Service was very poor, we waited 15 minutes for them to produce a second pot of tea, and only 4 other tables were occupied at the time, so couldn’t claim they were busy! Waiters were quite brusque and surprised when I asked for the discretionary service charge to be removed.
Booked the Pump Room for my husband's 86th Birthday tea. He has Alzheimer's and, as we are reading Jane Austen out loud at home, it seemed appropriate to keep the 'theme' going. We were not disappointed. Lovely tea, lovely piano playing, lovely room, lovely weather, lovely sitting on deck chairs in lovely Parade Gardens later (lovely gate attendant there!)... Think by now, you've got the message!
Very expensive but hey whilst in Bath etc...….
I had pre-booked my table but after being shown to it I had to wait a long time for a server to take my order, and it wasn't that busy
Went to give visitors an English afternoon tea experience. Could not have chosen a better venue; white linen, excellent "tea", great service and classical music in the background. They were suitably impressed.
The food is good and at a very reasonable lunchtime set menu price. The ambience is very good too, with a pianist, and later a trio playing well known musical standards and classical pieces quietly in the background. But the service, although friendly, was very slow. The lunch took well over two hours with long waits between courses.
Estupendo afternoon tea con música clásica en directo. El salón es muy bonito y el servicio muy bueno. Calidad precio muy bien. Lo único que eché en falta es más variedad de tés, lo demás fantástico. Lo recomiendo.
Excellent experience at the pump rooms for afternoon tea. One of our party required a gluten free diet and was extremely well catered for. The staff were kind and helpful and obviously the setting was breathtaking.
A very special dining experience not to be missed. The food was outstanding and there was a lovely ambience with the pianist and the trio playing in the background.
A fantastic venue for a really special meal / experience, exceeded expectations. Food was fabulous.
We were entertaining my son’s future in laws ( Italians)by taking them to The Pump Room. They thoroughly enjoyed a wonderful English meal in a delightful setting.
Great experience and lovely venue. Good service and enjoyed the live music
Each interaction with staff was an absolute delight! Charming, flexible, and accommodating about a later arrival (via phone). Warmly greeted, swiftly seated, with constant friendly, upbeat service (in person). Wonderful experience - thank you!
Classically English elegance ...wonderful venue ...my second visit
We have taken afternoon tea at the pump rooms many times but this time was extra special as we had American friends over and they were very impressed with the whole experience
Perfect environment lvly ambience. Our food with delicious . A delightful time had by us all.
The food was a little average with stake wilted watercress, and crumpet under cooked but stodgy. Prosecco was nice. Piano a little loud as we were sat right next to it
One should never ever have to queue with walk ins if you’ve made a reservation- and that’s just what the pump room makes you do - appallingly. Just over priced rubbish for tourists who don’t know how much they are actually being charged. We could have had tea at the Ritz for what we were charged. London has much better value tea rooms in five star hotels. The hot spring water was good though.
I loved my Afternoon Tea at the Pump Room. The room is lovely, especially the chandelier. The waltzes played by the pianist, violinist, and cellist really added to the atmosphere. The food was delicious and filling. And, imagine: salmon mousse with caviar! Very posh!
My server was the sweetest young man, and really, I had a wonderful time!
We had a lovely time .enjoyed the food and loved the music
As part of our fortieth wedding anniversary trip to Bath I booked champagne afternoon tea for Monday, 9 September. The booking was made some month ago. On arrival we were met by a receptionist who seemed quite annoyed when my wife cheerily stated that we had a reservation. The receptionist took the paperwork and threw it in the wastepaper basket while demanding if we had a voucher. No, we had email confirmation (which was in the wastepaper bin). She was very impersonal, as were the staff who did not all seem particularly happy in their tasks.
Although when booking I had stated this reservation was for a special occasion as mentioned above, there was no acknowledgement to this fact, which was even more disappointing as individual birthdays were being celebrated around us.
The sandwiches were very bland and to see the waitress peering into the champagne bottle to see what was left before pouring was incredulous - she then had to go away and get a further bottle to finish filling our glasses!! While we do not expect a bottle being opened just for us, we would have thought that it would have been polite to at least have enough champagne in the bottle to fulfill the task.
This is our third experience of an afternoon tea/champagne occasion at different venues and if this had been the first it would certainly have been the last.
Overall a very disappointing experience as we would have expected better from this establishment,. Not good value and we would recommend people to spend their money elsewhere.
The service and food were lovely and of course the venue is very beautiful. The only disappointment was that when I booked the table I was given the option to say if it was for a special occasion. I ticked the 'birthday' option as the lunch was a surprise treat for my mum on her birthday. While we were dining a few other people were presented with a small cake with a candle by their waiter, clearly celebrating birthdays too. This didn't happen for my mum however. It would be preferable if this kind of gesture wasn't done if it's not consistent.
Good food, reasonably priced, breathtaking setting.
