Very disappointed this time. Took friends after recommending it to them. Prawn cocktail looked like nothing I have seen before. Few small shrimps! Smaller portion steak pie more pastry than meat and huge mound of red cabbage. Carrots sliced diagonally -Huge not appealing. Fish and chips dry. Disappointing after several excellent meals.
Waitress very pleasant
We were greated warmly then asked to get a drink at the bar as the table was not quite ready,We did this ,I did feel the price of a coke for my daughter was very expensive. We waited about 5 minutes then I asked if our table was ready as it was our time we had booked,After another 5 minutes it was ready. Our orders were taken after a short wait and the food arrived promptly. All the meals were correct and well presented,I did have to ask for a jugof gravy as I had a roast dinner with just a dribble of gravy on my meat.I ordered a small plate but it was still a decent size.We were offered the pudding menu and some of us ordered pudding. These cam e correct and well presented. All the food was delicious. We asked for the bill and also had a suprise of a cracker each for the mums because it was mothers day.My daughter was also happy with the sweets we recieved with the bill.
Lovely pub. We weren't there for a Mother's day meal, it was the only time long distance relatives could all get together. However we only had the choice of the Mother's day menu which makes very limited. None of the usual favourites such as burgers or lasagne or meat pies which the men were hoping for. Everything else was lovely, but the limited menu (pretty much roast or vegetarian pie) was disappointing.
My friends and I go to The Plough for a catch up a few times a year. One of my friends is vegetarian and can always find something to eat so she is happy with going there. The only issue we had was that the portions of vegetables are very small, we would prefer more.
While the food is good the service is very poor. We arrived for our reservation to be told our table was not ready. No problem, we waited in the bar for 25 minutes and then went back to find they’d forgotten about us and had no table for us. They eventually found us a table, but it wasn’t laid up fully and they didn’t sort it out. We then waited another 15 minutes before we gave up and went to the bar to get someone to take our food order. After our food arrived we again waited for a very long time and eventually had to call someone over to order the children’s ice creams. They then came out with the wrong flavours. We asked for dessert menus and waited 15 minutes for those. After another 20 minutes we gave up, went to the bar to pay and had dessert and coffee at home. I’m not very impressed with the service at all. Last week I was there someone ordered a slice of cake only to be given a plate and told “you’ll have to pick it up with your fingers, I don’t know where the tongs are” he also wasn’t offered any cutlery to eat his cake with. Such a shame as the pub is lovely.
Often visit the Plough when visiting my father in Soton. On out last visit the menu seemed much smaller in choice and the food was just average but service was good.
The coq au vin was tasteless .the chicken tough and the cabbage not cooked enough.
The mushroom was swamped with pasta and very little sauce.
The desserts were very nice.
Service was slow, especially the time taken for food to be brought out and the pub wasn't busy at the time. It took an hour for our food to come out which resulted in us having to rush our meals due to needing to get my daughter to work
Our first visit and we really enjoyed it. Great service a little slow but still worth it.
Arrange to meet up with old school friends so it was a mini school reunion . Great food . Great company . Lovely refit .
All good ,food and service as usual.hope to be dining there very soon again.
Went for a sunday lunch on a very cold day . The staff were lovely and the food was delicious it was just unfortunate that we were sat right by the back door which was opened every two minutes by people coming in and out . It was freezing and it would have been nice if the wood burner next to us had been lit . When i book again will def ask for a different seating. Otherwise the roast was really delicious and the staff were really nice and attentive considering how busy they were
very good service and the food was excellent.. 100%
Completely changed from what it used to be, food incredibly over priced and rubbish servings. Was made clear there was one chicken roast left and when it came to ordering it was still free so I asked for it then half a hour later a waiter came over and said sorry but just as you were looking at the avalibility someone else was too so your have to have somthing else. If I knew this earlier I would have left the restraunt as I'm a fussy eater.
It took so long for a waiter/waitress to come over and we spent over a hour waiting for out bill! Over a hour waiting on food too and our drinks were only filled half up and when asked for a jug of water the lady said yes but never brang it. Defiantly would not reccomend it!!
Excellent Sunday lunch very pleasant staff nice atmosphere. Have also celebrated a family birthday here.
Thankyou very much for a great meal on Sunday. We were a large group celebrating 2 family birthdays and we felt well looked after by the staff at the pub. The childrens play area outside was a huge bonus as the little ones were able to run about together while we relaxed. The food was all well timed, tasty and fresh. We will be back!
