Country pub. Sunday lunch was a limited menu of primarily roasts. Large if a little over excessive portion sizes. Potatoes could have been crispy and no crackling with the pork and had to ask specially for apple sauce. Veg nicely cooked al dente and meat portions very generous. Friendly staff.
A no frills classic Sunday roast.
Looks like the pub has new owners, as it was much quieter than when we had been there previously. The starters took an age to arrive, but when they did they were good. The main meal was disappointing, with the beef on two of the four meals tough and under cooked. The manager explained that they had a new chef and reduced the drinks bill (removed the cost of a bottle of wine and some of the beers) and removed one of the mains from the bill. Overall a disappointing experience, as we expected the high level of food and ambience experienced previously.
It looks like it has changed owners and lost a lot of its very tentative service and food has dropped in quality, especially the kids menu
Nice pub with good food and excellent attentie service. A fee of the main courses had run out but there still was a good selection .
Looks like a nice pub from the pictures but the food was not better than adequate for not cheap prices. The egg on top of the gammon had obviously been kept warm for a while and was set hard and there were only a few chips! Why would you scrimp on such a cheap item? The burger rolls were dry and the burgers were okay but not good. The staff were pleasant enough but I would expect much higher quality food for the price. Had better in roadside cafes! We went there because they allow dogs but would never go again!
Mid week meal with husband. Nice looking but fairly limited menu..and they didn't have 4 main items on it! (Lamb, fish cakes, gammon, steak and kidney pie). So not much else to choose from. Food tasty and service good. But need to sort food ordering out! Kitchen had been closed for 2 days before (planned) so no excuses really.
Great place, we go often with our children and dog, however they had run out of various options on the menu, this has happened on previous occasions too. Very family friendly.
We visited on a Friday for lunch. Very friendly warm reception from the staff. Menu is great with plenty of variety but most pub classics covered. Food was served quickly, decent portion sizes and all tasted great. We had a lovely time and will definitely return.
Great find. The food was good quality and service was great. Kids meals were freshly made.
We held a private reunion in the pub with karaoke later. The staff were great and the whole event a tremendous success; Good pub food. Great service. Will definitely go again.
First time I’ve had dinner here and I had a great evening! It was a quiet evening in terms of customers, service was great and food was delicious. Will definitely be returning!
Four of us went for Sunday lunch. We all liked our roast dinners and the quantity was more than adequate. The puddings were good but not quite to the standard of the main course. Service was excellent and extra gravy was offered without having to ask. A pleasant ambience with a nice buzz without being too loud. Would recommend the Oaks and will visit again.
8 of us had lunch for my mothers 81st birthday. Starters were lovely and some of the mains, however, the beef was rather tough for the elderly at the table. Free coffees were given to those who ordered beef. The pub was busy and we did go later in the afternoon, so it could have been that the beef was sitting around for a long time. All in all, we had a nice time.
Lovely evening at The Oaks. Great choices on the menu. The food we ordered was fantastic- and there was a 2 for 1 meal deal on a Monday night which made it even better value. The desserts were delicious. Service was prompt and friendly. Nice atmosphere. Lovely staff. Will definitely recommend and go back soon!
We found the quality of the food on offer to be below standard. The Sunday roast (chicken) was somewhat meagre in size, the roast potatoes were poor and the Yorkshire pudding tough. The vegetables just about passed muster, although there was not enough of them.
The pub and restaurant was busy and there were not enough serving staff, so service was slow. We waited so long to order our dessert that in the end we didn’t bother.
Overall a very disappointing experience and not up to its Trip Advisor ratings.
Lovely food and good service. Staff were very helpful and efficient. Lovely atmosphere.
Very good food, attentive staff, reasonable prices, and good location. A central meeting point for friends coming from neighbouring counties - we would definitely come again.
Lovely pub for a nice birthday Sunday lunch, good value for money was less that £20 for a three course meal and plenty of choice and good selection. Nice food and a good atmosphere. The staff are always polite and nice. Was great service too. Lovely open fire burning which made it nice and cosy in Winter. Nice seating area outside which has recently been done up for sitting out in the summer.
Took my parents & other half here for dinner last Thursday looking for a nice pub meal & this totally hit the spot. Meat was fresh from the butchers & dad said the steak was very good, high praise from him! Haddock special & fish n chips both got the thumbs up & my steak & stilton pie was one of the nicest pies I've had. Homemade deserts were great too. We were told microwave has no place in their kitchen, which was evident from the food! If you're want a quality, good value pub meal then hard to fault, every plate went back totally empty, highly recommend. Service too was superb!
Nice friendly pub atmosphere close to M25 junction 17
The staff were very polite and helpful. The actual
Pub looked as though it could do with sprucing up. The food was disappointing - the roast dinner was quite poor. The meat was a little tough and the Yorkshire pudding hard. Not enough to complain about but unfortunately sufficient to prevent a return visit
This was one of the poorest meals I have had out in a long while matched with bad service would never go back
Really good and tasty no-nonsense Sunday lunch. Special mention for great roasties. Service was nice and there was a good beer, wine and gin selection.
I use The Oaks frequently due to food ambience and service. A nice friendly pub and also dog friendly. The coy carp is my local but I would rather use the oaks.
Good value Sunday lunch very enjoyable
Had a very nice, good value lunch from the lunch menu. Food was very nice.
Visited for Sunday lunch - good selection, great Sunday Roasts and fantastic value 2 or 3 course menu. Lovely friendly staff and efficient service. Great cosy family friendly pub - look forward to visiting again soon!
Booking was remote on line and carried out efficiently .
When I approached the bar the staff knew where we should sit .
They took a lead from us throughout.
There was no rush and the Oaks was just what we wanted .
we will be back in August.
Lovely food. Lovely service. Good find. Will definitely return and recommend to others.
Lovely steak meal cooked to perfection. Was a little annoyed when my choice of starter was not available but had chicken wings which were delicious. Quite pricey but don't mind paying for well cooked and presented food. Could do with a bit more variety on menus but overall very happy and the atmosphere is great as was the service.
Lovely staff, lovely food, lovely decor. The only thing that let it down was having football blearing out in one ear and music in the other whilst trying to have Dinner with my partner. Have one on or the other, but definitely not football on a Saturday evening!
Good food ,atmosphere & decors. Promotional pie deal with bottle of wine is good & fish and chips freshly cooked.
Super venue for a pre-Christmas family meet up. Everyone enjoyed their meals, we had laughs, a roaring fire and friendly staff. Free parking and the kids could play (just need more kids equipment for better days outside).
certainly will come again as we were made to feel very welcome.
Had a lovely Sunday lunch for four people including a four year old. Food excellent as was the service. Nice atmosphere. Very welcoming. Highly recommend.
The restuarant was cosy and the staff were very helpful. They had run shirt of one item and as it was my wedding anniversary they gave us a free dessert platter, which was delicious .
friendly helpful staff, nice atmosphere, nice food, good value
Standard pub food in a nice setting
We thought we would try the Oaks following the reviews and we were really glad we did. The service was just right and the food excellent and served piping hot. I had the lamb which was perfectly cooked pink in the middle and very tender and tasty.
Gone down hill markedly since change of management. Disinterested staff, poorer quality meat, over cooked. Warm Sunday lunchtime, half empty whereas before it would have been full. Sad.
Went to the Oaks for Sunday Lunch with my Husband. We booked a table online and the table was ready for us when we arrived. We were served drinks fairly quickly but it took awhile for our waiter to come back and take our food order. We ordered 2 roast dinners which were lovely. Meat was cooked perfectly and the portions were very generous. One of the best roasts I've had. We will definately return and would thoroughly recommend.
