As always great service, and a friendly comfortable and safe place to enjoy great real ales and great company. Staff are always very friendly .
Love the outside ambience and table service, hope you keep it after the 19th
No food available, apart from snacks, but drinks and service excellent.
Friendly, efficient, quick service. Didn't eat (evening booking).
Great traditional pub, good quality real ale, great friendly bar staff
N.b. Ignore the score for food because the kitchen was closed, however I have to put a star rating by the food to continue to the next part of the review……
Firstly, as always the welcome, the service and the general “feel” was excellent. I was well looked after, enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere, and felt like a valued customer.
However, for the first time ever, I have to express a concern about the beer. As always, I order from the guest ale list, and my first pint of a guest pale ale was slightly cloudy. It tasted ok, and as is my habit, I ordered a different beer as my second pint. This was a guest IPA, and it looked like dishwater. I queried it and was told that most of the guest beers were cloudy and I could return it if it were poor. It was very poor, and I returned it, choosing a pint of porter as the replacement. Sadly the weather was dull, so I couldn’t easily check the clarity, however it tasted fine.
Anyway, to end my lunchtime “watering”, I decided to opt for a pint of London Pride from the “house ales” list, which I know should be crystal clear if it’s in top condition. Sadly, although it again tasted OK, it was clearly slightly murky, so it would appear that this venue needs to pay a little more attention to its beer stewardship and piping cleanliness.
I will be back, because I value the service, staff, atmosphere and choice of ales, however I do hope that on my next visit the issue with the murky ale will have been fully understood and addressed.
Based on this last visit, I would not recommend this pub to a friend, however, normally it is a pub I would be heartily recommending.
excellent service, love the new extended outdoors with separate smoking section.
Wine has improved (we are not beer drinkers) and will definitely return with other groups of friends to sit outside.
No half-baked app, just friendly staff. Beer as good as ever. A very pleasant evening.
They have a good selection of non-commercial beers 🍻
Very good and prompt service
No food served due to Covid but the evening was great. Once again our dog was catered for with a dish of water and there was very little wait for our drinks order. Staff so friendly and pleasant
Great beer and a safe environment! Well done to Cheryl and her team.
Great pub, good selection of beers and ales. Very nice atmosphere and the staff are very helpful. Special shout out to Ed who was amazing at accommodating our party. Five stars for Ed!
Always a top quality evening. Their beer is first rate, especially their own brew (a Porter, brewed by Ascot Brewing Co. 4.7abv, dark, complex, tasty but also quite light). The bar team are going out of their way to help punters relax during these Covid times.
Great system in place - good to feel safe in these worrying times. Staff are very good - attentive and polite. My favourite place for a refreshing pint ... always a great choice 👍
Great pub thanks nice day service was great and staff very friendly thanks Lee Marsh
Didn't have any food. Beer great. Table sticky (guess that's the beers fault.)
Lovely to be in the pub again. Very quiet though due to circumstances. Our dog was made very welcome with a dish of cold water. Good beer as usual and friendly staff
Great service. Easy booking pandemic system. Great to be back in a real ale pub.
To help soaking the alcohol, perhaps even a little choice of either fries or scotch eggs would help. But overall, excellent pub and atmosphere.
A good, friendly local. Staff always make you feel welcome.
A regular stop for great ale. When I have eaten it's always been good quality and value, especially on their BBQ event days. Ale drinkers know that this place is an oasis in a desert of chain pubs selling 'dead' food and beer. Last night the team introduced me to their NEW own beer. Not a rebranded job from a regular supplier but one that they had crafted themselves. The new Porter is a beer that tasts almost like a complex stout, is perfectly pitched at 4.7% abv and as tasty as they come - highly reccomended if, like me, you're bored stiff of the over hopped American (joke) IPA style stuff being pushed by the big boys. Say hello to the team for me and maybe I'll get a free pint - firsat time for everything :)
Great time yesterday and the Princely Porter was a very welcome surprise😉. Staff were great (as always) and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming.
Warm welcome with all the correct guidelines in place for a very well kept pint and also good to be back inside.
Had to answer question on 'eating' in order to do overall & other ratings, but not relevant at my visit as dining facilities only opened post-Covid restrictions on the following day. Prince of Wales is however a lovely real ale pub, stocking a good, frequently-changing range of good guest ales & stouts, also a guest cider.
No problem with set up of Pub, in terms of seating and welcoming.
Customer service was good.
A real let down, was having the kitchens closed on a Friday lunchtime, and basically only offering Crisps and Nuts as a food option.
Great time yesterday. Cheryl’s team worked hard in keeping us ‘refreshed’ throughout our visit. Great job!
Realise its tricky with lockdown, but it could have still beca lot better than it was. Not a great first experience going back to a pub. Appeared to cater better to regulars more than visitors. Very cold (not their fault, but could have done a lot more to help keep people warm.
Great pub with a wide selection of ales and craft beers, backed up with excellent service in these challenging times. A must to visit!
Only bar snacks offered at present but the beer range is excellent as usual despite the pandemic restrictions.
Beer, company and service was excellent!! The pallet tables very poor, with huge gaps! Shame the only food available was over price sausage rolls and crisps!! We took our own picnic though!!! Good to be back though!! Thank you!!
Obviously no food because the restaurant was closed (I scored 5 stars for the pork scratchings and twiglets!) however this was a welcome, well organised return to a relaxed lunchtime enjoyment of a couple of pints a really good local real ale.
Despite possible lack of trade post lock down, there were still at least 6 guest ales to enjoy alongside the “house” 4 ales. I enjoyed a pint of local bitter, a mild & bitter (with half of the bitter I’d started with) and a stout to finish, served in a mug, with a smile and warm, courteous efficiency. Thank you to all at Prince of Wales. Roll on retirement when I could visit every day instead of just the occasional Friday lunchtime!!
Hi, no food at this visit due to covid but plenty of bar snacks available
Turns out they didn't do food.
When we arrived the girl had obviously have the problem before
She told me it was on website
When we got home had a look. there was a list of about 30 items and it was 2 thirds of way down
Very glad to be back 'home' after all this time. As always the beer was superb, nice to see such a good selection even though other pubs appear to be suffering with their supply. There was no food except for sausage rolls, and no jalapeno pretzels but let's give everything a chance to get back to normal. Nice to see familiar faces, and new ones. Will be booking again very soon.
Great pub, always friendly and with a great selection of beer
Great pub with a good selection of craft beers, however there were too many log burners which was uncomfortable at times, too much smoke. Would be better with electric or gas heaters!
Lovely to get out and have a beer or two. Thanks to all at the PoW😉
Booked 1 table for Birthday celebration. Great set up in the car park, great service, good choice of beer.
Will definitely book again.
Good service but outside only 1 outside heater for garden
Love this place. Have missed it. Currently no food but didn't mind that
