The Pink And Lily
Sat, Sun 12:00–16:00
Fantastic food. Absolutely delicious. But service appalling. Had to chase everything, (drinks, pudding, bill, card machine) orders wrong, and extremely slow. No continuity of staff serving table which didn’t help. Need to get their act together before we go back.
Good food, good service and clean and comfortable restaurant.
Chunky chips were amazing, however service was lacking
Lovely lunch in very nice surroundings. The staff went to a lot of trouble to make us feel welcome and made sure we had a nice warm place to sit ( it was unseasonably cold). Everyone was very friendly and helpful.
The staff could not have done more for my Dads birthday and the food, ambience and customer service was outstanding. 6 stars
love the location and ambiance of the Pink & Lilly but found the menu expensive.I had the fish & chips and thought it had an odd flavour & did'nt think the batter was cooked
Lovely food, great location, quiet and perfect for a night out talking over wine/food.
My only criticism was over the menus being offered. Despite my request a few weeks beforehand, I only received the menus the day before the lunch and it wasn't clear from them whether it was for lunch, dinner or both. However, that shouldn't detract from the special lunch itself as everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.
All good. Good god and attentive helpful staff.
The landlady and her staff are extremely friendly and accommodating the food is good and the location and premises are fantastic. I would recommend the Pink and Lily to anyone that I know.
One of the benefits of the web, is once in a while you search and find something truly special. Guess what? Don't even bother reading any further reviews . . . just book for whatever reason and turn up as you want. We wore trainers and shorts on a hot day - the lady across from us was in a formal dress and hat combo. Whatever.
With your 1st drink in hand, talk to the chickens in their pen, sit in a garden pod or let the kids use the sizeable, safe play area, whilst you wait to be seated for a simple dining experience. If you like the thought of quality and quantity making you believe in value again, you will not be disappointed. No plastic, hormone chicken here. No grunting staff. No fuss or stuffiness.
If you want a special occasion venue or a relaxed Sunday lunch like us - just book your date and set the sat-nav to Go.
Staff numbers were too low which meant longer waiting for next course. Also two puddings were no longer available.
However, those ladies serving were gems - friendly and personable. Thank you!
One meal was very good. The fried fish was overcooked, and the pasta of the day needed more salt.
Very beautiful location, great beer garden and good service in trying circumstances, given they were a chef and oven down
Exceptionally disappointing - totally understaffed - service slow/non-existent, had distinctly average starter and main course (port chops) overcooked, fatty and dry 'drowned' in a bland sauce. Got £70 bill for two (we had just 3 drinks), complained, apparently the sole waiter had zero empowerment to do anything to compensate, so asked for manager to call me next day and left details and zero follow up. Avoid.
Met friends there for lunch, we have 2 kids under 4 and they have 3. The pub is very accommodating, large table not disturbing other diners, nice terrace grass area and play area at the bottom for supervised kids - all great. We were told on arrival that there was a problem with an oven and we were even called at-home beforehand...but then nothing more was done to manage that. They didn't give delay times or provide any further information. Our friends were about 20mins late and we then went to order ovenless food (!) to be told orders weren't being taken at all. We asked for the kids food to be put thru (to avoid crowd trouble!) and we had ordered early for our eldest - all of which was accommodated gratefully. But if they had given us a delay time we could have called our friends and ordered earlier. No info was provided when we arrived other than there was an oven off so some things were restricted on the menu (which we didn't order) our food arrived about 90mins after our booking and things like chips weren't cooked properly. I understand the kitchen issues, this was a management issue, they could have established a queue early and been much more upfront about delays. As it was they just waited for the tide of orders and then stopped. We live locally and this pub ticks a lot of boxes ( location, kid friendly, reasonable beer) I think we've been about 4 times in 4 years and on at least 2 of these occasions the service has been severely lacking. Real shame, this pub would be a real winner when front of house gets sorted and the food improves. I sincerely hope it does, we would be regulars if it did improve.
Visited here a few months back and had a fantastic meal. It was certainly very much quality AND quantity! However, this time the food was more about just quality. It was lovely, but extremely small portions for the price. I only had the main course though.
We did find out that it was under new management. Perhaps they could consider reviewing the portion size?
I still wish the management every luck as I feel that it is a glorious place to visit and the service was great.
Have been to the pink and lily for years. Lovely Sunday lunch but could be improved. The veg were great. I had the beef which was a bit fatty/sinuey and the roast potatoes were a bit black in places and tasted as if they’d been reheated more than once. We had to wait 45 mins for our meal which was quite a long time I thought. The staff though we’re lovely.
Service staff were very young and apparently unfamiliar with waiting table but we had no particular issues with speed or quality of service. One of our dessert selections was apparently 'finished' which seemed odd as we were dining at 6pm but my main gripe was the price. Over £50 for two non-steak main courses, a beer and a mineral water is rather excessive.
