The Oyster & Fish House
The menus at the Fish House are built around the long-established, personal relationships that Mark Hix has with his suppliers and use only responsibly produced, carefully sourced and simply served British seasonal ingredients. The Fish House also serves by-catch fish and seafood, supporting local Lyme Bay Reserve fishermen.
The wine list reads as a charming tour of the local vineyards including Lyme Bay and boutique vineyard, Castlewood. Enjoy a local beer made locally by Palmers or Gilt and Flint, alongside a seasonal cocktail list showcasing local spirits.

First class food, service and setting. Only issue was slightly slow bringing mains after starters. Otherwise spot on.
Booked an outside table 3 weeks before attending. Arrived 6 minutes early and was told abruptly to wait on the door step by the head of house as our table wasn’t ready and that we was early. She could of approached this in a much more professional and polite manner. Then we was shown to our table which had the Hix takeaway van in front of us so NO view what so ever even though there was other tables for two available. The waitress that served us agreed it really wasn’t a good seat and asked if we wanted to move to stall seats even though there were other tables for two available. We were dressed smart but clearly we were not good enough for those seats. I hope other guests have a better experience and I would definitely check where you are sitting before booking.
Went here on recommendation of friends & it didn’t disappoint. The menu had plenty of choice, it is quite an unusual menu but we went knowing that it wouldn’t be “the norm”.
Food was really good, portion sizes good & service was good. Would happily go again!
Fantastic fish in a beautiful setting- we loved it !
Good food, good service and a great view. What else would you want
Excellent beautifully cooked food and a fab setting overlooking the bay. Ideal for seafood lovers. £9 for kids fishfinger and chips....
We ate at late lunch around 2.30pm. Service was poor as they had a new runner - 3 starters arrived before the fourth, which hadn't been put through to the kitchen, so we had a wait while that was cooked. Waitress didn't check Mains arrived without sides, so that fish was cold by the time the sides arrived - they did take two portions off the bill which was appreciated - waitress was lovely but they need a bit of tweaking with their service training.
Excellent food, lovely ambience, friendly service. Great location too, overlooking Lyme Regis Cobb.
Fantastic food, excellent service, lovely atmosphere, great views and lovely, friendly and very helpful staff. Highly recommend.
The setting is lovely and our waitress was outstanding, unfortunately a lot of the menu was unavailable which at least shows what they do serve is fresh. Sadly quite of few of the dishes were bland and unseasoned, overall disappointing as have previously had lovely meals.
Great atmosphere and wonderful views The menu was restricted because of the catch being poor. However the special mix of fried fish was really good
Enjoyed the rose’ wine and coffee cocktail post lunch
Staff a great bunch of cheerful youngsters
Such a fantastic meal; fresh, quality produce cooked to perfection. The team were brilliant, efficient, friendly, knowledgeable and we enjoyed it so much we’re going again before we leave for home at the weekend!
We came to Hix for part of a girls weekend to celebrate my 40th. We had a great experience - the food was lovely as well as the service! It was lovely to meet Mark Hix himself who chatted to all the tables. Really lovely - we will definitely be back!
Despite torrential rain and an outside table booked, we enjoyed a lovely evening. Staff really looked after us extremely well , moving us to a table slightly less affected by the rain and under a heater!
Our first visit but will definitely return next time we visit the area. Thank you !
In very difficult times and appalling weather, the team at the Oyster House delivered stunning food with efficiency and charm. It is a wonderful restaurant with a view to match the food. Highly recommend.
Beautiful setting with delicious food. Such a lovely way to spend our anniversary.
The food is great here - Thus time I had oysters and sea bream both were exceptional . The waiting staff are friendly and super helpful - front of house not so much - lady with the daisy mask - bit rude !!
Good food, Good service and nice informal atmosphere.
What can I say !! Yet again another amazing meal , fantastic service , outside decking really enjoyable and simple but stunning food , highly recommend if you love fish and seafood
Walnut Vodka cocktail bit weird but glad we tried it. Good food, fish well cooked but pricey!
