The Old House at Home
Ordered a ribeye steak with peppercorn sauce had the miss fortune of pouring it over my steak and chips to find it had the consistency of water when I complained at the bar the barman proudly said I’ve taken the sauce of the bill but it had spoilt my meal I heard loudly from the kitchen WHATS THE REFUND FOR so I paid the bill and left been going there on and off for 20 years buts that’s the last time gone down hill in my opinion I can spend £100 on a meal for my partner and I in better places said really as I travel from Bristol to go there as I loved the place
Everything was as expected from being greeted when we arrived, helpful when they were told we had brought a Birthday Cake.
Service with drinks and food was excellent.
Food was excellent even to the extent that they complied with requests from a vegetarian in our party with something other than the items on the menu.
Only small nuisance was from other very noisy customers who, luckily, left when we were about halfway through our meal.
I wish there was 6 stars not 5, but if there was 6 it should have been 7 😀 food was absolutely superb this place just gets better and better I’d like to thank all at the ole house at home once again for an outstanding meal, evening and your hospitality 🙂 just outstanding
Have visited many times and always enjoy my visits. Menu doesn’t change a great deal but always well cooked
Lovely evening for my daughters birthday. Staff were very friendly and efficient. Food was very nice. Definitely worth another visit.
Friendly pub good food and service value for money
Four excellent meals plus excellent beer; great service too. Just one drawback - it didn't spoil our evening too much but we could have done without the loud children and the whining dog. The latter was allowing to sit on bar stools, not overly healthy?
Lovely food at a good price, good service, great experience yet again. Only drawback was our table was immediately by the toilet access but that didn't detract too much from our lunch treat.
This was our first visit. The Northey is our local and we like it so we thought we'd give The Old House at Home a try. It was very quiet (Monday evening) but the atmosphere was welcoming and service excellent. We did consider having a steak but I thought those were really pricey so we chose something else. The rest of the menu seemed more reasonably priced, though without the specials (limited, presumably because it was a Monday) it would have been a bit unimaginative. The meal we chose, though, was lovely. It was a very enjoyable evening.
It's a lovely pub. The bedroom was lovely and very clean. We had a lovely meal in the evening.
We did have a lovely meal but my starter of baked Camembert was not cooked through but was quickly replaced and it was good.
I did have to eat my starter alone then, which isn’t very nice but besides that it was very good food.
Following a decision at 2pm to have a late lunch with my wife, I booked a table for 2.30pm online.
We arrived at 2.25pm where a reserved table near the fire was already laid waiting for us.
The member of staff was most attentive and we chose from the excellent £12.95 lunch menu.
My wife's gin and Fever Tree tonics were served in a large bowl type glass and I had a pint of Butcombe ale which was excellent.
The starter, which had to be cooked freshly, arrived quickly. The mains were also quick to come.
The offer in January also included a free dessert for which we requested a slight wait.
All of the food was delicious but I did wish I'd worn my extra stretchy trousers.
This was fantastic value for fantastic food and service.
I would recommend to anyone, and for us, a return visit has to be made.
Give it a try - just wish it was my local.
We had Sunday lunch at about 4.30pm. The roast beef was outstanding - probably the best roast dinner I have had in a pub. The beef was served pink and was so tender and delicious. The variety of vegetables was superb - all cooked well and not overcooked. It was a truly memorable meal and I am extremely fussy! My only piece of less positive feedback relates to the small children running around. They were quite distracting and somewhat spoilt the ambience of the pub.
Our roast dinner was absolutely fantastic. The beef and pork were both delicious. Service was very tentative and good, super lovely staff. We had a bit of a wait for our food to arrive but it was so worth it and it was packed out with diners so I think they actually did a grand job. The food was clearly cooked to order as it was so fresh and tasty. The best roast dinner we have eaten out in years. Well done to your chefs, catering and waiting staff. 10/10
This pub with rooms is a fabulous find. It's conveniently located just off the M4 and though not in one of the prettier Cotswold villages, it is very near the beautiful Castle Combe and thus well located for a weekend. The pub is excellent, clearly popular with locals as it was buzzing both nights we visited, and it is full of atmosphere. The food is excellent and wine very reasonable and the bottle I had was superb. Breakfast was equally good.
