A very relaxing meal and everyone made us feel very welcome. Lovely atmosphere. Extremely charming and well trained staff and then a delicious meal to follow. Loved the attention to detail.
Beautifully presented food which was the right amount for a lunch. The food had a michelin star finesse to it and we enjoyed our lunch. My mum ordered the rose martini that matched the quality of the London bars (I'm from London) and was served in a large glass so you get your bang for your buck. I liked the small dining rooms, sadly we didn't get to explore the rest of the rooms or the bars. I'm sure it is very lovely in deep winter with the fire roaring and also in summer out in the gardens.
The birthday card from the team was a lovely and welcomed touch. Thank you for hosting my birthday.
Pleasant pub and homely atmosphere. Would visit again.
Really enjoyed our meal on Saturday. The service was excellent and the waiters were attentive.
We regularly visit the Peacock for special occasions and always have a lighter lunch with a bottle of wine. The food is fantastic and they cater for gluten free too. I was a bit disappointed with the gf dessert choice this time though - it was all just fruit and sorbet and nothing of any substance. I would have liked to see an attempt at gf pastry or crumble. I'm really not sure the basil granita worked with the lychees and mango. Won't stop me going back though.
We are regular diners here and have NEVER been disappointed. The staff are wonderful and welcoming and the food is always excellent
Superb food, using the best of what is seasonably available. in a lovely setting to provide a wonderful fine dining experience.
This is a location for a special occasion, with delicious food, and excellent service and whilst being expensive, I believe its still good value for the overall experience.
What more can I say? Superb meal served by supremely professional staff. Afterwards we relaxed in the very comfortable lounge with our coffees. The lighter lunch menu was excellent value and satisfying. We will be back!
Nothing was too much trouble for the staff at the Peacock. The service and food were excellent. We were given a private room as it was a special occasion.
Couldn’t fault it and we will return soon.
We are regular visitors to this truly excellent restaurant and we have always found the whole din8ng experience to be first class in every respect. The welcome is warm and friendly, the service, decor and ambiance is exceptional and the food is absolutely delicious!
Went for a special meal for a birthday treat. Really great food and good service which just got the balance right between being attentive, professional but not too stuffy. Coffee in the garden at 9.00 pm was a lovely end to a really good meal.
A comfortable restaurant providing excellent quality food, well presented . Service was excellent and attentive and the atmosphere friendly. I would thoroughly recommend the Peacock at Rowsley.
The glowing reviews led me here having found a there to be little to be excited about in Bakewell or in Matlock. Regrettably, I will not be returning as I was very disappointed with our meal. First, the ambience. The room was nice, although to sit inside on a gloriously beautiful day in summer and not being able to sit outside— while the patio doors were wide open and led to empty tables—was bemusing. The carpet smelled a bit old and the lobby and dining room could do with an olofactory refresh. The average age of diners must be 70 which is fine, but just know this if you have a younger group that doesn’t want to eat in relative silence. The service was pleasant enough although getting the bill took too long. I asked for it twice, only to be told to pay at reception where you also just leave cash as a tip - no envelope, no box. No way of pinpointing who you are thanking or who left the money. Very bizarre. Now on to the main course - the food. It was okay but absolutely not gourmet. Starters were fine (tomato salad and salmon tartare are hard to mess up) although less tasty than their descriptions. The chicken was rubbery and lukewarm; the pork was absent of any flavor. The roast potatoes though were the crowning disappointment - baked so crisp that there is almost no way to cut into it without risking sending it to the table next door. And neither potato had any filling. Is that a new trend? Empty potatoes? The crackling was once again over-crisp and too big to lay down your utensils and sneak into the mouth. So it stayed on the plate. We didn’t opt for dessert - why throw good money after bad - and those we saw pass by looked okay but again nothing special. I haven’t tried Stones in Matlock yet or Fischer’s at Baslow - both are on our list. We have, however, tried Le Mistral in Wirksworth and I would rather eat a good tasty meal here for much less without the stuffy atmosphere.
