Fish
Perched on the hillside offering panoramic views of The Cobb and Jurassic Coast, The Oyster & Fish House is arguably the most picturesque spot in Dorset to enjoy locally sourced fish and seafood. A large terrace wraps around the informal, light and airy dining room with floor to ceiling windows.

The menus at the Fish House are built around the long-established, personal relationships that Mark Hix has with his suppliers and use only responsibly produced, carefully sourced and simply served British seasonal ingredients. The Fish House also serves by-catch fish and seafood, supporting local Lyme Bay Reserve fishermen.

The wine list reads as a charming tour of the local vineyards including Furleigh Estate, Lyme Bay and boutique vineyard, Castlewood. So, it’s not surprising to see Mark’s own label beers, made locally by Palmers alongside a seasonal cocktail list showcasing local spirits.

A fabulous setting with views over the bay which we got to know very well as we were there for three hours. It took nearly an hour for our starters to arrive and, when they did, no apology for the delay. Bearing in mind we were there at 3.15pm so they weren’t rushed off their feet we could see no reason for the long wait. We asked for a refill of our water jug but that was forgotten so had to ask again. The food was good but not spectacular. The best thing was the Credit Crunch ice cream with hotchocolate sauce. Would I go back? Probably not

Great view overlooking the Cobb in Lyme Regis. The food was good, a varied menu including many fish options as you would expect. Drinks menu however was poor, only a couple of choices of red or white if you wanted just a glass and the bottles seemed very overpriced. The service I thought was very lacklustre. When I tried to order wine, my order was only taken when I chased them and we never got offered the dessert menu so gave up on the end. With so many choices of eating options in the area, this was a very disappointing experience

So good to be back with the exceptional views over Lyme harbour. Recommend you stay with the Oysters as a starter and fresh fish main. The clue is in the name.

The Oyster & Fish House has always been a favourite, but this visit was very disappointing. The kitchen was out of a number of key dishes so there was limited choice (unless you wanted steak which defeats the point of a fish restaurant!) plus a whole section on mushrooms which again was limited if you don't like mushroom! Crab claws were overpowered with chilli and no mention had been made on the menu that it was a spicy dish or when asking the waitress how it was cooked. Plus incredibly messy to eat and offered no finger bowl or wipes. The waiting staff were very friendly but seemed under-staffed as they were making lots of mistakes - one of our sides never arrived, our wine order was wrong and took a long time to get served. Hoping this was just an off night!

Lovely setting and views. Very warm welcome. Battered oysters with scotch bonnet mayo out of this world!! Could have done with a little sauce (oil/butter) on the sole as was a little dry. Wine excellent. Excellent service but only 4 stars as at the end it took an age to pay - I was sat with my card visibly showing for some time and the waitress who was serving us was taking an order for a large table. Felt that one of her colleagues could have stepped up. Otherwise wonderful and would definitely go back!

The food was really not of the standard we were hoping for. The starters were very poor and under seasoned. The main courses were good but not exceptional. We were not offered a second drink and had to keep asking when we needed something. The bar area was completely covered in dirty glasses which looked like they had been there for hours. The stairs down to the ladies toilet were dangerously slippery. The kitchen was also downstairs and I think the grease had been walked through from the kitchen. Accident waiting to happen.

Truly, the Oyster and Fish House is the only place in town worth investing in, unless you want an occasional bao bun at Red Panda nearby. The whole experience is so well-designed, the food scrumptious and generous and the service faultless. Cocktails and wine are typically so distinct and perfectly balance with all the food choices. This is the art of Mark Hix, hanging sensationally in the air. Upmarket, sexy and earthy all at once. It has even gone up a notch from the thing of beauty it used to be pre-lockdown. Go for any occasion and on your own too. Sit outside on the terrace with spectacular views onto the Cobb and bay.

Really beautiful place with amazing views and a cracking menu. Lemon sole, mackerel with salsa, soused herring, squid ink risotto, oysters and breaded puffball all featured, brilliantly cooked. Lovely service too. Can't wait to go back.

The food was really delicious and perfectly cooked. Only concern was that none of the staff were wearing masks, considering other restaurants had a more thorough pandemic measures in place.

Had a most wonderful meal on Saturday night. Great food , cocktails , lively interesting service. Great views over the Cobb. Will definitely be back. Only thing we would have preferred is to have seen the waiting staff in face coverings. It is a tight space and we were slightly aware of distancing issues.

Probably 10 years since we last ate here and for one of our party it was the first time. The choice was not quite as extensive as the sample menu, but this was a Monday in a fish restaurant. The fried/grilled mixed fish for two was outstanding. The cockle popcorn brilliant. We even liked all of the deserts which is unusual. The service from Andina and the rest of the team was excellent. We particularly appreciated the time the manager took to explain what was going on to reclaim the Hix name and passion. We won't be waiting 10 years to go back

We had a lovely meal, the food was fantastic, very tasty. The cure salmon and popcorn cockles were delicious, as was the plaice.

The service was very good, much better than it has been some times in the past.

View outstanding, we were lucky enough to get a window seat over looking the cobb, you can see the weather coming in.

We had a nice meal at The Oyster & Fish House. The view over the bay and sea is absolutely stunning.
My prawn burger was very good. I had never had one before and I would highly recommend this. My boyfriend's fish stew was also nice, although I would say the portion size was a little small for that price. The cockle popcorn snack and the frozen fruit with white chocolate sauce were nice, but nothing special. We also realised during our meal we weren't given any napkins, contrary to the other people in the restaurant. Minor error of course, but I think because it is a Hix restaurant you have high expectations, especially when you pay a lot more than most restaurants in the area. Overall, the location and the view made the place worthwhile, although I would expect a little more from such a restaurant.

It's lovely to be back.

Our second trip since lockdown.

Service is a bit clunky and we had to chase for things, but the servers were nice.

The first trip was great, the second rather more crowded.

We were put on a table much less than a meter away from the people sitting behind us and no more than a meter from the table to our side (empty as it happened.)

The servers had to thread through and were brushing us as they did so. It was much too close.

We asked to move, and did. Had there not been a more isolated table we'd have left.

They are trying to fit too many people in which, no matter how understandable, is not safe or desirable at the moment.

Our meal was great.
