Food was superb, we had the lighter lunch menu in the bar. Staff were attentive and friendly. Will definitely be returning.
On the day the sun was shining, we sat outside had a lovely meal and a glass of wine.
The garden is lovely and you can hear the river, we had a very nice time. I would recommend a visit to anyone.
Fantastic little gem! Highly recommend to anyone!
Trying to be fine dining, but missing originality. And extremely over-priced. Staff varied in their ability maitre’d was knowledgeable but waiters lacked training.
We had a tasting menu, food was exceptional and service was very good. I Am shellfish intolerant and the restaurant very kindly
Changed the menu for me which was much appreciated. Only
Disappointment was we arrived early as they suggest in order to have a pre dinner drink in the bar but when we got there we were told the bar was full. Would visit again if we were in the area.
Superb! Outstanding service, amazing food, a perfect evening.
It is very an expensive restaurant and not the best value for money. The food was good but not extraordinary.
Would not hesitate to recommend to anyone. Lovely venue and quality dining.
Dame judi, Ralph, Keira and Colin was right to eat here.
Gary barlow knows his food!!!!
The starters and desserts were acceptable but the quality and quantity of the main course of chicken breast was very poor. The small chicken breast was unrecognisable, being rolled up, rubbery, bland and unappetising in appearance. This was accompanied by a few sad looking, undercooked Oyster mushrooms which were totally inedible with a texture like rubber tubes. We did mention this to the waitress at the time but although she insisted on bringing us some better cooked ones, they weren’t much of an improvement. The rest of the dish consisted of a few dabs of sauces and a croquette of watery potato. The waitress rather gave us the impression that we were the ones at fault for not having an ‘acquired taste for these special mushrooms’. Even if she had thought this, she certainly shouldn’t have voiced it! Probably the worst meal we have ever had out and very poor value for money with over attentive waiters.
We visited for Sunday lunch while on holiday in the Peak District. The hotel itself is beautiful and the staff are very friendly. The food was all excellent - one of the best Sunday lunches we have had! We will definitely be back.
Delicious food - the lighter lunch menu was fantastic value for money. And the staff were extremely attentive and welcoming. Felt safe with all the safety measures they had in place. A wonderful place to go for food and drinks.
Delicious choices that delivered. Excellent presentation and superb flavours textures and combinations. Only slight criticism is that due to Covid the dining room wasn’t busy but the service was slow to painfully slow.
Lovely tasting menu at the Peacock. Delicious food and wine pairings with very friendly service. The tasting menu isn't cheap, but I think the price reflects the quality.
Excellent service, very good food and extremely attentive staff. Lovely meal, my only complaint would be I was unable to leave a tip due to having to pay on card at reception.
Excellent and reliable as always, a pleasure to be back after lockdown.
Outstanding food and service from Dan & the team.
Phenomenal food and service, highly recommend the tasting menu.
We were staying at the hotel so booked an evening meal in the bar for the night of our arrival.
All the covid arrangements were in place and menus were available by scanning a QR code on your phone, although paper menus were available if needed.
The choices were varied and our food was excellent, very high quality and beautifully presented.
The staff were so helpful, and working really hard in extreme heat with masks and gloves on. We really appreciated all their efforts. We enjoyed it so much, we repeated the experience on Sunday night too!
Fantastic location to celebrate a double birthday. Great food and excellent service. Reassured by Covid-19 guidelines being respected.
3D barcode menus fine for us but some might struggle.
Another great lunch
Excellent meal. Took advantage of the Government's £10 pp discount - otherwise a bit expensive.
Absolutely brilliant meal with perfect service and setting.
Not overly impressed this time around. We did like the fact that our temperatures were taken on arrival, that contact tracing was being followed and the fact that the staff were wearing masks and gloves. The food was definitely not the best, other than my husband’s starter of duck ballontine we thought that my starter of crab and the main courses of guinea fowl was very bland. We didn’t have dessert but the petit fours which accompanied the coffee were excellent. However, the government has announced a reduction on vat to 5% on food eaten out and the restaurant have decided not to pass this on to their customers, stating that their costs are very high and they have lost money due to the lockdown. Whilst I do appreciate this I feel that a 15% increase on their menu which is already on the high side is a tad unfair.
Wonderful location, beautiful food, great value for the lighter lunch. Friendly and efficient staff.
Beautiful garden setting, wonderful food, friendly service
Excellent food, service attentive as possible in these strange times, we felt safe at all times.
Fine dining in an olde world setting, with impeccable service. The fish and chips is the finest I ever eat, never bettered, & with wonderful crushed peas instead of yucky mushy! The decaf coffee is super too. Many thanks for a super anniversary lunch.
This was a lovely experience. The food was really enjoyable, the taste was great and it looked just as good. Lighter lunch menu was good value for the quality.
As always a favourite to visit which never disappoints.
The food was extremely good and presented in an elegant setting. We enjoyed a wonderful anniversary dinner in a quiet room and despite the tasting menu not being available, the options were all very good and the desserts specifically were outstanding. Great value for highly skilled cooking and very good service and atmosphere. This place is a true gem in the Peak District.
A really lovely evening with exceptional food. The room was very quiet, which lacked a bit of ambience however the food and service made it a worthwhile visit.
Lovely, creative menu. Staff doing their best in difficult post lockdown circumstances. Atmosphere was a bit quiet but understandable. We were kept distanced and safe - all that matters really! Food was fantastic.
Was great to be back, great food, surroundings and friendly staff, will definitely be back and would recommend for all occasions.
Fabulous food, superb service, wonderfully welcoming staff. Just a lovely experience. Very highly recommended.
Delicious! Very talented chief . Thank you
The food was excellent as well as the service. Staff were friendly and attentive. Thank you. We have a beautiful meal and a lovely time.
Just keep coming back. Wonderful place to relax, eat and quiet conversations with family and friends. The staff team are always professional and approachable.
The lighter lunchtime offering is exceptional quality and value for money presented by attentive professional happy staff.
My wife and I had a wonderful time. Thank you for making her 40th birthday such a memorable one. The food is second to none: so complements to the chef; and the service was superb.
I recommend The Peackcock at Rowsley to anyone who wants to experience fine-dining at its very best.
An excellent meal - the menu is very creative, beautifully presented and delicious. The atmosphere is very relaxed and the service was of a very high standard. A wonderful evening and will definitely return
