Fantastic food, relaxing and friendly atmosphere. We were able to bring our dogs with us as well which was great as we were staying at a cottage in the village. Highly recommended
The early bird menu is excellent value, and the choice is changed regularly. The staff are pleasant and efficient.
From the second we arrived until the second we left the customer service was superb. Courteous cheery staff pampered to our every whim.
All 3 courses were sublime and wonderfully presented on their respective plates/dishes. Food good enough to eat and savour.
The Cook n Barker owners could learn a lot by eating here!
Food when it came was very good. However 3 of us had the hake dish which should have included Shetland mussels, according to the menu. No mussels, which was a disappointment to the 3 of us who originate from Shetland.
Fortunately we weren't in a hurry as the service was very slow. The waitress did apologise for this. Guessing the kitchen was short staffed that night.
Good food, great location and friendly service.
We return to the Northumberland Arms every time we visit Northumberland. We have always had a delicious meal with friendly staff, good service and lovely surroundings and also dog friendly. Thank you.
Have visited several times over the past few years and the standards have never dropped. Always a friendly and efficient service and the food quality and cooking is excellent. We'll worth our longctrip to get here.
Really lovely place. Delicious food, and friendly service. Seafood platter was lovely and they even gave a treat and some water to our dog. Would definitely go back.
Service let down the very good food. Ordered bread and olives from the menu then told there were no olives. Waitress surprised to be asked for a plate to eat the bread off. Needs to be a restaurant manager to oversee the dining room but short-staffed, no doubt to save money as too many restaurants do.
The food as always was excellent and the early bird menu was outstanding value.
Sunday lunch here was fantastic. Food and service are great and very good value for money. First of many I'm sure.
Excellent service. Lovely breakfast. Worth the drive
We visited whilst on holiday in August, we have been to this restaurant before and had enjoyed our meal. To be honest it felt really snooty and extremely overpriced... The steak I ordered (rare) was cooked rare however was extremely chewy that 3/4 of it was inedible. It came with a small pot of chips, a small mushroom and tomato and a pot of apparently blue cheese sauce.... I mentioned to the waitress that the steak was inedible.... her reply was what would you like me to do.... Not particularly great customer service.... I thought they would've replaced the steak in the end I just had the chips and sauce... they did remove the steak from the bill but not the blue cheese sauce... To be honest I've bought better steaks at Aldi costing me less than 3 pounds.... a very disappointing end to our holiday in Northumberland...
Good quality food and low prices (steak night!)
A great find on a wet Sunday afternoon, food was absolutely delicious and the service was great, would highly recommend this place
We all enjoyed our meal very much and the service was very good. Only disappointment was one of the three scoops of homemade sorbet. The strawberry was ice cream, not sorbet , and it did not taste homemade.
The Falafel were absolutely delicious.
Had a great meal on Weds, was a new menu but everything was delicious, thoroughly recommend.
Visiting family and wanted a good Sunday Lunch......we weren't disappointed!!
Great food well served a very enjoyable and relaxed meal.
Excellent place, fantastic food staff can’t do enough for you
Very highly reccomended
Although the roast beef was delicious, the yorkshire pudding was overcooked and only 2 small chewy potatoes with the veg did not make the meal worth the price I paid. At the end of the lunch and after receiving the bill, there was no sign of any staff to pay it, so had to leave cash on the table. Very disappointed
Excellent food. Service spot on. Sat in the bar area, lovely relaxed atmosphere. Can’t wait for my next visit.
Totally unexpected, the food and presentation was absolutely amazing !!!! Staff were fantastic too,had a brilliant night
The four of us all had tasty and well presented meals. Two steaks cooked as requested, Pan Haggerty which was a first time of trying and a hit and lamb wellington which disappeared quite quickly! We found the actual table a little squashed for the size of plates and flowers/salt&pepper tray, drink glasses etc. So I moved somethings off to an adjacent window sill. However, that didn’t stop us enjoying the dining experience. The staff were efficient and questioned we had all we wanted without being intrusive, so great.