Wonderful food in an amazing location with views over Lyme Regis bay. Staff are outstanding.
Very interesting preparation and presentation of seafood.
Enjoyed our experience
Great position, pretty good food, friendly service
Absolutely one of my favourite places to eat. Took my parents here who were visiting for the first time after all the lockdowns, and they loved it as much as we do. Excellent food and service - thanks so much.
Delicious dinner last evening with excellent service and wonderful views. We shared the grilled fish with chips and spring veg. Scallop starter perfectly cooked and tempura oyster melts in the mouth. Washed down with glasses of Pinot Gris and bottomless sparkling water which was a nice touch.
Great food and location. Very friendly staff. Drinks a bit pricey. Had a great time!
Fantastic evening with fabulous food & drink and superb service
Food was really good although we needed to remind the staff that we had ordered sides.
Staff were lovely but overstretched to the level where the experiances was not as good as it could of been. super location with good food that could easily be great with additional staff & attention to detail.
We were unable to sit inside at our reserved table, as there was a child seated nearby, who was wandering around and being quite loud. Unfortunately when we had a light shower we weren’t under the awning cover, so used our stalls for our plates and shuffled under the awning as best we could. One waiter did subsequently offer us umbrellas.
We waited a long time for our main course; a member of staff did apologise for this. We decided therefore not to have a dessert and further drinks.
The view was fantastic, the fish was exceptionally good, but overall the evening was good but not excellent.
Deliciously prepared sea food. Some of the best we've tasted.
Attentive and very helpful service.
Booked in advance, but sadly arrived late. But it was really no problem for the really kind and enthusiastic staff.
Relaxed environment out on the decking, terrific views, and luckily for us, great weather!
Food was great, for me fresh St Austell muscles perfectly cooked; I took a spoon to the resultant heavenly sauce. Then the house prawn burger, with house fries, again delicious.
All washed down with a glass of "What Mark's drinking" portuguese rose, really refreshing.
Parked in the Holmbush Car Park and walked down 3/4 minutes to the restaurant.
Very tasty food. Sat outside on the balcony with a seaview on a beautiful summer evening. Bliss.
A very disappointing evening. Leftover food piled high and overflowing in one plastic bin, dirty dishes in another and oyster shells in another. This was on a table on the terrace where staff collect cutlery and enter orders into the computer.
Mediocre lukewarm food. £38.00 for carafe of warm white wine.
The staff were friendly but disorganised. There was a long wait between arriving, ordering and getting the bill.
Nobody seemed to be in charge.
We won't be going back.
A fabulous venue overlooking the most amazing part of the UK. Food is always fabulous. A little more staff training required and less crashing of plates as they are returned to the kitchen but overall a very good lunch! We shall be back (probably for our 10th or so visit!)
Very nice meal as usual at Hicks. Stunning views on a beautiful day.
Waitress’s managed to forget my drinks order even though the bar was only 15 feet away the shellfish soup was every good but the main dish was slow to arrive and only warm sorry to say not an experience I’ll want to remember
Smooth buttery colcannon with a perfectly cooked piece of smoked haddock and a poached egg. Need I say more? Ok then, we had a cool glass of home made elderflower fizz to start- as good as I’ve ever made- and a baked cheesecake with sea buckthorn berries and a treacle tart with clotted cream for pud. Both were just right; the treacle tart not sickly at all and the buckthorn a zingy complement to the creamy cheesecake. On a sunny day, with a view of the Cobb and two tired doggies snoozing in the shade after a walk along the coast path. They were offered water but I had brought my own for them. We will be back….
Another fantastic meal at Hix the food was beautiful and the service was fantastic, they were great with accommodating our two year old!
The new outdoor seating area is lovely, such a relaxing space. Thank you 🙏🏼
Fabulous meal at Hix - very hot in the sun on the terrace - we were lucky with the weather!
Wanted to move out of the sun but were not able to even though other tables were free a shame
A lovely hidden restaurant with an amazing view. Friendly helpful staff. The food was delicious. We sat outside and loved the atmosphere and heater :D
