Absolutely fantastic afternoon tea at The Petersham Nurseries in Covent Garden. From the delicious rose petal Bellini to yummy savouries, scones and patisserie ... too much to eat - so boxed up and taken home. Seamless, friendly and efficient service - will definitely be returning!
Lovely setting, very good food, and attentive staff.
But lacked a bit of atmosphere. And the wine by the glass was expensive.
But overall I’d recommend.
Too expensive for the quality of food and ambience .. not much options in menu..
First time at the Petersham and first of many, great food and great atmosphere
Petersham has a delightful flowery ambiance reflected its history as a nursery. Plus, the walls are filled with interesting contemporary art. We dined under a Jim Dine. The cuisine is predominantly Italian and service was friendly and efficient.
The room is very pretty. The flowers are lovely, but one should expect that. Food was very good. Our main problem was the noise level. There were 2 large - one 11 people and one 14 people- bachelorette dinners, which made it mind numbing you loud. Private rooms for such events make much more sense.
We had afternoon tea and everything was delicious. The staff were very accommodating and even gave us a round of complimentary drinks for no reason. Couldn't fault the entire experience.
Lovely courtyard setting with delicious fresh food. Wine list was very Italian and had plenty to choose from that was interesting. It was very pricey. I did mention it was my husbands birthday when I booked but they didn’t acknowledge it in anyway.
Fantastic venue with the best food. Very suitable for special situations
Super restaurant! So beautiful and nice atmosphere! Would highly recommend.
Good was good except the bread was cold and hard. Great vibe and friendly staffs
I was not taken away by the food, the quality is ok but for what you eat a bit pricey. The waiter was nice but we had to wait half an hour to get our appetiser which was humours!
wonderful lunch...fish stew was amazing. service was exceptional and overall a wonderful spot
This was the first time I had visited this restaurant and will definitely go again. The staff are delightful very friendly. The food was absolutely delicious. The restaurant itself is very pretty and we were lucky enough to see the wonderful flower arrangements being created.
Wonderful lunch with an elderly friend
We had a great time at The Petersham Covent Garden. We had a seasonal pre theatre meal. The dishes were delicious and well presented. The best Burrata with Vesuvo Tomato I’ve ever had. We were celebrating with my friend’s birthday. The manager John present a lovely ice cream with candles for my friend. Very thoughtful touch. Love the deco and garden theme through out, lots of plants and artistic touch.
Thank you Petersham, we will be back.
Afternoon tea at The Petersham was everything I expected. The atmosphere, scenery and staff were wonderful and the food was delicious.
Don’t really understand the hype ?
Non-meaters don’t come here !!! But they have a great high tea!!
The best food I've ever tasted, lovely service, beautiful surroundings
Beautiful space and very attentive service. Food came very quickly, mains were served within minutes of starter plates being cleared. Food was fine, but not particularly flavoursome. Would love to go to the nursery to see if that rates better.
I have been to this restaurant a few times and thoroughly enjoyed it. This Saturday was a birthday treat for an old friend and we were both so disappointed. From the moment we arrived the service was appalling. We were taken to out table without so much as a Good evening. Once seated we were left with menus for at least 10 minutes. No offer of an aperitif, bread, olives. Eventually we called over a waiter and ordered some wine. Still no offer of bread, olives. After a full glass of wine we still hadn't been approached with regards to ordering anything. I had to wave to get someone's attention so we could order. When I said "Please can we order" his response was a "what do you want?" without so much as a smile or apology for keeping us waiting.
The seafood carpaccio when it arrived was delicious and half way through a basket of bread was dumped on the table with "on the house". The main course which arrived almost immediately after the first course was gurnard which I'd eaten there a few weeks previously and it was delicious. This time the whole plate was swimming in soup rather than sauce and a spoon would have been a good idea!
When I asked for the bill it arrived immediately and the waiter waited with the machine by the table for me to produce my card. I wanted to refuse payment of the service but as it was a birthday treat didn't want to make a fuss. At these prices I expect top service. It was sloppy perfunctory and rude.
