Don’t really understand the hype ?
The best food I've ever tasted, lovely service, beautiful surroundings
Beautiful space and very attentive service. Food came very quickly, mains were served within minutes of starter plates being cleared. Food was fine, but not particularly flavoursome. Would love to go to the nursery to see if that rates better.
I have been to this restaurant a few times and thoroughly enjoyed it. This Saturday was a birthday treat for an old friend and we were both so disappointed. From the moment we arrived the service was appalling. We were taken to out table without so much as a Good evening. Once seated we were left with menus for at least 10 minutes. No offer of an aperitif, bread, olives. Eventually we called over a waiter and ordered some wine. Still no offer of bread, olives. After a full glass of wine we still hadn't been approached with regards to ordering anything. I had to wave to get someone's attention so we could order. When I said "Please can we order" his response was a "what do you want?" without so much as a smile or apology for keeping us waiting.
The seafood carpaccio when it arrived was delicious and half way through a basket of bread was dumped on the table with "on the house". The main course which arrived almost immediately after the first course was gurnard which I'd eaten there a few weeks previously and it was delicious. This time the whole plate was swimming in soup rather than sauce and a spoon would have been a good idea!
When I asked for the bill it arrived immediately and the waiter waited with the machine by the table for me to produce my card. I wanted to refuse payment of the service but as it was a birthday treat didn't want to make a fuss. At these prices I expect top service. It was sloppy perfunctory and rude.
On our way out I wanted to mention my displeasure with the manager but nobody was there to wish us good night, not one person asked if we'd enjoyed our meal. Badly trained staff is the only conclusion I can come to.
I shan't be returning in the near future.
Potentially great restaurant let down by poor service - inattentive, slow, ordered wine that didn’t arrive, disappointing. Food was good though and an amazing space / location
Amazing Food Amazing Location very nice Staffs
Service was a little bit slow but the food worth the waiting
very good food and excellent service.we had lovely table in the courtyard
Lovely setting, nice food at a price, poor value wine and expensive extras. Don’t think I’d go back
Had a girly catch-up over a dinner, the service was great as well as the food. Not to many options but well picked. Got a bit busy in the evening but the guys where managing to looking after guests. Lovely atmosphere for a business dinner or a catch-up with your friends!
The evening didn’t start well when the manager rang us and started shouting at us for being late (we were still within the 15 minute overspill time). I don’t think I’ve ever been spoken to so rudely by somebody in the service industry in my life. He was waiting outside the restaurant in a threatening manner. He called me stupid. It was all bizarre. The fact there were mice running round the restaurant wasn’t even the worst part! Don’t go here.
We had the tasting menu and although the food was good it wasn't as good as I was expecting for the money and name.
Lovely setting & staff very friendly but service was very slow. Food very average & didn’t warrant the cost, which was very expensive and complemented the wine menu, which was also overpriced. Overall very disappointing & certainly not the dining experience we expected, which was a shame as restaurant is in a lovely spot & has a relaxing environment although this was tested by the slowness of the service!
Very slow table service and the meat sharing plate completely over-priced and not well prepared at all. Meat was under-cooked, tough and not well presented. At £120 you would have expected much better.
The setting is very pretty and whilst the food is good, it is not excellent. We were rushed to order from the menu, particularly if we wanted the set menu as this had to be done by a certain time. After this point, our waiter seemed very absent and other staff members were serving us. When he did appear, he would come to take orders that we had already given to one of his colleagues. All in all, disappointing service and could be improved.
This is a beautiful oasis hidden away from the hustle and bustle of the London shopping district so could be perfect for a quiet lunch or pre-theatre dinner. The service is also friendly and efficient. However, unfortunately the food is a real let down. It is average at best. I’m not a big eater but the portions are tiny. Presumably to encourage you to order sides, but if you don’t know to do that you’re left pretty hungry. The flavours and execution of the dishes were very underwhelming. The desserts were better, definitely the highlight so at least we left on a high. Table of drunk, noisy girls wasn’t ideal either and was out of place in an otherwise fairly sophisticated venue.
