The Miller Of Mansfield
Are you stuck for a true foodie experience and a warm welcome? Hello.
We like to think that eating out is still a ‘treat’ and something worth savouring. Combining refined modern British food in our informal and friendly inn with individually styled bedrooms, we're no gastro pub. More a restaurant with rooms that has an ancient cosy bar with open fires, a substantial gin selection and well cared for beers.
So if you're stuck for a rural retreat that’s easy to get to, hot on its food, with a serious cellar and perfect for that night or two away from it all. You need the modern inn.
About an hour from Paddington, Goring & Streatley train station is a 5 minute walk, downhill to The Miller. See you soon.

It is a really good location, great ambience, efficient friendly staff and great service. However apart from the Brill which was delicious, the remainder of the food was average. I had high expectations and unfortunately it did not live up to these. The above average prices did not align with the quality of the food received. Valiant attempts where clear but the result fell short.
Stunning flavours, wonderful choices and the most delicious Sunday lunch - we sat in the Courtyard at the Miller on a gloriously sunny day ... beautiful presentation and excellent (and not intrusive at all) service from the staff. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect birthday lunch for my daughter (who works in the food world and appreciates all that The Miller has to offer).
Excellent service and hospitality from the barman, the manager, servers and the chef. We were made to feel very welcome and excellent advice regarding choice of wine for the various courses.
The food was more expensive than expected and remained that way after the meal
one of the best meals I have eaten. I would recommend a visit
Came here on a busy Friday evening, after we made a spontaneous booking earlier in the day. The food was wonderful food and service excellent. The wild brill was a highlight!
A beautiful ploughman's lunch enjoyed by us both. Bacon butter outstanding. We shall return for the evening menu. Thankyou
Very impressive dinner. Slightly understaffed on the evening but we were still looked after very well. The homemade bread, variety of butters and starters were delicious.
Will definitely go back and recommend to anyone staying locally
The breakfast is outstanding and very good value with the bed and breakfast deal
Please see my email which I sent after my visit on Monday.
Had great expectations but was disappointed in the food and service.
Nick has superb ability introducing and extracting flavours which turn great dishes into truly memorable ones. First class food!
We had a really nice Sunday lunch sat in the courtyard. The food we had ordered was excellent, and we were pleasantly surprised by the additional tasting experiences at the beginning and end of the meal.
My only comment would be that it would be good to have something to keep a carafe of wine cold, and maybe the main courses arrived a little quickly. That said when the food is this good those two things seem a bit picky! Thanks very much.
Lovely village by the river, awkward location with very limited parking, Sunday lunch very average and expensive for what it was - very overcooked roast potatoes, hard and lacked any flavour, beef good but the Yorkshire Pudding was a case of something wrong in the kitchen - overcooked with a very oily aftertaste, good service from well trained staff but this was not a memorable Sunday lunch and we would not choose to go back - perhaps we were just unlucky because other reviews are very good. So they tried hard but did not deliver this time round so hence the "average" overall rating.
We enjoyed a lovely evening meal here. The food was excellent and good value for money and the service was friendly and helpful. If we are ever in Goring again we will definitely be back.
great service great food been here quite a few times and love it. a gem in goring.
The Miller of Mansfield acceeded our expectations above and beyond.
As we were also staying at the hotel, we had our young son and chocolate lab with us. The WiFi in the building was a strong enough signal that it allowed us to pop our son to sleep in his cot in our room whilst we had our meal and watched him on the baby CCTV we have for him.
We were seated in the room just off from the bar were dogs are able to dine with guests.
We had the perfect spot for such a beautiful warm evening. Right in the window with a beautiful view and breeze.
The appetisers blew our taste buds away; but we especially loved and indulged in the salted butter and smoked whipped butter in the warm bread we was served.
We both enjoyed a superb starter and main and were both rather full come dessert. Luckily there was nothing that particularly took our fancy.
Service was fantastic, we wasn't rushed at all but equally felt attended too at all times and we now felt to fortunate to have had the dog with us now as the main restaurant looked very hot and also it was like we had our own private dining experience where we was seated.
5 star review from us and we will definitely be back!