Not great. We went for a Saturday evening meal with family. It didn't start well as they couldn't find the child's menus so had to write it on a piece of paper. The starters took a while to arrive and when they did they weren't worth the price paid. Child's courses were all £7.50 each which I thought was alot for macaroni cheese. Adult courses were very nice however we all left feeling a bit disappointed.
First time here, came highly recommended from a friend. Decided to try it out for wife’s birthday meal, and it was truly amazing.
3 courses, bottle nice wine and 2 drinks each and the bill was around £90.
Food was amazing and loads of choice.
Waitress made us feel right at home and was such a nice atmosphere.
Deffo recomend a try !!
2 very happy customers who shall be back
Service was poor although staff very friendly. Food very disappointing.
The restaurant is very pleasant and comfortable but I have eaten there several time and the food has always been disappointing and expansive for what it was.
The food was very good and the waiting staff were lovely.
BUT the waiting time between courses was way, way too long. Especially with eldery parents along.
We had nearly £14 of someone else's drinks on our bill, but no one from management apologised. And when settling the bill, I don't expect to be asked if I am paying the tip by card or cash!!!
Our parents have always loved The Pink and Lily so PLEASE sort out the huge wait time and we will probably be back.
Very good food. The waiting staff were very young and somewhat erratic in the standard of service and in things such as clearly and serving plates properly.
Good menu selection. Food very good. Went on a Tuesday night so very quiet but I'd expect Fridays and the weekend are very busy so atmosphere would be better.
Totally lovely place. Set-up up for a number of eating and social options (i.e. quiet couple to the the groups). Highly recommended.
The service was non existent in reality . The experience is so intermittent there as it can be so good which is why we try and give it a go ! It looked like they had run out of beef as there were two small bits of meat hidden beneath 4 huge potatoes. The green veg was late. The drinks we requested arrived after we had finished dining ! ( "Sorry I put the order in the system !" ) I am really sad to report this. The only way is up !
Wednesday night (7th Feb) was really cold outside but it was lovely and warm inside. It was very quiet.
The food was reasonable but I thought a little on the pricey side for what it actually was.
Considering the menu was only half a dozen mains and it was so quiet, I expected more.
I was surprised at how little choice there was. When I checked online the following day, the "Sample Menu" was considerably larger than the actual menu.
Staff were welcoming and friendly but I don't recall them checking if we'd been before. Had they done so then perhaps they would have explained why such little choice - but to be fair, we could have asked as well.
I may well return but not before I try other similar venues.
It wasn't by any means a bad experience but I left disappointed.
Despite the food being nice, this isn't the place to go for dinner on a Saturday night. Waited a long time for food without hearing anything, although it materialised fairly promptly after questioning. Staff became less and less interested in serving as the meal went on and were more interested in having their own food and texting behind the bar. Quite a different experience to our previous visit when we had a lovely Sunday roast and the service was good.
On a freezing cold day with the pub half empty we had to wait 45 mins for a couple of soups! No-one offered us a choice of breads for the sandwich we ordered: white was just dished up. Just when we were deciding whether to stay for a dessert, the waiter brought the bill. Unasked. So we took the hint. And we won't be going back. Very disappointing.
Very nice Sunday lunch. Staff were a bit overloaded, so service was a bit slow.
Service was excellent, waitresses were very attentive and food was very good but it was very cold in The Snug (& the rest of the bar area or we would have asked to be moved). The fire in The Snug was not lit and the fire in the bar area kept going out! Other customers were obviously feeling the cold too. We were well wrapped up but still felt very chilly. My feet were frozen (with socks and boots!). The cold unwelcoming temperature spoilt our halfway meet up with friends.
An enjoyable meal in warm and friendly surroundings - will visit again.
We made a late booking for a special family birthday lunch on the Sunday before the Christmas weekend. Although busy, they found room for us, and we were delighted with the meal of newly roasted beef and pork loin with superb roast potatoes and fresh vegetables. The landlord and his team richly deserve full praise.
Nice place, friendly staff, decent food and service, at a reasonable price. Surprising that the place was almost empty on a Friday lunchtime. Maybe it's not posh enough for the local clientele. Last month we went to a pub a couple of miles away where the cheapest main was £16 and it was rammed!
Table of eight for Sunday Lunch for Mums Birthday, Lovely roast, great service and good value too, Fab Sunday Afternoon had by all
Very nice and cosy country pub.
Welcoming staff but most of all, outstanding food.
Lovely fresh local produce.
Lamb Shank & Pork Chop were to die for.
Would highly recommend it to anyone visiting. :) :)
I will not be coming again and would not recommend it to anyone else.
The food was well presented and tasted good. The service was attentive and friendly. The venue is reasonably modern within an old building but retaining its charm. There were a few cobwebs that could have benefitted from a ‘spring clean’ but you could argue that just added ‘charm’. I would recommend this venue and I will be returning!
