The Miller Of Mansfield
Are you stuck for a true foodie experience and a warm welcome? Hello.
We like to think that eating out is still a ‘treat’ and something worth savouring. Combining refined modern British food in our informal and friendly inn with individually styled bedrooms, we're no gastro pub. More a restaurant with rooms that has an ancient cosy bar with open fires, a substantial gin selection and well cared for beers.
So if you're stuck for a rural retreat that’s easy to get to, hot on its food, with a serious cellar and perfect for that night or two away from it all. You need the modern inn.
About an hour from Paddington, Goring & Streatley train station is a 5 minute walk, downhill to The Miller. See you soon.

A very nice dinner on a Monday evening when it's generally very quiet and it's the chef's day off but it all worked very well. A good menu with ample choice and the food didn't disappoint. It's not the cheapest of restaurants but good value and worth it. The wine list is reasonably priced and long enough so there's something for all tastes and budgets. The service wasn't 100% as there seemed to be one or two trainees but they tried hard enough and that didn't detract from the experience. It was our second visit and we'll come again and happy to recommend it to anyone.
We were greeted very nicely by Anne. The day was very wet and cold. It would of been lovely to of had the fire lit in the restaurant and some lower main lighting & candle light on the tables would give more ambience day and night . It was cold in the restaurant. The food was fabulous very high quality but very small portion sizes and not enough pudding choices. Value for money for the amount you get on your plate could be far better. We left hungry & cold. The young lady serving us was new and did very well but forgot about things we had asked for such as bar menus, jug of water, we were left for some time, tomato ketchup turned up instead of mayonnaise which we asked 3 times for. Not a good first impression. The gentleman serving was excellent. No Worcester sauce available in the whole pub to go with our tomato juice was also disappointing.
This is the 2nd time that we have visited The Miller and have not been disappointed. Food and service excellent and most appropriate for my wife's birthday celebration. We both look forward to visit no 3!
Really enjoyed the food - although would have liked to have been able to order starters from the set price lunch menu and paid for them separately to ‘mix and match’ with the bar menu.
Lovely pub, cosy real fire and attentive service.
The guinea-fowl ravioli was excellent: a nice gamy flavour with a mild and highly-agreeable kick in the sauce. Hake and pork belly to follow was sumptuous, with delicious winter veg. Bread pudding soaking in berries was a fine way to finish. The wine list is manageable but very interesting. The staff were wonderful: attentive but never intrusive. Excellent value and highly recommended.
We stayed at the hotel for one night and chose to eat there too. We found the service to be quite slow given it was quite a quiet Saturday evening, but everyone who served us was really lovely and clearly hardworking, so it wasn't a big enough issue for us to mention.
The food was good but not as good as I expected. I felt they aimed high and didn't quite make it, resulting in dishes that didn't quite work. We were also quite surprised at the final price, finding it to be quite expensive.
Lovely atmosphere and staff though. Thank you.
The restaurant is tastefully decorated but we were held in the bar area before we could sit down. Even if the restaurant was ready to serve it would have been nice to sit down with a drink. Our order was incorrect so not ideal as one person had to eat a meal that they didn’t order. The food was tasty but sparse as extras had to be ordered on the side. The desserts didn’t really offer a good range so we didn’t order more than a couple for the whole table. Waiting staff ranged from indifferent to very attentive depending who served you. Had to ask for drink three times before it was delivered from the bar. Overall food was tasty but selection limited; service mediocre overall and very pricey.
Excellent service, even provided a complimentary starter for apparently no other reason than they decided to! Great food, and all round pleasant experience! Thank you
we ate here both nights of a very pleasant stay at the Inn. The tasting menu was stunning and we really enjoyed the wine flight as well. On the second night the a la carte was exceptional. Portion sizes fine. The is a place to go if you want to pay for good food. Please don't expect huge portions especially with the tasting menu but there are enough dishes on it to fill you up! The service was extremely friendly and attentive. Loved the experience!
Second time we've eaten here and it only gets better.
Service and food are the best I've had, will be coming again very soon.
Being foodies, we had high expectations. The food was of a high quality but somehow it didn’t blow us away. It aspired to something but didn’t quite hit the mark. We ordered our mains but the waiter failed to advise us to order sides which meant we ended up with a bit of fish and some vegetables which looked like a snack on a plate rather than a winter evening meal.
Nice location and ambiance. Casually smart. I wouldn’t recommend it or not. Personally not a place I would go out of my way to return to
Wonderful lunch, great value at £22.50 for three delicious courses. I would highly recommend.
Lovely food and great service! I would definitely recommend eating here
Great food with attentive staff. Plenty of options on the menu and left feeling very satisfied.
Quite a nice dinner experience, food was very good quality.
The restaurant has a nice atmosphere, is cozy and well laid out, the decor and lighting pleasant. Wonderful menu, something for everyone and dishes compliment each other. Nice pre starters and we also enjoyed the homemade macaroons! Wine menu has everything you need too. Presentation and portion sizes were excellent, more choice of side orders would enhance the experience and a better presentation of the very tasty cheese board. The service was friendly and attentive, albeit as it got busier this may become more difficult to maintain. We had a lovely evening and meal, and will be back! Thank you
We had a pescatarian tasting menu which the restaurant were very obliging in providing. The food was fantastic; very carefully conceived and presented, and delicious.
