The Paper Mill
I recommended the Paper Mill to the relatives we were meeting up with and they were very impressed with the whole experience.
Brilliant food and drink! Will definitely be returning ....
First time back in a long time, found the staff pleasant and welcoming, although maybe could have been a bit quicker in providing drinks, but other than that no complaint. The food was really good, looked appetising and well presented. The décor and ambience were fine, we had a good night.
We were delayed in getting to the restaurant but they very kindly held our table. Lovely staff and food was very good. Great family meal.
This was a great find and pleased to recommend for lunch or supper.
Interior needs an upgrade: we sat in a booth - seating was torn and worn. Food was mediocre. Our so-called ribeye steaks were over-cooked and of poor quality. Sauces were bland and tasted like packet mix. Service was fine but overall we had a very underwhelming evening. Unable to recommend.
Service was quick and plate well composed for a Full Scottish . They could not find booking initially which was a bit frustrating so got sat by door which was rather busy going in and out. Previous experiences have been better. Plenty food but a little bland. Usually food tasty.
Fantastic breakfast, great service, beautiful building
Lovely evening meal, couldn’t fault it!
It was a very pleasant experience. I will definitely be back.
Nice staff. Very helpful. Busy inside with diners. Music on large which sounded very good.
Only down side was upholstery on chairs, very stained and dirty looking.
Table tops were same. Would still go back for food.
The food we had was very tasty but I was disappointed with the choice! only 1 thing on menu that I fancied preferred the mon- Thursday menu so would check menu before I went again the guy singing was good and service was good .
The ambiance was good and we had a lovely table
When we arrived we didn’t get much of welcome and had the ‘I’ll be with you in a minute’ line
The waitress was very pleasant however when she was allocated our table
I had a vegetarian starter and main but they were very similar Mushroom and cheese. I felt that more imagination for the veggie options were needed
We had three courses each and three alcoholic drinks and one soft drink which cost £80 for two which I suppose is a fair price out of town
By the time we came to ordering pudding we were in two minds as to whether we just went home because the waiting staff were distracted ,busy chatting and took about 30 minutes to realise that we were ready to order
Overall It was ok but not somewhere that I would rush back to and think that it could be a lot better
On our bus route from Edinburgh - good find - we’ll be back!
Was a last minute thing, but thoroughly enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. Service was excellent. Only minor complaint is that hot plates would keep food warmer longer. Will certainly be back.
Had excellent meal and service on Dec 18th. Choice was good and so was wine and cocktail list. Will certainly go back
We were very impressed by the Paper Mill, Service was quick, food tasty 😋 but could have been a bit hotter! Overall a happy experience 👏
Always love the food, the new menu is great. Staff are always perfect.
Goodlocation. Reservation process nice and simple. Staff welcoming and friendly. Food a bit slow but it was busy and we got a verbal update which helped. Would come again to try different meal. A nice place to meet friends.
Lovely lunch with a pal great food. Great gin fizz menu.
It's a great place to eat/drink with friends - has the buzz of a city restaurant/bar but local. The drinks service is has been rather slow the last few times I've visited which is a little disappointing.
Enjoyed a great meal celebrating a family members birthday .
Food , beers and cocktails all excellent .
Service was very good too , all round an enjoyable time .
Menu had less choice than previously. Burgers and steaks were good, fish was a bit bland as were the Chilli fish cakes. New bar food offering is a great idea. Service was spot on. We live locally so great to have somewhere you don’t have to drive to.
Went to the Paper Mill for a birthday lunch for my mum. It was a beer festival weekend which I did not know. Very noisy, busy with extremely loud guitarist playing "rock" style music. Table was by the door to the toilets, people constantly going in and out, children had toys from a "toy basket" all over the floor.
Parking was very difficult.
Tried numerous times to call and book a table, but no answer so booked through Opentable.
Food was good.
This was my third visit and the food was excellent. Lovely surroundings too.
Food was great. Staff were really friendly and helpful
We had a splendid supper at The Paper Mill. The menu choice, presentation of dishes and service were all excellent. This is a wee gem of a restaurant in a pretty location.
Excellent service, really tasty food and the place had a real buzz about it. My mum and dad thoroughly enjoyed it and so did we.
Food is good but a long wait for it, even the drinks take a while and it wasn’t busy. Doesn’t put me off returning but is disappointing.
As always, really friendly attentive staff. Great food, fresh, hot and 2 mains for £12 is excellent value.
My daughter and i had dinner at papermill for my birthday.we both had the trout to start with.was nice but not much at all on plate.i had the beef for mains and my daughter had the chichen.was good but luke warm.would have enjoyed it more if the meals were hot.perhaps the food was put onto cold plates.beef was wonderfully tender.
Lovely lunch with friends - good food and very friendly pleasant waitress
A family birthday celebration- good choice of food-attentive pleasant service. Like most restaurants, food is salted to the "average" requirement. Much less could salt be used in cooking and then allow the addicts to add their own extra top up.
What a wonderful meal.had 3 courses with my family.good cocktails.enjoyed the busy atmosphere.service was excellent.food was quick in coming.
Lovely food with a great service. Children's menu is very good value with quality ingredients.
Nothing is too much trouble.
Came for my son's 40th birthday and enjoyed our meal, but was disappointed to find at five o'clock certain courses were unavailable or limited. Don't think I would come back on a Sunday evening.
Very tasty dinner which my father in law thought was wonderful on his 80th birthday. The beef he had was delicious and very tender and my rib eye steak was cooked to perfection. The ladies had chicken and the fish and chips and equally enjoyed their dishes. The salmon tartare was also a very nice starter. Our waitress was very attentive and made us feel right at home.
Great dining experience all round. Also very good in the summer for a drink and food down by the river. Roll on summer!!
Disappointed that the previous good value lunch was now very expensive. No combination prices and no smaller portion options. A very expensive family lunch bill did taint the occasion.
The restaurant was nicely laid out inside. The area outside was also very attractive. We chose a main course and a sweet. Two of us got the main course from the xmas menu which was fine.my wife got the fish&chips which she thought was not cooked very well with the batter which should have been crispy not soggie and tasteless .The other member of the group had the burger which he thought was very poorly cooked. We complained to the manager who didn't charge for these items.
Very nice location and ambiance - the menu is varied and so hard to chose as lots of good dishes !