The food and service was fabulous will definitely be returning again for Sunday lunch!
Had a lovely meal to celebrate our sons graduation from Newcastle University, lovely meal and great service. We always enjoy going to the Northumberland Arms, puddings superb.
Booked for Sunday lunch, table was ready and we were served quickly with a delicious roast beef dinner and all the trimmings followed by a heavenly strawberry cheesecake, ate here many times always excellent food and staff are friendly and helpful highly recommended thank you.
Faultless yet again!
Not sure about pickled red cabbage on a Sunday Dinner!
Also, the beef was quite "chewy"
Lovely food with nice staff. The layout of tables is staggered throughout the ground floor, some areas seem nicer to sit in than others. It may be worth specifying where you want to sit when booking.
Excellent food but a little slow in service. Best to book if going at weekends
Friendly staff and good food; however overall very disappointing. Booking on Open table we expected a table in the dining room but were told that we had a table in the bar. We had to find this ourselves, and get our own cutlery from a basket on the table. We waited 45 minutes after the booked time for someone to bring a menu, the choice was limited. The starter was "plonked on a bare table 30 minutes later. We had to ask for a wine list, no one returned to take the order and so had to stand at the bar for 10 minutes to order the wine which was poor for £25. All of this would have been acceptable if it had been a bar meal, but at the price tag of over £90 for two starters, two mains and a bottle of wine it was very disappointing, most particularly as we had a better visit in December.
Hi we came for Sunday lunch and had Been recommended this place by a number of customers but have found other local pubs to be better. The potato’s were inedible and we all struggled to cut our meat as knives were not sharp enough and meat was hard ( pork) or stringy ( beef) and my whole family didn’t enjoy the red cabbage as it was too sweet for us all and Yorkshire puddings were very greasy.
I am a cook myself and eat out a lot so maybe we are more particular than most.
In all if it had of just been one of us unhappy then I would have ignored it but all of us didn’t really enjoy it.
As usual, the service and food were excellent. From being shown to our table by the ever present Katy to taking of drinks order, food order and cleaning of the table, the service was very impressive. The quality of the food is always very high indeed
We booked here for my parents golden wedding anniversary as we were on holiday in the area. I was in contact with staff on the build up to the day to make some arrangements for the celebration dinner and they couldn’t more helpful. We were also running late on the day due to traffic on our journey and again staff couldn’t have been more helpful and put us at ease about it by changing our booking to give us more time. The food was excellent - both my husband and dad said it was the best pork belly they had ever had! The service was great. My family had a truly fantastic time celebrating here. Thank you The Northumberland Arms for helping to make it so special.
Characterful restaurant in a interesting location, so we often bring visitors to The Northumberland Arms for a meal. Menu helps, by including some local dishes and ingredients. Food delicious, and pub atmosphere great (during our last visit there was live acoustic music, with a local emphasis). Service was polite and energetic, but let the side down a touch (waitress forgot 1 drink order and got a second wrong; unskilled at clearing table). These were minor things, but when the food & environment are special, why provide an ordinary service?
Lovely meal at a lovely country pub with great service
Really popular for Sunday lunch and I understand why. Beautiful food and lovely surroundings! We stayed over too, perfect!
Sunday lunch at this wonderful establishment for the second time in so many weeks. Three generations that can't always agree as to where to dine have no such problem reaching a sunday lunch destination consensus. Good service, great food, happy family.
Lovely pub. Great interior. Food was well presented and delicious.
Took a little while for menus to be brought over, but other than that service from our waitress was outstanding. Really friendly especially with our little girl, who she went and got a cushion for so she was a bit higher up at the table, and made her laugh by interacting with her, lovely lady. Pudding was the highlight for me, Creme Brulee was perfect.
One of the best Sunday lunches that we have had in a long time
