The Phoenix Whitechapel
Great pub food.
Attended on Monday 20th August with two colleagues. We were welcomed by the host who showed us to our table and served us drinks. We ordered and our food was delivered fairly quickly (10-15 mins). We all enjoyed our food although there could have been more vegetarian choices seeing as they had ran out of all fish products. The only downside for me was the waitress tried to take my plate 3 times while I was still eating (about 1 minute in between each attempt) and didn’t think to ask if I was finished before getting hold of the plate. Aside from this, the food is always nice and there is a great atmosphere. I’d recommend the Phoenix for both food and drinks.
We had a really chilled meal and drinks; nice atmosphere and really great service - especially from the tall Irish fellow!
Unfortunately having pre-ordered for speed our food arrived after 45 minutes. All from the ‘Big Plates’ menu they appeared to be a mixture of big and side orders. The chilli was in a tiny bowl and burgers larger.
The Pan Fried Cod arrived without any of the other items advertised in the menu, as did the chilli and the Piri Piri Flatbread. The Smoked Chicken, Avocado & Poached Pear was mostly chicken skin. The burgers were cold as well as the chips. The cod was reordered and arrived totally different to the first time making us wonder what sort of nightmare was happening in the kitchen!?
All in all a pretty terrible experience leaving those that had been travelling since before 5am still very hungry, disgruntled and tired!
Suffice to say we did not pay.
Meeting lunch for 6 of us. Very impressed!
Some felt the wait to take our order and food to arrive was a bit long. The vegetarian found the options a bit limiting.
Overall though we were very impressed and will be returning.
A nice pub to meet up with colleagues during the festive season at lunch time.
However we were shocked when a friend who was meeting us with his family for lunch was told the pub had a no children policy? I have never heard of this in a pub during the day. A bit disappointing. I understand the general rule of no children after 7pm but lunch time in the City?
Booked a business lunch due to the proximity of the city. Lively bar so get there early. Seated in an area where we could still discuss business. Menu offered a good choice and the food was supper. Our waitress was pleasant and very (not too) attentive.