Loved the music. The service was great, however the scones were stale and served cold. The latter let the experience down from my point of view.
We’ve always come to the Pump Room whenever we’re in Bath, so we just had to book a table for lunch whilst we were visiting on Sunday. I booked through Open Table, and ticked the ‘Special Occasion’ box, letting them know that it was my Mum’s 70th birthday. We were greeted warmly, served promptly, and ordered our food. I had the Clarence Court duck egg, and my Mum had the cod fish cakes. Both meals were absolutely delicious! The presentation and taste were spot on. The service was outstanding-our waitress was clearly busy, but nothing was too much trouble. My Mum was already delighted with her lunch, but when the pianist began to play Happy Birthday, and the waitress brought out a cup cake and candle, she was blown away! All the other diners clapped, and wished her a happy birthday. This was a lovely, unexpected touch, which has made my Mum’s birthday weekend. I can’t thank you enough. We’ll obviously be back!
Lovely afternoon tea. Great atmosphere. Great tasting food. Accompanied by music. Worth the visit. Need to make reservations on the weekend!
I enjoyed my high tea in this elegant setting accompanied by classical music provided by a 3 piece ensemble. However I found it somewhat overpriced for the amount and type of food.
This is certainly one of the most outstanding places for afternoon tea in the West of England and probably the whole country. All counts: quality, service, decoration, the building itself...
The Pump Room’s location (next to the Roman Baths) and ambience understandably draws in a huge number of visitors. However, this shouldn’t excuse the restaurant’s rude service. We were greeted by a dismissive hostess who seemed to be thoroughly annoyed that we had booked a table. The waitress who served us was equally rude: inattentive and extremely condescending when we were placing our order and wanting to enquire more details about the food.
The superb quality of the food was the only reason we didn’t walk out. Even still, the experience was not worth the visit. We would definitely recommend not wasting your time.
Very elegant setting with good service and quality food.
We were shown straight to our table without having to queue. The friendly waiter took our order promptly and our drinks arrived straightaway, with only a short wait for the food. Both main courses, were excellent. The lamb especially was melt in the mouth and the portions were really generous. The puddings especially were delicious, we both had a fruit tart with cream absolutely delicious. The restaurant was busy but we did not feel rushed at any time, which was nice. The set lunch was good value too. It would have been nice if they have the music playing all the time, it was quite a long break between the trio finishing and the pianist is taking over, the music is definitely part of the whole experience and without the music playing the chatter in the restaurant does seem quite loud, but still well worth 5 stars. We will be back soon!
The Pump Room is an impressive location that oozes history. However, there are so many places in Bath with better food. The scones were solid and the clotted cream was great. My 9-year-old loves the chicken sandwiches, and my daughter loved the ham sandwiches. Everything else was average. The service is on the slow side, but the live five piece classical near-orchestra performing the whole time really made up for a lot of other shortcomings. Would recommend to a friend, but just order tea and sandwiches, perhaps.
I was given a 3 course lunch voucher as a present so was really looking forward to visiting and eating at the Pump Room. Initially everything was OK but then we had to chase up our main courses (about 25 mins wait from starter). We then had an even longer wait for our desert only to find that the order had not been put through. I understand mistakes can be made but we were not afforded an apology. To make matters worse when the bill was presented it included a discretionary service charge - That was really the final straw. If one person had come up and said sorry for the poor service I would have gone away much happier than I actually did. I would not recommend to anyone.
Sehr schöner Tea Room mit hervorragender Auswahl an Afternoon-Teas. Dazu musikalische Begleitung durch ein Terzett.
This was a birthday treat for my daughter, so I pre-booked to make sure we got a table. This was for afternoon tea. The Pump Room has a great atmosphere. We were thoroughly enjoying our tea when the orchestra struck up with Happy Birthday, and the whole room clapped! And there was a cake and candle too! The staff were so kind and attentive. My daughter said it was the best birthday surprise ever!
Food fantastic ,staff were amazing , overall the whole experience was outstanding.Thank you All for A wonderfull Afternoon. We will definately book again sometime in the future....
Good food at a OK price, service could have been better,
Fantastic evening celebrating a birthday with friends. Food choice was really nice and the service was very good, although a bit of oversight as couple of our sides were not served. As it happened, we did not really miss them and so no harm done. Overall a really lovely experience, with great food and a really nice choice of drinks all reasonable priced. We all really enjoyed the piano player as well
Thank you very much for the lovely time and the special anniversary cake! The piano playing was beautiful. All the staff were very polite, kind and generous.
We are looking forward to coming back for summer dinner next year!
The time we went was late afternoon/early evening and it was very quiet. We chose from evening menu and only one veggie choice. Food came and I must say was nice but nothing special really. It was an experience but next time we visit Bath would probably eat evening meal elsewhere but may try afternoon tea at the Pump Room as that did look good.
Yet again, we had a gorgeous afternoon tea. Service was great and the food was delicious.
