Not through open table as they had no record of the reservation and no space for us. A complete waste of a journey and energy. First time out with new baby so extra disappointing. No response from open table when complaint was made!
Went there Saturday night and the food has really gone down hill , we are regulars at this pub and the last twice we have been for food it hasn’t been great
Sunday evening not a great choice and currently trialing a new inventory system which isn’t working . No chips no pork no fish etc . Waiting Staff did a brilliant job in letting us now but awkward for them .
My meal was ok but other diners in group had undercooked potatoes and green beans, cauliflower cheese which was like mush We had to send back and had hardly any cheese, tough lamb and scallops which looked like they hadn’t seen a pan. Second time here, first time they didn’t have a lot of things I wanted on the menu. Won’t be coming again unfortunately as it’s local . On the plus side, the staff were great.

Great food, mixed service. A clear divide between the training and professionalism of some of the serving team - one lady in particular was fantastic, attentive and way ahead of the others, some who seemed more interested in flirting with each other and interrupting their colleagues who were in direct conversation with other customers. Food was very good regardless.
The menu is good and prices reasonable. The location is excellent. There is a good choice of drinks and local ales.
The disappointment was that dietary considerations were not adhered to probably from poor communication between the waiting staff and the kitchen in a busy Sunday like BCh service.
The problem however was promptly corrected when pointed out and a new plate was brought in within 8 minutes.
Food was good especially the steak but the chicken a little over cooked on this occasion.
Would go back again.
A satisfactory gastropub meal. Nice tasting duck liver pate, the chicken & leek pie tasted very good. Scallops were cooked well (they're often not). Pork belly, fish cakes and fried Brie all were nice.
Low point - The potato topping on the meat pie had a mealy, polenta texture that didn't impress.
Low low point - Portion sizes were too large, leaving no room for dessert. That's a basic error that is simple to fix and improves things to no end. Joel Robuchon served us 16 courses and there was space left for dessert. If you like eating to excess then this is a good thing. If you like eating a whole meal then maybe skip the starter.
Prices were good. 4 people (mix of Brits and Americans) with drinks, starter, main course and tip was 105 UK Pounds. This was less than I anticipated given the overall quality of the food.
If you enjoy fine dining and are in South Wales, this is not a bad option. With better portion sizes and a focus on food details this would be a no brainer.
We would return if in the same area.
