the flavours and presentation of the entire meal. The attention to detail was just great from the 'welcome to the table' appetiser, the home baked bread, the palate cleansing sorbet and the birthday card !! We highly recommend this restaurant for the food of course but also for its attentive and personable staff who just couldn't do enough for us. We had some well travelled diners with us and they both said they had rarely eaten such outstanding food. We wish you much luck and the added bonus of profits heading to a wonderful charitable cause providing meals for hungry children in a poorer part of the world is an added string to your bow. Well done. Thank you all again
Food atmosphere staff & ambience excellent. Only niggle - fish portion (Cod loin) very small. Venison excellent.
Lovely place with a great feel and very conscientious staff who were especially careful with regard to my nut allergy. My husband enjoyed his birthday celebration meal immensely!
Possibly the best restaurant experience I've ever had! I really can't praise it enough! Very friendly service, beautiful place with a nice peaceful ambiance. Then there's the food... wow! Everything was so good! The Parmesan biscuits served at the start of the meal were mouth watering, then the focaccia bread and butter was delicious. This was followed by the nicest roast dinner I've ever had! (Sorry mum and dad!) Everything was simply perfect!
The whole experience feels like a top quality restaurant from the moment you walk in the door and are shown to the comfy fireside sofas where you are offered drinks and given the menus to browse, to the moment you leave. But what I found truly staggering was the bill! The meal including a drink each for my girlfriend and I was a little over £40 for the two of us!
Sadly we live 3 hours drive away or we would be coming back here regularly. We will definitive be returning however if we are ever in the area!
Best meal we’ve ever had in Norfolk.
We’ll be back.
Service, venue and of course food, all was perfect!
High quality food
Was a bit quiet on a lunchtime but We didn’t mind that
Will def go again
Very warm and cosy and we loved the sofa area, perfect for perusing the menu. The staff were very friendly but professional and the food was very very good.
Amazing food, amazing service and all profits go to an amazing cause feeding malnourished children. Our Sunday lunch will pay for 250 children to be fed. Meeting the owners and hearing about the charity was the icing on the cake of what was a fantastic birthday lunch. I really can’t recommend the Mermaids Slipper highly enough. You’ll be blown away!
Delightful, friendly, gorgeous food, a very pleasurable experience.
A lovely evening. Excellent cuisine, great value and all profits towards such a good cause. Superb menu of carefully thought out dishes. Thank you so much. We will be back soon as we’ve just had one of the best meals out ever
We shall definitely be going back - it was very good- much better than expected. Nice ambience, knowledgable front of house and great service.
We eat out regularly and have just turned 60!...but this was the best meal we have ever had in any country - absolutely top draw.
The food was superb. The best roast I've had anywhere!
We were rather disappointed at being rather squashed into a corner in the smaller room. When we asked if it was possible to be moved to the larger room we were told that it was not possible as they were very busy. However, the other room was empty at the time and few customers came in during our meal. When we left about 1 and a 1/2 hours later there were very few diners in the other room.
Being asked to take a seat when you enter, rather than giving the choice to go to your table, rather obligates you to order a pre-dinner drink. You would feel embarrassed to refuse.
Excellent service, friendly warm and welcoming. Amazing value.
Place, food and staff excellent, the only query we would like to make regarding the final bill ? We were surprised to find 20% per cent added to the bill, which does not show on any menu. Never experienced this in other restaurants ??
Our Anniversary meal, and also the day my wife gave up work
Went there for Sunday lunch
I had the Pork Belly which was delicious, husband had the sirloin which he loved. Exceptional food with ample servings of vegetables. Staff were very attentive and friendly. Will definelty return.
Beautiful decor. really friendly and helpful staff. wonderful Sunday lunch.
