The Ox Barn
The nineteenth century former oxen house is the newest addition to the family of meticulously restored farm buildings. A state-of-the-art piece of agricultural architecture at its conception, Caryn Hibbert worked meticulously to preserve the soaring archways and original Cotswold stone rubble walls, to now house a modern, dining destination - including a contemporary bar and seven and a half metre Charvet open kitchen - to allow for an authentic, heritage-rich dining experience, enabled by today’s best culinary technologies.
Usually much better - this visit we found the menu with little to offer that wasn't incredibly intricate or complicated. We will be back but hopefully the menu will offer a bit more by way or familiar dishes with a twist instead of everything being very challenging.
Great space, quite a limited menu. Lovely wine list.
Wonderful location, excellent food, great staff but very pricey wine list.
Delicious food and good attentive service in beautiful surroundings but spoilt by intrusive, inappropriate music which we asked to be turned down.
A brilliant family dinner out. Thank you. The ox barn is a truly lovely facility.
Starters and pud just top notch delicious across the board
My main (hake dish) was a little disappointing - flavours lacked clarity as it was all mixed together and ended up a bit of a mush!
First class service and ambience and beautifully designed place
We will be back!
One recommendation would be to offer some non-alcoholic products such as seedlip/caleno/low alcohol beers/wines etc
Wonderful find in the village of Southrop. Lovely grounds and food was exceptional.
Really delicious food and wonderful service. Outside beautiful but too blustery to sit there the day we went. Spot lighting inside a bit cold and harsh. Otherwise a lovely experience.
On a lovely sunny day we enjoyed a delicious lunch outside in beautiful surroundings. The staff are attentive and very welcoming. The menu was interesting and seasonal. I would recommend the Ox Barn to anyone who wants a relaxed but first class meal in amazing english countryside setting.
Beautiful place and the staff were very helpful. Will definitively go again
Supperb food & service as always. Outside area comes into its own on a summer evening.
This is the second time we’ve been since it reopened, it’s definitely become our favourite place. We love it! The place, the food and the staff are particularly nice.
A lovely evening out. Great to see the staff taking our safety so seriously too.
Beautifully designed restaurant and garden. Very courteous staff and taking COVID 19 seriously so felt safe taking an older parent there. We would definitely return.
Lovely fresh food in a truly beautiful setting. The service is always exemplary. A unique place. They are managing the Covid restrictions really well too... we forgot about the virus for a few hours!
A quite beautiful setting with fresh food served delightfully.
The food is not very "clever" just very well done.
The wine list is very expensive, with only a few reasonably priced items. Which were delicious.
Overall a great evening out, we will be back.
Oh my gosh. The place is amazing; the most beautiful gardens which is where we ate. Several tables occupied but spaced out well. The sun was shining, the staff were so good - the right mix of great service delivered in an informal way. We loved it!
My pasta wasn't't piping hot - which is the only reason a star was dropped - but even that didn't spoil what was a superb lunchtime experience.
Compliments to the management, you have got it spot on. I don't want to recommend it, because I want to keep the place a secret, but I couldn't help myself, and have told loads of people they have to go!
Very best wishes to the team, keep it up.
Had a lovely lunch celebration for my friends 50th Birthday after not being able to celebrate due to lockdown... stunning setting, great atmosphere helped with the sunshine and well looked after, will definitely be back.
Despite this being a limited menu, the food was excellent. Fantastic quality, fresh and summery with great attention to detail. The service was unobtrusive, friendly and we felt really well attended to. Our first meal out after lockdown and we couldn't have chosen a better place.
We had a very enjoyable family lunch to celebrate my husbands birthday. Would really recommend the food - it was delicious. We were lucky with the weather so had our meal outside in the lovely garden. A special place to go.
One of the best places to eat in Oxfordshire if you like the whole field to fork culture and super-fresh food served in a beautiful barn. We all had food allergies and the staff were excellent both in their knowledge and execution of alternatives to the menu. It is reassuringly expensive, but for a special occasion, just the ticket.
Very tasty food and good service. Nice wines on offer.
Loved the yummy chicken, gooseberry bellini’s and strawberry sorbet, wonderful smiley waiters / waitresses, great atmosphere - nailed it!
Dependably excellent environment for a lazy afternoon of food (and shopping) with delightful staff.
Good to see the Barn open again. Food as good as always, service a little slower than usual, but to be expected with the new rules, tables well spaced but they were pre COVID-19 too; a very pleasant evening out. Will be back soon for drinks in the garden
Really enjoyed our visit, slightly odd due to covid distancing but venue, staff and food made for a lovely lunchtime experience. Being a confirmed carnivore was surprised how much I enjoyed what is a vegetable orientated menu, and although there were chicken and fish mains didn't go down that route, almost tapas style and about 5 good value sharing dishes plus dessert left us stuffed. Kudos also to our waiter who steered us to a cheaper bourgogne rather than our choosen sancerre.
First post-lockdown visit and enjoyed it immensely but the lunch menu had little choice - too many salads! Looking forward to dinner there one evening.
Received email for afternoon and bites but no bites menu so ordered all the starters which was nice but a little misleading maybe. First weekend after Covid so maybe to be expected . Still enjoyed the afternoon, shame the main reception and bar area was off limits due to a photo shoot
First visit following lockdown, no disappointment! Great service, well protected etc. Limited menu but nice flavours!
Beautifully decorated and great ambience however the menu was quite restricted and overly priced. There is a lovely sitting area by the fire place and would be lovely to stay there for drinks afterwords however not willing to pay over £15 for one cocktail.
Great to see a good turn-out given what’s going on in the world but it’s a huge room so should put a few minds at rest. Great food - my hogget with puntarelle was fabulous - a well-chosen wine list and characteristically first-rate service made it another treat. If you’re in the Cotswolds give it a try. It’s wondrous!
My wife and I had not visited before but very impressed with the menu and wine list and we will definitely be returning in the not too distant future.
Brilliant! Great vibe lovely venue and the food excellent
I really enjoyed my meal. It was relaxed and great for our young son.
Really really good , great location , amazing building , very good service , very good food and excellent overall ambience . will be back .
I had the most brilliant time at Ox Barn. The good was absolutely excellent. Everything was perfectly cooked and exactly the sort of thing we wanted to eat on a cold January evening. The room was gorgeous, and the atmosphere cosy and fun. The staff were the right amount of attentive, friendly, but not overbearing. Such a joy! I will be back very soon.
Lovely bar but service a little slow, then into the main room which is lovely and rapidly filled up, service in the restaurant was excellent, the food is clean healthy and simple but smashes a big flavour punch, then into the seating area around the fire for coffee etc and a lovely night had by all
Fantastic service, delicious food and altogether brilliant evening. Alfred and George our identical twin waiters could not have been more charming. We had a really lovely time!
A thoroughly good evening. Worth arriving early and having a relaxed drink in the ante-room on comfortable sofas. Acoustics make it a little noisy in the barn - especially if a bit high-tone deaf. Food and wine were extremely good, as expected. Service was perhaps a tiny bit too attentive. I prefer not to be disturbed mid-course but to have attentive staff with a good eye on every table who's attention can be easily attracted. I strongly recommend a meal here.
Beautiful setting, we went for lunch and it was lovely. Unfortunately we did wait a long time for our food and when it came, it was a little cold, which was a shame as it was delicious. We had a cocktail after lunch, which was nice, however, the music was very loud and we couldn't hear eachother! Staff lovely and very courteous.