Lovely establishment with excellent service. The lighter lunch menu offers good value and the food was excellent. The combinations of flavour and presentation were lovely. Service was faultless.
We met friends here for lunch. It really is delightful, civilised and relaxed. The food and service is exemplary. Slightly formal but in a good way. Not for families or rowdy groups.
Superb! Very tasty food. Attentive and friendly service. Lovely dining room.
What a disappointment after super food and service two weeks ago! It was as if the chef and the good staff had gone on holiday. Very slow service and very poor but expensive food. Took two and a half hours to have two courses in which time we only saw the head waiter twice. Not good enough!
Our favourite place!
Love the tasting menu and wine pairings!
Food was mediocre and forgettable. Have tasted better at gastropubs in the Peak District.
Fantastic food with great service. Everything was perfect. Will go back many times.
Excellent tasting menu enjoyed by four of us with very good service and friendly staff, will definitely go again and would highly recommend
We had a wonderful dinner at the Peacock on 14 June 2019. The food was excellent throughout with impeccable service from the staff.
Fantastic old coaching inn with wonderful authentic old English feel. Staff attentive but not intrusive. Lovely cosy bar area. Menu varied and difficult to choose from. Lovely touch of amuse-bouche and also lovely home made bread before meal. Dining room oozing history from everywhere. Took my 82 year old mum for a special treat and she loved every moment. Superb!
Impeccable service. Wonderful atmosphere. Formal dinner service (Saturday night) -- seated in the bar area and served amuse bouche while reviewing the menu and ordering (also had an excellent glass of wine). After a reasonable wait taken to one of the dining rooms and seated. Meal service outstanding with another excellent glass of wine. Food (mains and dessert) was excellent -- well prepared and presented. Staff very attentive and friendly. If you are in a hurry or want fish and chips, this is not the choice for you. However, if you want a wonderful formal meal you will enjoy this dining experience. A bit more expensive than your average restaurant, but well worth it. Would very highly recommend and would dine here again if in the area.
Excellent lunch well presented by impeccable staff
Amazing food and perfect service.
a special treat of an evening yet very relaxed and not a bit ‘ stuffy’
Wonderful - I even got a birthday card !
Really friendly and attentive staff lovley surroundings, fantastic food . Loved it would highly recommend.
Beautiful food, incredible building and lovely staff. We had such a lovely evening
As always we had a really wonderful meal, in beautiful surroundings and with first class, friendly yet professional service
Great food and service. We has the taster menu with degustation of wines. Absolutely superb. The staff were friendly and attentive. The sommelier clearly knew her stuff and was very informative. Food was outstanding. Only slight downside was a noisy customer, who was not rude but just a bit loud.
We had a delicious lunch for my mum's birthday and all of us thoroughly enjoyed the experience from start to finish. One very small criticism is that I think £5 is very steep for a bottle of still water! I also felt that perhaps some background music might have been nice in the restaurant and bar areas. Otherwise the food was fabulous, in particular the salted caramel parfait dessert and service was equally as excellent.
Had the 2 course Sunday lunch. Not a good experience for one of our party who was not well within 5 hours of eating lunch.
Great atmosphere, welcoming and relaxing. Food served at an ideal pace and was excellent quality. Light lunch worked perfectly for us, will be back.
Excellent. Went for Sunday lunch and were made to feel thoroughly welcome.
We dined and stayed at The Peacock At Rowsley for Valentines evening. The overall experience here was absolutely faultless from start to finish. The venue is fantastic, the decor, ambiance, atmosphere, all superb. The staff here are friendly, polite, courteous at all times, and simply cannot do enough for you. We were blown away by them! The whole experience felt incredibly high-brow and sophisticated, yet very down to earth at the same time. Utterly fabulous in every respect and we certainly recommend this place, will indeed be returning, but... it isn’t cheap (but it is worth it all the same)
A very enjoyable visit, lovely friendly staff and the food is superbly presented as well as being delicious.
We would have no hesitation in revisiting and recommending to friends
Amazing food and service
