Great service and lovely food! Really enjoyed the 'chckn wings' and the 'fisch and chips'. Highly recommend the cheezecake! Tasted just like i remembered! My only negative is that it was a little bit chilly in the restaurant.
I was really excited to try proper vegan food and it didn’t disappoint! Service was super friendly and the food came quickly too. Will definitely return!
We visited for my birthday lunch with a family group, and we all ate something different and everyone enjoyed our choices. Food intolerances were well catered for. Great selection of beers too. I can't wait to visit again.
Would only recommend it as a try out.I probably would not return as it was too noisy (music awful) very dark. Food was ok
I have never been so cold in a restaurant! Waiting staff were friendly and food was fine but unfortunately it was all overshadowed by how cold and uncomfortable we were. Most people eating were wearing coats, not ideal. The restaurant looks good but to spend time eating there you realise that the minimalistic furnishings are just not comfortable. A real shame.
It’s nice to see somewhere trying to do a full vegan menu, however the menu is unimaginative and basic, i.e. food you could cook at home/not many options. The meals are also very expensive for the quality of the food. In addition, there is no ambience in the restaurant, it is very cold and hollow. We especially found it strange for the chefs to be stood together in the open kitchen, chatting and watching the diners. The server had no knowledge of the menu or vegan ingredients (she said she was new so fair enough), but you would expect staff to be informed & knowledgable when dealing with customers of strict dietary requirements.
I loved the vibe, food and overall experience dining at Purple Robot.
The staff are attentive and the food tasted beyond incredible.
My only gripe is I'm not eating there everyday 😭💜
I’ve been a couple of times now and I’m disappointed to say that I’m not sure I would return again.
The chairs are still extremely uncomfortable and my dining partner was sat on the padded bench which was far higher up than me which felt weird.
We were sat towards the front of the restaurant which felt a little exposed as there was a party in the back section. The atmosphere was lacking.
The food was ok but somehow not as good as the first time I went. We were not offered desert, when I enquired I was told there wasn’t any tonight because there was a party in, what difference does that make? Plus I had not been advised of that when I sat down. Eventually we were offered a strawberry cheesecake and that’s all there was.
I’m not sure if the place knows just what it wants to be yet.
My friend walked past the place initially as the signage is poor from the front.
My boyfriend and I visited The Purple Robot for the first time this week and we will definitely come again. We were already deciding what we’re going to choose to eat when we come next! The portion sizes were good and the food and drinks are great value. The presentation of the food, especially the fish and chips, was really impressive :) It was quiet, as expected for a Tuesday night, but we didn’t feel uncomfortable at all. The waitress was lovely and really accommodating, making sure we enjoyed our food and experience.
I have already recommended to my friends and family, and will be back again bringing more people along.
As a vegan, this restaurant is perfect for me and my omni boyfriend enjoyed too.
Our main meals were delicious and good value, but the stater of tempura vegetables was really greasy - and I advised the waitress.
Couple of things that need work before I would go again:
We sat near the open kitchen and could hear the staff talking about other members of the team 'not pulling their weight'
A member of kitchen staff walked passed us with a bag of rubbish which she took across the restaurant floor and out of the fire exit.
Hand driers at top of stairs are very noisy and sound travels to restaurant floor.
Incredible menu of well designed dishes that are accessible to all. I particularly liked the fact that the menu was robust and contained many dishes that would normally contain meat/dairy. Having eaten a three course meal, the flavours on every plate were exceptional. The service was prompt without being hurried and the atmosphere was relaxed. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our experience and can’t wait to return for breakfast or lunch in the near future to see what else is available.
Thanks for your review Laura :)
Lunch with family and friends. All were more than happy with our meals....especially the omnis amongst us! Staff were friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was great. Will definitely return to try more items from the menu.
Thanks for the lovely review!
im not vegan my wife is but i have to say the food was great but the place was a bit on chilly side
Thanks for the feedback Mark!
I’m not a vegetarian or vegan but I really enjoyed the Purple Robot. I liked the small menu as there was still plenty of choice. The visit felt like a treat and the service was perfect. One touch I especially liked was the option of different sized carafes of wine. I can’t wait to go back and would definitely recommend it to others
Thank you! We hope to see you again soon.
Table was far too small for four people, very cramped.
They only have about 8 things on the menu and they didn’t have the meal I wanted to order, you would think with such a small menu everything would be available.
But the food was good, great potential for this restaurant with some small changes.
Thanks for the feedback :)
Very friendly staff and great service. We really enjoyed the food and the experience it was very friendly and relaxing. The meal and drinks were really nice I would definitely recommend the purple robot and will be going again soon.
Thanks for the lovely review :)
Great staff, lovely food. Very hot inside but it was the hottest day of the year so everywhere was the same.
Super tasty food, really loved it. Will defo be going back for more
Thanks for the review Joanne :D
Gorgeous food, great customer service and reasonable prices. Will be back!
Too noisy, with nothing soft in the decor to dampen sounds and loud music so that real conversation was difficult. Servers very charming, food acceptable but nothing subtle about the dishes we had, and desserts had all gone except for ice cream. That said, they have only just opened so I am sure they are still refining their offerings.
