The Ox Barn
The nineteenth century former oxen house is the newest addition to the family of meticulously restored farm buildings. A state-of-the-art piece of agricultural architecture at its conception, Caryn Hibbert worked meticulously to preserve the soaring archways and original Cotswold stone rubble walls, to now house a modern, dining destination - including a contemporary bar and seven and a half metre Charvet open kitchen - to allow for an authentic, heritage-rich dining experience, enabled by today’s best culinary technologies.
I appreciate that there are difficulties with covid in terms of staffing levels but this was one of the poorest dining experiences I have ever had. This was booked as a birthday dinner which I reminded them when they rang to confirm my booking.
From the moment we arrived we were ignored by staff who were admittedly rushed off their feet. They were perfectly pleasant but it was impossible to get anyone's attention. It took 30mins to get a drink and an hour to get our starters (and only then when we chased because the couple on the next table who had ordered after us had got their food). My starter was great but my fiancé's was bland. Then the mains finally arrived but my fiancé's lamb dish was dry, so dry that for the first time in his life, he sent
a meal back. We appreciate that they took our mains off the bill but we then had to wait for them be cooked again - at which point they told us all the lamb had been ruined and was dry so he had to order something else. By the time we ate mains it was 2 hours after we had arrived. At £29 a main, to serve food of that poor quality is inexcusable.
The place has real potential (incredible setting) but at that price point, there are serious issues that must be addressed.
A fantastic evening , good food and marvellous service in beautiful surroundings.
Celebrating my birthday and couldnt have gone to a more fabulous place . Food exceptional
A very special place - eating in the garden, great food and service….thank you
Unfortunately we were disappointed with the food. I had the pork which when we have had it before were very thin slices with a lovely sauce. This time it was an overdone pork chop with hardly any sauce. My husband had the bavette, which last time he enjoyed enormously, this time it was overdone and tough
Thyme is a delightful new discovery. From our arrival to our departure - my friend and I had a truly wonderful time. The setting is so very pretty (helped by warm late summer sun our lunch at the Ox Barn was delicious.
Cant wait to return....
Delicious Sunday lunch but don’t expect your average Sunday roast style meal! Interesting “small” plate dishes, not cheap but absolutely excellent.
Great food in a beautiful setting slightly let down by service that was not of the same standard.
Very good experience we had a wonderful time! Will definitely return.
Beautiful restaurant in a beautiful part of the world serving delicious fresh food, perfect.
Fabulous place , lovely to sit on the terrace and the food was different but very high quality. Service was attentive and knowledgeable.
Looking forward to going back soon
Fantastic food, beautiful setting and great service, overall a lovely experience
Stunning dining room and ambience . Lots of space , beautiful gardens and delicious food.
Great food, grounds and service. Would highly recommended.
Clearly the very high prices are to cover the “lifestyle” vibe that they are aiming for. Very very high prices for what is decent bistro food. Service was slow and not very knowledgeable
Lovely place, great staff, over priced for what it is .
The venue is beautiful inside and out. The pressed flower exhibition was stunning too. The customer service throughout the site was very very good. Unfortunately we felt that the food was a bit of a disappointment. For the venue and price we expected excellent but all members of our party felt it was average. Excellent presentation just very bland to taste.
Fab lunch in beautiful surroundings to celebrate my husbands birthday.
Couldn't have been better. Thank you
Having booked this evening months ago and advised the restaurant one of us was vegan there was little choice and something was just rustled up on the night Unfortunately the staff seemed in need of training especially with the choice of drinks! This was supposed to be a birthday celebration but we were dissapointed although the restaurant is on a beautiful setting.
Fabulous lunch, fabulous surroundings and fabulous service
Perfect ambience and customer service. A very special location.
We had a great experience and the food was outstanding.
The restaurant is lovely and Thyme is set within the most gorgeous gardens and countryside. We really enjoyed our meal. The cauliflower soup was fantastic as was my chocolate mousse. My husband enjoyed the hazelnut tart but thought the pastry was a touch dry - maybe overcooked? My husband loved his chicken which he thought was perfectly cooked, but I was less impressed with the pork which I thought was a bit average for the price. Service is very friendly and efficient. It is expensive for a lunch but we enjoyed the meal and the setting and would return.
The place is in a really nice location in the middle of the countryside, a really lovely garden will guide you at the entrance of the restaurant. The ambience was nice and the service was good if we don't consider they served the wrong wine. My food was shocking, I ordered the pork which was very dry, the fat was not rendered down, and it under seasoned. The leaks, beans and lardon were also under seasoned and relatively flavourless, they had stretch to a whole 4 lardons of bacon mind! My partner main was the halibut and despite being well cooked and seasoned it was completely over powered by the sauce. The toilet were not very clean and there was no toilet paper, soap or hands towels when I went to use them. If you price for high standards then you should maintain them. I was there for my partner's birthday and I never been so disappointed.
Lovely setting, fantastic service once again from George and super fresh and tasty menu
My fiancé and I had a wonderful lunch at The Ox Barn whilst having a little Cotswolds staycation. The team were calmly friendly and approachable whilst being absolutely on it and being aware of our needs. Both the food and the building are stunning, will this will definitely not be the last time we come here.
We had a very good meal and had such a fantastic time as everything was enjoyable - ambiance, service, food and what impressed was that the chef was very accommodating our specific vegetarian and vegan diets. We will definitely be back. Well done.
Had a wonderful time. Food was delicious and the service was impeccable.
This restaurant was simply outstanding. The best dining experience I’ve had in a long time. I am gluten and dairy intolerant and they were able to make every dish possible for me to eat! Highly recommend.
The service was terrible. I’d finished my main before my glass of wine had arrived. My bread also arrived about 30 seconds before my main.
I had to chase for my wine, which still took an age.
Staff all seemed to be more bothered chatting amongst themselves than actually waiting on customers.
I had the artichoke risotto which was very mediocre - could have made better myself at home.
The setting is lovely, very well designed but overall very disappointing
Excellent quality food with very friendly and efficient young staff. Not cheap but well worth the price for the overall experience and quality of food.
The Ox Barn is a wonderful place to dine! We were celebrating a birthday and was extremely well looked after and treated very well! The food is next to none and the chocolate mousse is just perfection!
Wow !!!! Daylesford meets Soho Farmhouse !!!!
Lovely lunch and day out! Delicious food and great atmosphere.
Very worthwhile first stop to start our weekend away in the Cotswolds. Stunning location with matching food using quality local produce.
Quite nice food but very poor value . I expected more from an artichoke risotto which cost £24. The setting was lovely but the restaurant needs to think more generously. For insatnce, bread and nibbles were expensive and there were no good value wines. Some good restaurants bring bread and butter gratis and this helps with the feeling that customers are valued.
Beautiful ambiance, relaxing, calm and very enjoyable
What an absolutely beautiful restaurant!!
The food, drinks, service and atmosphere was perfect.
The food is amazing and the garden is beautiful. Would definitely recommend. The waiter forgot our drinks but otherwise everything was perfect.
Great ambience and setting and planning to revisit soon
