Having lived near Canterbury for 21 years we had never visited The Coach and Horses and now we’ve been twice in as many weeks. Just a lovely venue. We sat indoors the first time and enjoyed Tapas, cocktails and wine. The food is lovely. The next time we started off on the outside terrace, had a meal (the cheesy garlic baguette is highly recommended),then moved to the ground floor outside bar areas to finish the evening with a couple of cocktails. Gorgeous espresso martinis! The staff are very friendly and welcoming and attentive, service is wonderful. We will definitely be visiting again. Thank you to all the staff that made it such a pleasurable experience the both times we have visited, we cannot wait to come back.
Food was very tasty but too much for me to eat. Very good service and overall enjoyable.
Just somewhere to have lunch while in Canterbury
Excellent food , very friendly well presented, would definitely return
Having lived in Canterbury for 21 years, this was our first time at Coach & Horses. Service was great, food delicious, friendly staff. We will definitely be going back
Good range of light meals as well as more traditional fare.
Amazing experience, staff were very attentive, overall an excellent service and beautiful place
Great service and good food.
A quiet spot to soak up the sun and enjoy a glass as the sun sets.
Small menu selection but all very tasty and arrived in timely fashion and good value.
Lovely cocktails and great outdoor seating to meet for drinks and catch up with friends and family -vast amounts of outdoor seating which is a rare find in Canterbury.
Will be back.
Roast was cold
Tasteless and boring
Service was ok ..
Coffees cold and given wrong milk
Probably the best al fresco option in Canterbury, they’ve transformed the outdoor space here. Highly recommended.
Lovely lunch on the terrace. Staff super helpful and food was delicious.
Absolute amazing food with amazing service all staff are lovely and a great pub just on the edge of Canterbury which is perfect lovely garden, the pub is suitable for everyone including dogs.
Service pretty bad and waited half an hour to order! We were told that orders taken in order of arrival. However the table next to us that arrived 10 minutes after us had their order taken before us! We had to call out to the member of staff to take our order as he was leaving with theirs! They seemed to be regulars so guessed that was why! After delivering our meal nobody returned to take a drinks or dessert order. Requested condiments for fish and chips but they were never delivered. After waiting in vain we went down to pay the bill. We mentioned the poor service but they were not really interested.
Top tier seating has nice view but it is very uncomfortable plus lots of steep steps! t’s unsurprising that the staff never came back to serve us!
We do t recommend the fish sharing platter or the fish and chips as it is all batter and little fish! Pork belly was v nice though.
We were celebrating 2 birthdays so left v disappointed.
Food, despite a reduced limited menu, (not as advertised), was disappointing and poorly cooked!
Restaurant seems to focus on Tapas now.
nice little out the way gem in the lovely village of harbledown . food and service were amazing and good value for money . Looking forward to going back and enjoying the garden when the weather picks up.
The menu had been trimmed down, but offered a good, balanced selection.
Service was excellent from the start and was continued throughout the meal.
I had the cod loin and chips, which was cooked perfectly and a portion size to challenge the healthiest of appetite!
My wife had the rib eye, which was cooked to medium rare perfectly and with the vine ripened tomatoes had tons of flavour even before the peppercorn sauce was added.
Deserts of profiteroles and chocolate brownie rounded off a lovely dinner.
A little gem for dining
Excellent food, good beer, light bites as a starter were surprisingly substantial, and roast lamb was very good. Lots of staff, registration on arrival was quick and easy (we'd booked), very attentive. Good value overall.
All fine - pleased we could be moved from outside to inside!
We’d been recommended the old coach and horses by friends but unfortunately were very disappointed. Our table was booked for 8:15pm. We had to wait around 20 minutes for our drinks order to be taken, and then for another waiter to come to take our food order. We were told that the kitchen closed at 8:30pm and we couldn’t order starters as the kitchen was very busy and all the food had to come at the same time and there was a long wait for food. Whilst we were waiting, we asked another waitress for some olives. She came back to our table a few minutes later and said unfortunately we couldn’t have olives because the chef was very busy and backed up with food orders. We weren’t offered bread or anything else as an alternative for the long wait. When our food arrived we were then watched closely by the quite tall dog who was wandering around. I love dogs and although a gorgeous creature, we didn’t want to be watched so closely (the dogs head as high as the table top) whilst we ate our food.
All in all a lovely looking pub in a great location, with excellent garden facilities for drinks in the sun, but disappointing service and restaurant set up. A shame as we were really looking forward to it based on what we’d heard, so perhaps we got them on a busy/bad day.