Thank you for the feedback :)
As a meat eater, I was happy to try the newest restaurant in Hull, even though it is vegan.
We were greeted promptly and courteously and seated quickly. Drinks service was also quick. I asked about the various craft beers and was impressed with our servers knowledge.
When we asked about various aspects of the dishes, they were explained to us in detail.
I opted for a starter of summer rolls with a peanut sauce. Whilst with the sauce it was tasty, without it, I feel it would have been rather bland. Maybe add some slices of vegetables with Their own distinctive flavour. Spring onion, carrot, celeriac, or at least roast the tofu.
My partner opted for the falafel. These were moist and delicious and served with a cucumber yogurt dressing.
For a main course my partner had the special of Thai Green Curry and I opted for The Churizo stew, vegan style. Both dishes were packed full of flavour.
For desert we shared a selection of 3 flavours of ice cream, strawberry, raspberry and rhubarb, and a chocolate mouse with caramelised banana pieces. The ice cream was very smooth and the flavour came from what appeared to be dried fruit crumb. The flavour was amazing.
However I was disappointed with the chocolate mouse. It lacked that rich chocolate taste and the texture, that light airy texture you get using egg whites was missing.
As for the restaurant itself, it was comfortably lit, airy and there are enough tables in there to make your dining experience comfortable, with space for the staff to move around without knocking your chair.
The music of choice was up beat and from a number of generations, which suited me down to the ground.
If you need to use the bathroom they are upstairs and are of a neutral gender. (Use one use all) for those who can’t decide. I didn’t ask if there was a downstairs bathroom available for any disabled diners.
As for the bill. Well it came to£60 which for two, three course meals with drinks isn’t bad IMHO.
Would I go again? I have to say yes I would.
Thanks for the feedback! We hope to see you again soon.
The service, food and drink were brilliant. Only slight complaint is that the bench seating was a bit high for the table so it was was a little uncomfortable.
Thanks for the feedback Anne :)
Pros: tasty vegan food, good variety of beers and ciders. Very tasty non alcoholic drinks.
Cons: Weirdly, it could have done with more vegetables. I had a stew and my friend a burger, which were tasty but heavy, and they really needed a side salad or fresh peas or something.
The chairs are also vastly uncomfortable if are on the slightly larger side, having side pieces that dig in and being weirdly lower to the ground than the bench seats, so not great for long legs.
Delicious food and beer that is great for everyone
Great atmosphere, quirky layout and a lovely welcome. It is so unusual to have a completely Vegan food menu - including drinks! We were so impressed with the food (we were 4 meat eaters and 1 Vegan and 2 of us new to Vegan cuisine). We had a selection of starters and mains, the food was presented on slate platters and the flavours were incredible. To finish, we had a selection of ice creams to share, which were fab, but what really blew us away was the chickpea and beetroot mousse - amazing!
We're already looking forward to going back. 😁
Hope to see you again soon Linda, thanks for the great review!
We loved the modern industrial style. All food and drink is vegan with a good range of choice. We tried some of the excellent craft beers and the wine(on draught!) which was also very good. The food was delicious, well presented and with good portion sizes. Our server was friendly and attentive. Good music. Great bar.
Wheelchair accessible, gender neutral toilets.
Tasty food in a cool new venue - a welcome addition to Hull. We'll be back!
Lovely food with friendly and helpful staff. Would’ve liked to have a few starters/sides on the menu and to make explicit that all the booze is vegan too (sadly this is not always the case in vegan eateries).
Hi Kate, thanks for the great review and feedback. We have a starters menu launching this weekend. We hope to see you again soon!
The food was exceptional and the staff were really friendly. My husband, who eats meat, really enjoyed his meal of the Ramen bowl. I had the sausage and mash. Loved the complimentary doughnut balls. Can’t put my finger on how to improve the ambience- just felt a little unfinished maybe. Also, it would be nice to have some little nibbles for starters- maybe olives, bruschetta ... that type of thing. But definitely want to return.
Food was absolutely brilliant. Top drawer. This is just what Hull needs.
Love the decor and ambience.
Only had non alcoholic drinks but there’s an impressive range of alcoholic ones.
Minor niggles -
We sat on the “high top” chairs and I wouldn’t sit on them again as they weren’t comfortable. Didn’t realise that when I booked.
No desert menu yet - but we were given a delicious doughnut ball each for free. I was looking forward to the deserts tho after reading that they would have one on social media!!
Drinks were added onto our bill that we didn’t have. This was rectified when I queried it.
None of that will stop us going back. It’s only just opened and expect any niggles to be ironed out as it gets going.
Each of our party of six ordered a different main from the dinner menu and all were well pleased with their choices - even the non-vegans.
The staff were polite and helpful and not phased when we mixed up a drink order.
It's great to have a new 'go to' vegan restaurant in Hull.
The food was amazing and the mushroom burger had a lovely taste and texture! They also had a selection of plant based milk for my latte! Will definitely be returning
I've been four times in one week so it must be good. The food has been outstanding, the atmosphere is great, it's in the trendy part of Hull and that blackcurrant beer is amazing. 10/10.