It is a really good location, great ambience, efficient friendly staff and great service. However apart from the Brill which was delicious, the remainder of the food was average. I had high expectations and unfortunately it did not live up to these. The above average prices did not align with the quality of the food received. Valiant attempts where clear but the result fell short.
Stunning flavours, wonderful choices and the most delicious Sunday lunch - we sat in the Courtyard at the Miller on a gloriously sunny day ... beautiful presentation and excellent (and not intrusive at all) service from the staff. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect birthday lunch for my daughter (who works in the food world and appreciates all that The Miller has to offer).
Excellent service and hospitality from the barman, the manager, servers and the chef. We were made to feel very welcome and excellent advice regarding choice of wine for the various courses.
The food was more expensive than expected and remained that way after the meal
one of the best meals I have eaten. I would recommend a visit
Came here on a busy Friday evening, after we made a spontaneous booking earlier in the day. The food was wonderful food and service excellent. The wild brill was a highlight!
A beautiful ploughman's lunch enjoyed by us both. Bacon butter outstanding. We shall return for the evening menu. Thankyou
Very impressive dinner. Slightly understaffed on the evening but we were still looked after very well. The homemade bread, variety of butters and starters were delicious.
Will definitely go back and recommend to anyone staying locally
The breakfast is outstanding and very good value with the bed and breakfast deal
Please see my email which I sent after my visit on Monday.
Had great expectations but was disappointed in the food and service.
Nick has superb ability introducing and extracting flavours which turn great dishes into truly memorable ones. First class food!
We had a really nice Sunday lunch sat in the courtyard. The food we had ordered was excellent, and we were pleasantly surprised by the additional tasting experiences at the beginning and end of the meal.
My only comment would be that it would be good to have something to keep a carafe of wine cold, and maybe the main courses arrived a little quickly. That said when the food is this good those two things seem a bit picky! Thanks very much.
Lovely village by the river, awkward location with very limited parking, Sunday lunch very average and expensive for what it was - very overcooked roast potatoes, hard and lacked any flavour, beef good but the Yorkshire Pudding was a case of something wrong in the kitchen - overcooked with a very oily aftertaste, good service from well trained staff but this was not a memorable Sunday lunch and we would not choose to go back - perhaps we were just unlucky because other reviews are very good. So they tried hard but did not deliver this time round so hence the "average" overall rating.
We enjoyed a lovely evening meal here. The food was excellent and good value for money and the service was friendly and helpful. If we are ever in Goring again we will definitely be back.
great service great food been here quite a few times and love it. a gem in goring.
The Miller of Mansfield acceeded our expectations above and beyond.
As we were also staying at the hotel, we had our young son and chocolate lab with us. The WiFi in the building was a strong enough signal that it allowed us to pop our son to sleep in his cot in our room whilst we had our meal and watched him on the baby CCTV we have for him.
We were seated in the room just off from the bar were dogs are able to dine with guests.
We had the perfect spot for such a beautiful warm evening. Right in the window with a beautiful view and breeze.
The appetisers blew our taste buds away; but we especially loved and indulged in the salted butter and smoked whipped butter in the warm bread we was served.
We both enjoyed a superb starter and main and were both rather full come dessert. Luckily there was nothing that particularly took our fancy.
Service was fantastic, we wasn't rushed at all but equally felt attended too at all times and we now felt to fortunate to have had the dog with us now as the main restaurant looked very hot and also it was like we had our own private dining experience where we was seated.
5 star review from us and we will definitely be back!
Everything was lovely in the courtyard garden until 2 real oafs/inconsiderate young men came out and held noisy, offensive phone (lots of banter swearing) conversations whilst vaping. At least 3 tables including ours were forced to move inside.
Attentive and friendly staff serving up the most delicious food in an atmospheric pub located in a quaint English village. Would highly recommend to everyone.
Excellent starters, however ordered beef which cost over £30 and came with about 5 chips.
Was all good and we were well looked after. A little on the pricey side but not so bad
Lovely food. Great place and good staff. We will deffinatley be visiting again
The food here is really very good, imaginative and well executed . The service however is dreadful especially for a restaurant of such reputation and fine dining. Arriving at out table we had to wait approx 30 mins before we could order a drink and that was after we reminded them ! Ordering took an hour and delivery was so slow, a 7.45pm reservation and we were still waiting for our main course at 10pm having reminded them once . The waiting staff were all very young and seemed very in experienced . Sadly its that memory rather than the wonderful food that will stick with us . Shame .
Two of our party had the Miller Ploughman's ... they loved them!!! Such delicious food on the wooden platter (so attractively presented), real variety of meats and pickles, warm bread and flavoursome butter. One of us had the duck liver parfait with a new side salad - samphire and asparagus, which she said was excellent. Two of us had the seafood cocktail with a side of smoked almonds and comté cheese ... perfect! We had wine and water, Seedlip too ... a round table ... the whole lunch was so lovely.