Everything was lovely in the courtyard garden until 2 real oafs/inconsiderate young men came out and held noisy, offensive phone (lots of banter swearing) conversations whilst vaping. At least 3 tables including ours were forced to move inside.
Attentive and friendly staff serving up the most delicious food in an atmospheric pub located in a quaint English village. Would highly recommend to everyone.
Excellent starters, however ordered beef which cost over £30 and came with about 5 chips.
Was all good and we were well looked after. A little on the pricey side but not so bad
Lovely food. Great place and good staff. We will deffinatley be visiting again
The food here is really very good, imaginative and well executed . The service however is dreadful especially for a restaurant of such reputation and fine dining. Arriving at out table we had to wait approx 30 mins before we could order a drink and that was after we reminded them ! Ordering took an hour and delivery was so slow, a 7.45pm reservation and we were still waiting for our main course at 10pm having reminded them once . The waiting staff were all very young and seemed very in experienced . Sadly its that memory rather than the wonderful food that will stick with us . Shame .
Two of our party had the Miller Ploughman's ... they loved them!!! Such delicious food on the wooden platter (so attractively presented), real variety of meats and pickles, warm bread and flavoursome butter. One of us had the duck liver parfait with a new side salad - samphire and asparagus, which she said was excellent. Two of us had the seafood cocktail with a side of smoked almonds and comté cheese ... perfect! We had wine and water, Seedlip too ... a round table ... the whole lunch was so lovely.
Delicious as ever! Sunday roast is fantastic at the Miller. The starters are incredible and of course excellent service!
Had a wonderful night at the Miller of Mansfield. We had booked a table to take my son out for his Birthday. Unfortunately my wife was ill so we had to change the booking. which was no problem. The food was excellent, but it was the service I was most impressed with the Staff new the menu and what the ingredients were and overall I thought it was excellent value.
Great service, VERY friendly, delicious food and beer
Everybody was helpful and friendly and the food exceptional.
Great food and excellent service
The tiniest portion, no suggestion to order side dishes, vastly overpriced. Very disappointing. We were so hungry after our meal we had to go eat another meal somewhere else.
Loved it Staff excellent
Sunday lunch - pork belly was delicious 😋 veg was excellent- broccoli with hazelnuts, green beans with miso and carrots with honey and aniseed. Roast potatoes were better than home made. All washed down with an excellent Merlot. I can’t wait to return!
Fabulous food. It was our second time and will definitely be back again.
We were greeted as we drew up as someone noticed one person was disabled. We were shown to a parking space by the hotel
The service was excellent. The food imaginative and delicious
We would highly recommend The Miller
Two of us had a delicious working lunch devouring nettle gnocchi and a rather special Ploughman’s. We had time and room for dessert too so indulged in a very fresh rhubarb tart and classically divine sticky toffee with a particularly yummy homemade ice cream.
It was easy to find and park nearby, a pleasant atmosphere and very welcoming besides ultimately delicious.
Excellent food, albeit rather pricey! Mains are all more than £21 which is quite expensive, given that it really is a pub with a restaurant. Not in London either!
Exceptional food and a lovely ambience. Definitely worth a trip to visit
One of the most enjoyable meals out we have had for some considerable time. The food was exceptional and the superb staff made this a memorable evening that we look forward to repeating soon. The Miller of Mansfield is in a class of its own and reflects the dedication and professionalism of everyone involved.
Our first time there on the recommendation of friends...however what we did not realise is that the a la carte menu is not available at lunchtime which we did not know (I couldnt see that it said this on the website either), so was slightly disappointed with the range of food on offer. However what we did have was lovely, the service was great and liked the ambiance. Obviously we need to go for dinner in order to sample a wider range on the menu...loved the venison sausage roll and brown sauce though!!
The food on this occasion wasn't quite up to the standard we are used to at The Miller. Specifically the vegetables were dry and slightly overcooked.
However we will still book for a future meal.
Good location in the heart of Goring near its riverside. The service was timely and attentive. Each course was very tasty and in good proportions. We were even given complimentary nibbles and surprise macaroons for my birthday this week. Would recommend this friendly restaurant and will visit again.
