The Puffing Billy Inn
We offer a dynamic, seasonal menu of locally sourced produce inside a cosy, recently revamped stylish interior. We change our menus regularly and have a daily changing specials board utilising local produce. On Sundays we offer a superb selection of roast dinners.
Lovely staff and ambiance. However the food was a little disappointing. Fish cakes had large lumps of uncooked potato in. Beetroot salad was mediocre. The wrap and chips were delicious! The pork bap was disappointing.... would be nice if it was pulled pork.
On the whole we probably wouldn’t eat here again but would definitely come for a glass of wine and enjoy the lovely atmosphere. We had heard from a few other people that the food had gone down hill. Perhaps not enough help in the kitchen to deal with all the covers?
Very good food and pleasant environment only let down by very slow service. Our starters didn't arrive for 30 minutes and the mains another 20 minutes after the starters had been cleared. The place wasn't full and the staff were spending a lot of time at the kitchen hatch waiting for dishes to arrive
Great pub, lovely character, had a great evening.
Would definitely go back
A lovely place either to meet friends for a drink or to eat. Meals are very nice but suitably priced. Staff are lovely. I come here a lot and will continue to do so.
Delighted with overall standard and service, in a lovely setting
The Puffing Billy is the most beautiful and cosy pub. The staff are attentive and the food came out extremely quickly. The Sunday Roast was one of the best we’ve ever had! We will be back to try most items on the menu and another Sunday Roast.
At times waiting staff could be a little over attentive. Wine glasses removed before being able to order wine with our meal and then had to ask for the the glasses to be brought back after wine had been ordered as they had not noticed we did have glasses. Spoon not delivered with dessert. The bread rolls would have been better if they had been warmed up as they seemed a little stale.
Love the selection but of gins. Choice of food was amazing. Portion sizes excellent and served in a timely manor. Great seating area and fabulous location to the station that meant no one had to drive. Would definitely go again. I personally ordered the steak, I love it to be Bleu however this is rarely achieved anywhere as in this occasion but equally delicious.
First visit and it didn't disappoint. The food was lovely, portions are generous, staff are very friendly and there is a lovely atmosphere in there. Menu is higher priced than our usual restaurants but with the bonus of Military discount means we can visit more often. Already planning our next visit and have recommended to others.
Beautiful surroundings, staff very welcoming, knowledgeable and friendly. Portion sizes were perfect and everything was cooked to perfection. Would recommend
Lovely food, friendly staff and great service. Comfortable premises with car parking really close.
We had a meal on Saturday & Sunday. Saturdays meal was standard really. Wife had fish & chips, which to be honest, fish was a touch over cooked. Too dry insted of moist. On Sunday we had a traditional Sunday roast. My wife had beef and i had pork. We both said it was the best Sunday roast we have had for a long time, and plenty of it too! Cooked to perfection.
Brilliant as always well done see you soon when we are next down south
Overall, a very satisfactory experience. The service was a little slow , clearly the result of a maximum number of customers for Sunday lunch. The staff were helpful and competent, they were coping with a very large number of people.
The food, as ever, excellent for both diners at my table.
Lovely setting, lovely food and really good beer. Can’t go wrong, will be back for sure.
We are regulars and can honestly say we have never been disappointed.Food is hot and delicious.
Staff are happy and eager to please.
We had a beautiful meal at the Puffing Billy. The food was very well cooked. Came out in a decent time, and was well presented. The staff were very friendly and attentive to us on a busy Friday evening. Would highly recommend.
The service and food were phenomenal. Enjoyed every mouthful of tonight’s meal! The only downside was that it was quite warm in the restaurant area.
As a first time diner at this establishment I was thoroughly impressed by the service that my friends and I received
The food was delicious and the raspberry gin was very refreshing
Will definitely be a returning diner
comfortable surroundings, friendly knowledgable staff, extensive menu with good vegetarian options
First time we've eaten here. As we live in Lympstone, we normally go to one of our own village pubs particularly when we have family and grandchildren staying with us, or else we go to Exmouth
Really liked the layout of the Billy and the quality of the recent extension there. A welcoming space with solid, but modern dining furniture. Nice relaxed atmosphere on a summer Sunday evening. Not too hectic or noisy at this time.
Responsive service and very good food quality, particularly the roasts. Generous portions.
Would certainly come here again, particularly if we can co-ordinate our next visit with the local train timetable!
Compares well with the Lympstone pubs.
Gastro pub. Excellent local by bike path Exeter Exmouth. Good wine list. We just had a Sunday lunch. I thought the vegetables were tasty but a bit dull conventional. Excellent dart farm meat and gravy
Great choice. Lovely food. Good service. Great for veggie and meat eaters.
Overall experience excellent.
I would not book open the open table again purely because it was so hot and very noisy but I would definitely go again.
Plates hot and wide menu.
Enjoyed a lunch with friends in a very pleasant pub with very good customer service. Pleased that small portion meals were on the menu for those who wanted less and plenty of cold water was available without asking. Food was great, would definitely recommend the Puffing Billy.
The puffing billy inn is a nice pub for food and drink. The pub has ample out door seating and a park opposite.
Really ever been let down at this unique pub, thanks so much .
Good atmosphere , great service .. in the main food was good and well presented. Only issue was desert .. apple crumble .. presented well but crumble was raw ... we were offered an alternative but moment had passed 😌
We have been to the Puffing Billy before and it never disappoints. Staff very friendly and helpful. Food delicious and served promptly considering how busy the are
My friend and I visited the Puffing Billy and were very impressed with the decor and overall ambience of the place. We enjoyed a drink in the restful bar area before being shown to our table. We then enjoyed a delicious meal, a bit pricey but well worth it. I would definitely recommend the Puffing Billy to my friends, in fact, I have already been enthusing about it. Can’t wait for my next visit.
We came here for a meal to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary as we were staying in Exmouth and my husband had read glowing reports about it. We were not disappointed. The food was lovely, the staff were great and it had a lovely relaxed feel to it. We would definitely recommend it.
Enjoyed a lovely evening, restaurant was very busy but the food and the service was top class, would recommend to everyone
Good parking/ac essible
Good quality locally sourced food
We enjoyed our meals, it was very quiet being a Monday lunchtime, have been before on a Sunday lunchtime, it was very busy then. We thought it was a little expensive but we will probably go again
Brilliant lovely food lovely staff always choose here for a meal when we are in Exmouth thank you
Really nice venue, excellent service and menu and really good value for money.
Fantastic friendly service, great food. Highly recommend
Lovely friendly reception by staff and great ambiance.
Good service although a bit of a gap between courses, but it was extremely busy.
Staff were excellent and I’d definitely recommend to anyone.
Lovely pub restaurant good choice of food specials were particularly delicious
Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area
Really (like REALLY) lovely food, extremely accommodating staff, and a generally gorgeous place. The options for everyone were equally delicious - we had a vegan and a few vegetarians in our party - and as an extra touch we were given a free dessert platter as a congratulations for the graduation we were celebrating. Overall, a place that made a special occasion even more special.
I really like it there and staff are friendly but service is very slow. We booked before the rush and everything took so long, I wouldn’t like to be there at peak times.
