The Pavilion at Kensington Palace
My husband and I had reservations for tea here on Sunday, January 19th. We were seated promptly on arrival. It took a few minutes to order our tea service but the waiter was friendly and knowledgeable. We both thought the tea, sandwiches, scones, and cakes were very good. There was more than enough food for both of us. Unfortunately, there was no follow-up service after our food was delivered. None of the wait staff checked-in to see how things were. After we finished, it took us 30 minutes to flag a member of the waitstaff down to get out bill. After receiving it, we had to wait almost 10 minutes for the waiter to come back to take our payment-- this certainly wasn't the level of service I would have expected from a "royal" tea. We also weren't alone in this issue. I saw another dinner go up to the waiter's stand at the back of the room to ask for his bill and pay. Aside from the poor service, the food and ambiance were very nice.
Nice afternoon tea at the Pavillion, with a nice view to the kensington palace. Wonderful sparkling and selection of food and nice tea. My friend had her birthday, and got a special surprise! Thanks for excellent service and welcoming staff!
Great experience, the temporary structure was very good.
Nice and ”classy”! And this time we especially appreciated the flexibility to let us change our booking from 4 to 2 guests - with just 20 minutes notice. The reason in our end was health issues - and we really want to thank for the understanding and possibility to half cancel the booking! Thank you!!!
The scone and salmon sandwich were perfect!
But the size of food was too small
It’s a good experience, I’ll try the other food next time!
Perfect afternoon for me and my son with very friendly staff!
We were not very impressed by the offering (we ordered the afternoon tea). It was fine but not exceptional, scone were rather dry. We’ve seen better and our expectations we higher given the ‘royal’ flair. The temporary venue of the Pavilion was a bit disappointing. Friendly staff.
Great service, the food was excellent, well presented and the earth spins view was marvelous, couldn't be better. .I would suggest warmer plates on cold days, I will definitely recommend it to anyone, and I will go back again
The name of the place makes that your expectations are high. When you enter a tent where you have to hang your coat on your chair or even keep it on because it's so cold, you don't really get that royal feeling. The afternoon tea is put on the table all at once and that's it. The walk through the park back and from is nice though
Awesome tea. Despite the expensive afternoon tea price, the experience is absolutely amazing and everybody is very polite.
I enjoyed relaxed atmosphere and soroundIngs ,service was very good we didn't wait long for our afternoon tea, which looked amazingly aopetizing, waitress was friendly too.
I would recomend this place to my friends and will come back
Nothing great. Sandwiches sub standard setting not very nice and yet it’s the same price like in the original place
Very disappointing, being the Xmas season one would have thought that it would have been well decorated, especially in Kensington palace!! Only a Xmas tree and that was pretty well it!! Service was very mediocre!! ...and really I do know that it's called tea but having to pay extra for a coffee, now really and pay for a refill??? Having known what I now know we would have booked downtown at a nice decorated hotel. Oh well, live and learn!!
Wonderful Duck. And nice kids pasta. Nice Service and timeless surroundings.
Really enjoyed our afternoon tea in December- fantastic staff and very nice food
Jolly good! An excellent afternoon tea in a quiet, delicate environment.
We had a lovely meal, overall great experience, would certainly eat there again.
We hebben er van genoten
Het was rustig en relaxed
Lovely setting, and great service - will be fantastic once the renovations to the original building are complete also
Invite friends visiting London
Loved the location and food quality! We came for a fancy afternoon tea experience and definitely got that! Good location for walking/ museums after
It was lovely, delicious, and peaceful. I did miss fruit in some form with our tea. I wish I had understood that the Pavilion is not the Orangerie, where I have been before. I wonder if the Pavilion's proceeds support the redo of the Orangerie? That would make it certainly worthwhile to be there.
Lovely food, beautiful location and excellent service.
Three of my friends and I (live in London with U.S. accents) visited the Kensington Palace and had purchased tickets ahead of time and I booked lunch for the four of us in the pavilion thinking it would be nice. On the contrary!! The reluctant female waiter seemed to be filling in on a busy day and possesses a very condescending tone of voice. Not only did my meal not arrive till 15 minutes after my friends had been served, I was given the wrong beverages, and overcharged for drinks we did not order. Upon being asked if everything was alright and us trying to blow it off and continue our conversation. We then received a snarky..."well by the look on your faces you don't look happy" No apologies.... Just attitude. We explained the problems and she quickly left with our payment in full, no apology given.... and us confident about our time off being wasted.
We had a lovely 3-course Christmas lunch menu and afternoon tea with sparkling wine...very good portions. Choice of teas offered good too. A nice Christmas tree and other fitting decor added much warmth and feel for the season. The waiting staff were friendly, warm and most helpful. As winter, no flowers but had squirrels scurrying about and parakeets flying about to entertain us! A lovely restaurant.
Kind service, nice tea and peaceful atmosphere.
Very impressed with the service, afternoon tea and environment it was hosted in. Only point to make is that we had to ask for extra tea and milk during our visit as there wasnt quite enough on first service. Overall though very impressed!
For us, this was a perfect venue of quality surrounds to express something special for my sisters birthday
Housed in a temporary marquee, the service was slow and the food was overpriced compared to other London afternoon teas. There were four Christmas songs on repeat.
My main reason for choosing to have tea here was because of the place itself. It used to be inside this beautiful, elegant, yet warm and cozy building. However since they are remodeling, it’s currently being held under a tent... it just wasn’t the same.
My afternoon tea was relaxing and quite lovely. The tea and desserts were delicious. Christmas music was playing in the background and the wait staff was welcoming. Overall it was a lovely English tea experience.
We were rather disappointed by our visit to celebrate my mum's 93rd Birthday.
The service was slow and uninterested. Everything was slow to arrive, the table was not set for 3, no one offered us more tea or inquired about the service. We also had to find someone to bring bill
The food was OK, sandwiches were uninspiring although one of the cakes was lovely
It was also quite cold and lacking in atmosphere
Having enjoyed afternoon tea at many places in London we would not return
cakes was too sweats and not english style
i was expecting better view at garden
We booked at 2:45 pm and we were running late for a few minutes. I tried calling them on the phone and no one was answering. Once we arrived at the venue they told us that the kitchen closes at 2:45 pm! Why do they allow bookings at 2:45 if the kitchen closes at that time?!
Lovely food, nice atmosphere, however on a cold day the building is chilly in the afternoon.
A great place to have a nice sit down. Really loved the place and a great service and good value for your money.
I would totally recommend doing the afternoon tea. It was really delicious. Could not eat everything on it and even got a to go bag to eat the rest at the hotel. Thank you for the lovely afternoon
Terrible service, broken toilets, bad food (new menue), too cold for winter.
Highly recommend never going there.
Prompt service and good food. Would definitely return!
We found it a real disappointment as there was almost no Christmas atmosphere nor decoration.
The afternoon tea was completely below expectations. Very low quality of pastries, scones (no fresh cream nor jam) and sandwiches...
Very old decoration, dirty windows and spider webs ....
Needs an urgent update on interior styling ! We went there with high expectations as found it in the top 10 of afternoon teas in London.
We missed the experience, Xmas atmosphere, luxury feeling, delicious pastries, beautiful cutlery ... everything you would expect for that price & location.