On our way out I wanted to mention my displeasure with the manager but nobody was there to wish us good night, not one person asked if we'd enjoyed our meal. Badly trained staff is the only conclusion I can come to.
I shan't be returning in the near future.
Potentially great restaurant let down by poor service - inattentive, slow, ordered wine that didn’t arrive, disappointing. Food was good though and an amazing space / location
Amazing Food Amazing Location very nice Staffs
Service was a little bit slow but the food worth the waiting
very good food and excellent service.we had lovely table in the courtyard
Lovely setting, nice food at a price, poor value wine and expensive extras. Don’t think I’d go back
Had a girly catch-up over a dinner, the service was great as well as the food. Not to many options but well picked. Got a bit busy in the evening but the guys where managing to looking after guests. Lovely atmosphere for a business dinner or a catch-up with your friends!
The evening didn’t start well when the manager rang us and started shouting at us for being late (we were still within the 15 minute overspill time). I don’t think I’ve ever been spoken to so rudely by somebody in the service industry in my life. He was waiting outside the restaurant in a threatening manner. He called me stupid. It was all bizarre. The fact there were mice running round the restaurant wasn’t even the worst part! Don’t go here.
We had the tasting menu and although the food was good it wasn't as good as I was expecting for the money and name.
Lovely setting & staff very friendly but service was very slow. Food very average & didn’t warrant the cost, which was very expensive and complemented the wine menu, which was also overpriced. Overall very disappointing & certainly not the dining experience we expected, which was a shame as restaurant is in a lovely spot & has a relaxing environment although this was tested by the slowness of the service!
Very slow table service and the meat sharing plate completely over-priced and not well prepared at all. Meat was under-cooked, tough and not well presented. At £120 you would have expected much better.
The setting is very pretty and whilst the food is good, it is not excellent. We were rushed to order from the menu, particularly if we wanted the set menu as this had to be done by a certain time. After this point, our waiter seemed very absent and other staff members were serving us. When he did appear, he would come to take orders that we had already given to one of his colleagues. All in all, disappointing service and could be improved.
This is a beautiful oasis hidden away from the hustle and bustle of the London shopping district so could be perfect for a quiet lunch or pre-theatre dinner. The service is also friendly and efficient. However, unfortunately the food is a real let down. It is average at best. I’m not a big eater but the portions are tiny. Presumably to encourage you to order sides, but if you don’t know to do that you’re left pretty hungry. The flavours and execution of the dishes were very underwhelming. The desserts were better, definitely the highlight so at least we left on a high. Table of drunk, noisy girls wasn’t ideal either and was out of place in an otherwise fairly sophisticated venue.
Fabulous lunch meeting up with friends, as nice as expected , great ambience and food and wine
The Petersham Nurseries is a beautiful restaurant with a wonderful reputation for its Richmond original location - But - the staff were sadly lacking in welcome and attention. No service for 20minutes, when it began to rain, putting up umbrellas then moving them to leave 2 of us in the wet - then leaving us to move the tables ourselves to sort it out. And always so annoying when a restaurant puts wine in a bucket away from the table but then fails to fill you up. It wasn’t busy or understaffed, just insufficient attention. Really disappointing experience and despite wonderful food, i wouldn’t want to visit a restaurant where staff make you feel unwelcome.
Had high expectations which unfortunately were not meat! The food was good, however the service was fairly poor - friendly but very slow and had to ask to order drinks, food, coffees etc. For the price you pay you shouldn’t be expected to ask for those. The upside was the food.
Felt service and overall experience sadly no way near the high standard of last time!
Great venue for pre theatre meal, sitting outside was lovely on a warm summers evening.
Potions pretty large - my risotto starter would have worked as a main.
A lovely place to have girly lunch celebrating my fiends birthday, a little hidden gem in Covent Garden.