When the Plough was opened after its refurbishment, it was wonderful. The food great; the atmosphere great. It had that cosy, special feel about it. Now, although it still has that lovely feel about it, I have found that the atmosphere has got less intimate. I understand that it is very difficult to keep noise levels down, and some people have naturally loud laughs, but it can be off-putting. The food choices have become quite staid and not very exciting. We have found that the steaks have been tough and chewy. It is a great shame because it is local to us and we really like the place. The service is second to none. The staff very polite and willing to help with anything.
1. Difficult a situation though this is it would be beneficial for staff to have a quiet, polite word with the 'guardians' of young children perpetually coming in and out of the restaurant via an outside door on a cold night necessitating a group of young adults needing to be moved away from that door.
2. For us the only downside to an excellent meal was that the manager, Steve, a university friend of our younger son, was not on duty!
God food, friendly staff and a nice and relaxed ambience. A very goof evening. Thanks
Sunday roast was huge, nice fresh food. Good decor & atmosphere. Attentive & polite service.
Visited for an early birthday meal with family. Food was ace and even brought out new veg as the first lot weren’t Cooked enough for my wife, not a problem at all. Staff very friendly and helpful!
I go to this restaurant from time to time. This time there was an improvement in that the waiting staff were attentive during the meal. I also did not have to wait for them to bring the bill or the card machine. Well done!
Would of scored higher but coffees arrived cold and the roulade came still heavily frozen.
New Year's Eve lunch with family and friends. Excellent service and delicious food.
We went as a group of 4 adults, 3 children & 1 baby and had a truly lovely time at The Plough. Our waitress, Julie, was outstanding- really friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend for families- lovely play area in the garden too!
Decided to book a table at the last minute, had no problem booking online for the time that suited me. On arrival we were made very welcome, we were given plenty of time to choose from the menu. The food was excellent, well presented. The waiting staff were very friendly and accommodating, unfortunately I cannot remember his name.
Was missing my honeyed glazed carrots (apparently you didn't have any) and didn't like the savoy cabbage whatever the herb/spice used was dreadful. However everyone else thoroughly enjoyed theirs
Very cosy decor and relaxing surroundings. Nice welcome. Very helpful and pleasant service with tasty food and real ale at a reasonable price. As on previous occasions my wife and I had a most enjoyable experience and thoroughly recommend the Plough to all."
We enjoyed our lunch with our friends very much. They were happy for us to stay on after lunch so we could continue our catch up.
Diner for four was well presented, reasonable portions and friendly, helpful service. The whitebait was excellent and un-breaded, and the venison stroganoff was full of flavour and very tender. Will certainly return here for diner or lunch or just a quiet drink by the fire. Also very dog friendly
An excellent evening.Staff were very accommodating and a very fun atmosphere during a special seasonal quiz which we thoroughly enjoyed
Fantastic place , good food and most of all attentive waitress . Thank you
Had a lovely vegetarian burger, my friend had one of the pies which she said was delicious. The pub has a lovely ambiance and the service is superb. They also do a great sandwich at lunch times.
Food was delivered promptly and was hot - dessert was great and was all served by an excellent waitress.
While I'd love to have had a perfect night out, and the Plough is beautiful and the staff are absolutely delightful, the food was so disappointing.
I just didn't enjoy the coq au vin at all - veg were missing (replaced on request) and it was soggy and bland.
Ah well, such is life. Your staff are charming however.
Had lovely meal with lovely staff. A slight criticism was the lack of vegetarian options
Good atmosphere with value for money and very good service. Will certainly visit again
Not been on a Sunday before and was disappointed.
The Saturday menu was usually very good, but the Sunday Roast yesterday was really poor. Meat was awful and veg were overdone.
May go back on Saturdays for the full menu options but eont be going back for their Sunday lunch menu
The meals are very small and quite expensive. Only went there as everywhere else around were fully booked. Bring prices down a bit I think you will get more customers.
Booked table for 10 for family get together with the majority of diners travelling from Essex. Was apprehensive as it’s a long way to come for lunch. I eat here regularly and have never been disappointed. Sunday was no exception with everything being just right and the service in particular was brilliant. Am looking forward to spending New Years Eve there with my more local family.