Great food, friendly service. Would recommend a visit
Brilliant place. Fantastic management. Would eat here again
Fairly disappointing experience here.
The food was quite greasy and under seasoned which was unfortunate.
It just felt very heavy and not prepared well. Anything fried should be crispy and almost airy, not soggy and wet soaked in oil.
Staff were nice but a bit too chaotic overall.
2nd visit in 2 weeks. Sunday lunch in the garden was perfect. You couldn’t have cooked it better yourself. Then lunch after a family event. Again, food was perfect on every level. Definitely be back for a 3rd & 4th visit.... and have already recommended it to friends. Thank you all at the OCH.
the staff were really friendly however we sat down and asked for 2 mins to decide on what to drink and no one came back to take our drinks order until 45 minutes later. We were then told that the kitchen shut ten mins ago so they would have to check if we can order food. Fortunately we were able to have food. The food was great and came really quickly! Would recommend but was just a shame about waiting so long to order a drink and food
Great place, staff friendly, excellent food, would recommend to friends
Lovely spot, great food, friendly staff. Thank you!
Lovely staff, fab rain cover, perfect set up, amazing food, relaxed atmosphere
Despite covid and restrictions and having to eat outside in inclement weather we had a really nice time. Food was good and prompt and service was excellent.
Very nice stepped garden behind for outdoor dining or drinks. Friendly waiting staff. Could do with some outdoor heaters.
Didn’t even get our table, was sat amongst a loud crowded group. Was told we would be moved multiple times but every time they sat someone new at our original table. Our drinks took at least half an hour and max an hour to receive. Was never offered any recompense or gratuity, will not be returning or recommending to anyone.
Food was really good, however service was very poor. Waited 30minutes for a glass of wine which I ended up cancelling and getting our bill. Such a shame as the food and way they have done the outdoor space is really good.
Great location, good food but let down by terrible service.
We turned up and someone was at the door asking for service at their table as no one had come out. We then waited a further 5 mins for someone of the front of house team to appear. We got taken to our table and was then asked what drinks we would like - so far an okay experience.
Then 10 minutes later one of the staff comes up and tells us he will be back to take our food order but he wouldn’t be back for 15 mins, 25 mins later he reappeared and took our order. Then our drinks appeared!! No apologies just an excuse that the bar was backed up.
The food came out in good time and was really good which helped save this place.
They need to work on the service for drinks and even asking if you would more or even checking if the food is ok.
Sadly can’t say I would rush back even though the pub is in a lovely location.
I phoned to advise we were delayed due to traffic and they kindly agreed to hold our table.
On arrival we were seated and orders taken. Food was excellent, generous portions enjoyed by all.
This is our go to when dropping daughter back to uni. We will be back!
Really lovely food , just a bit slow with our drinks yet food service was fast !
The best pub in Canterbury! Food is amazing and the new secret garden is the best.
Unfortunately this restaurant did not live up to my expectations. I booked this place for a friends birthday because of the website offering amazing views of the valley in Canterbury within a secret garden. We arrived there was no view, a few steps up to just a view the road and a few trees, far from what the website portrayed. I asked for gluten free options and was given soy sauce which is full of wheat. So wouldn’t advise anyone with allergies to visit. The only reason I didn’t give lower stars because of the amazing hospitality from the waitress Emily. If she hadn’t of been so lovely and kind we would have left before we ordered. The other waitress wasn’t as friendly, she didn’t make you feel welcome at all. Also the Food was greasy and expensive. Overall a disappointing experience. So I wouldn’t recommend or return. Please change the website details offering a view that is not there.
Amazing ambience! We were sat in our own booth with heaters and were surrounded by flowers and fairy lights. The service was quick and the waiting staff were outstanding - they were very friendly, polite and accommodating. Would definitely recommend!!
Lovely hidden gem! The outdoor dining covid experience in the wind was eventful and the staff made the most effort to make everyone comfortable. Would definitely come here again.
Great food, lovely cocktails, great atmosphere! Would definitely recommend.
Good pub, many waiters and waitresses who do a good job at keeping everyone happy. It might be a good idea to assign them to specific tables as this created a bit of confusion a few times (e.g. asking for our drinks order when this had already been made, or bringing us drinks that weren't for us). The plus side is that there was always someone to make sure we had everything we needed!
The food was good, the atmosphere was nice, and I should mention they did a very good job with their garden, which looks great! Overall a very good experience. Thank you!