Rooms are compact but very well appointed and clearly recently refurbished. Bathrooms are roomy and the wet room was great. Rooms were well serviced and the service overall was friendly and helpful. My room had a double bed but was quickly exchanged for a king when I requested it. Overall, really enjoyed my stay and have already recommended it.
Love this place, from the minute you go through the door you know your in for a treat.Been many times
and will be going again soon, always leave happy and content, took my sister and her partner last sunday and we're still talking about the Yorkshire puddings (best ever).
Lovely food in a cosy environment. Will definitely be recommending to friends and will definitely be back.
Best Sunday lunch I have ever had in a restaurant. We took friends who had never been to OHH and they were extremely impressed with everything
Great food on new year day
Excellent food, brilliant staff. Owner/manager spoke to member of staff disgustingly in front of consumers which put a downer on the end of the night.
As always the food was excellent, unfortunately the service was not as good. We had to remind the staff after half an hours wait that we were ready to order. When our starters did arrive, one of them had been forgotten, so we had to wait another 10 mins for it to come. A real shame, as the pub wasn’t even busy
Great food, drink, service and pub. Perfect place for my mums birthday lunch. Will be back.
We have visited and eaten here at least half a dozen times. It is a lovely pub, friendly staff and very good food. Highly recommended.
Early Sunday evening. Delighted to see Sunday roast on the menu at that time of day. Superb food and great portion size. Lovely staff. Was very quiet when we were there but still very pleasant. We like it there. Will be back.
Great food lovely setting. Bit noisy with kids on arrival, but then it was lovely!
Lovely country pub with good food and a warm welcome!
Only criticism is the ramp for disable access is very steep and not sure that having cars parked so close at the bottom of the slope is very clever
A tad noisy and would have preferred a fuller plate for the price but the food and service was very good.
Food was very good but was just a little over priced. Service was OK but had to wait just a little bit to long for starters & mains by 15 minutes or so.
Overall a good experience & with just a little tweak could have been very good.
Really, friendly welcome and great service throughout. Food was delicious.
Good atmosphere and friendly staff. Food very good as always. We will return...
Lamb was too fatty, roasters were not special and Yorkshire puds were not crisp
A lovely old pub with real character and charm. Very cosy by the open fire! A very warm welcome from the lady at the bar. Good food and a nice choice of ale. Will hope to visit again.
As always great food and service
Lovely atmosphere and good food. A fab place to go for a cozy lunch or a date
After being recommend to us we had high expectations of finding a menu that it would be difficult to choose from, however we were very disappointed to find little to inspire us.
Everything apeared to be over complex with sauces which neither of us enjoy, also hoped to find either a lamb or pork dish, neither available and only one plate of sea bass was available and this at 7pm.
Very friendly and great food with many options.
We were a party of four and were very impressed with the friendly, but not overpowering, service.
We all chose from the specials board and had the sea bass and haddock fillets. They were very ready to adjust the meals to suit individual likes and dislikes, but, before committing, quite correctly. asked the chef what was possible.
All the fish was cooked to perfection and the meals beautifully presented .
Marshfield farm ice cream sufficed for desserts and the coffees were excellent.
Can't wait to try the exciting Christmas Party Menu.
This was my second visit after stumbling across this lovely little place over a year ago. It left an impression then and I was joy disappointed this time around. Thank you for wonderful food and great service.
The food was well above most gastropubs I've recently visited. The duck was perfectly cooked and the duck risolle/croquet was an excellent addition. Soup to start was tops and the liquor added to the pud was generous indeed😃. Our server was on the ball throughout and a very smiley chap , thanks to you all and as Arnie says.......well you know