Fabulous lunch meeting up with friends, as nice as expected , great ambience and food and wine
The Petersham Nurseries is a beautiful restaurant with a wonderful reputation for its Richmond original location - But - the staff were sadly lacking in welcome and attention. No service for 20minutes, when it began to rain, putting up umbrellas then moving them to leave 2 of us in the wet - then leaving us to move the tables ourselves to sort it out. And always so annoying when a restaurant puts wine in a bucket away from the table but then fails to fill you up. It wasn’t busy or understaffed, just insufficient attention. Really disappointing experience and despite wonderful food, i wouldn’t want to visit a restaurant where staff make you feel unwelcome.
Had high expectations which unfortunately were not meat! The food was good, however the service was fairly poor - friendly but very slow and had to ask to order drinks, food, coffees etc. For the price you pay you shouldn’t be expected to ask for those. The upside was the food.
Felt service and overall experience sadly no way near the high standard of last time!
Great venue for pre theatre meal, sitting outside was lovely on a warm summers evening.
Potions pretty large - my risotto starter would have worked as a main.
A lovely place to have girly lunch celebrating my fiends birthday, a little hidden gem in Covent Garden.
The courtyard is beautiful and perfect for a summer evening.
Most of the food was delicious but we had Three problems
- kitchen said food would be out in 15 minutes as not busy. In fact arrived after 45 minutes.
- the menu didn't contain all ingredients so the food arrived with ingredients I can't eat.
- It wasn't that busy, but the staff were not visible
To top it all, the waiter went to get the manager when I started to complain. He wasn't available either!!!
Went for a pre theatre meal, got us out quickly, limited course on theatre menu if you are a vegetarian
Very beautiful venue. Loved the plants and the decor and general atmosphere. Service was great and food outstanding. Thank you.
The food is exceptional. So fresh and organic and delicious. Let down by poor service.
Lovely location set back from the hustle and bustle of Covent Garden. Relaxing decor. Great for catch ups with friends and family (definitely mother friendly), or date nights. The food is unpretentious and tasty. Would really recommend this place.
Good food poor service. Dodgy card payment process.
Bread was dry, portions were small. Service was very slow.
Food was ok, but nothing amazing - and certainly not for the price. Service wasn't good at all, I actually asked them to remove the service charge after asking for the bill 4 times with 3 people over 30 mins after we'd finished. I very nearly just walked out as they made me late for my train.
I think if it was half the price, and twice the service, it'd be pretty good, but for what it is it needs I'd avoid ever going back, even if I was being paid for.
We loved this place! The host and staff were amazing. We accidentally went to the Petersham hotel (double check the address when ordering your Uber lol!) and they held our reservation! THEN when we came late the host sent us free cocktails as an apology - when it was our fault we were late!! It really meant a lot. The Rose bellinis were amazing. The food and tea were excellent as well. Definitely a great spot for tea and a cool location as well. Highly recommend!
The food and service were faultless. The attention to detail was impeccable, we had a wonderful evening I cannot recommend enough.
Unusual, interesting menu, some works better than the rest. Extensive, pricey wine list. Service started off really well then became a bit hit and miss as the restaurant got busier.
Il luogo è delizioso e il personale super accogliente, specialmente Ali!
The menu was very fish biased and not what we had expected. The good generally was very bland. The 3 of us had different starters but the only one that had any depth of flavour was the risotto. The burrata was tasteless and had been stored too cold!! The salt cod main to share was flavourless. The other pork main was ok but didn’t wow! The service was hit and miss as we had to repeatedly ask where our drinks and condiments we had requested were. This place is very expensive and we all felt was style over substance. None of us would return unfortunately
Lovely setting and lovely food quality
Food, service and in general everything was amazing. But we saw a Spanish wine in the menu that is 16€ and price at the menu was 110 Pounds, maybe too much?
Lovely venue. Food on the whole was good although duck from the set menu was a bit disappointing.
It would have been great if they could have booked a taxi for me. I explained that my mum was ill. We didn’t know at the time that she was having a heart attack and had to dash outside to find a taxi to take her to hospital.
Was given a terrible table despite having booked in advance and telling them it was a birthday celebration. The service was appalling and they kept giving us the wrong food at the wrong times I.e. serving the ice cream at the beginning when it was meant to come at the end and then coming back and taking it away. We were left alone for half an hour and had to ask when we would be served the afternoon tea
