The Queens Arms- Sherborne
Our philosophy is 'measuring our food in meters not miles'
We strongly believe in the provenance and quality of all our food that is why we source as much as possible from the stunning South West countryside and local producers.
We have chickens and pigs on our own smallholding and the head chef works closely with our neighbour to provide us with Corton Denham grown fruit and vegetables.
Awesome food; excellent service!
A family meal while on a staycation. A great find! Superb food and service.
I have been to this restaurant before, but over a year ago and enjoyed a plentiful meal, but on this occasion it fell short of my last experience! Although the food was well presented and tasty. We felt the portions especially the starters were extremely small (laughable really) and had to ask for bread! The mains varied quite a lot in portion size! Lamb cutlets, only two small cutlets on the plate, same with the fish dishes, small portions also! We eat out regularly at good restaurants and felt the cost of the meal was way overpriced for the amount of food we received on our plates!! So unfortunately we will not return or recommend unless that person has a small appetite!!
Last roast here 18 months ago was excellent so we were looking forward to returning last Sunday but left so disappointed. Tough beef, no hint of pink and not sure why but they gave you one enormous roast potato size of a jacket potato - hard and undercooked in middle. Definitely lacking lots of crunch! All 3 of us left them having nibbled at outside bits. I did mention this to friendly waiter but was told they were all done this way. Not a cheap lunch venue and left very underwhelmed. Sorry Queens Arms - wont be coming back for a roast.
Lovely food in lovely location . The service was quite fast & very friendly .
We had a most enjoyable dinner at The Queens Arms. The menu was diverse and interesting and the wines reasonable value
Delicious food in a lovely garden setting with stunning views.
Lovely rural venue. Great service, views and food and drink.
Really fantastic quality food in a beautiful setting. Worth a detour, as Michelin says.
Lovely pub with friendly staff serving good food. Interesting selection of local beers.
The only downside was weak coffee!
I had two courses starter and pud. Exceptional, served in the bar and I would call this meal fine dining.
Excellent venue and superb standard of food. This is a favourite of ours and I would highly recommend to anyone.
A lovely spot to visit on a Saturday lunch time. We were well looked after by very friendly staff. Good variety of choice on the menu with local produce including a brunch option as well as lunch. Food was tasty, a real treat. Will be visiting again very soon.
Standard of food very poor compared to price. Our Sunday lunch was tasteless (never had bread sauce before that tasted of nothing!). Starter was £11 for effectively 2 small scallops. My wife had the same starter and had 3 small scallops - why the difference. Unfortunately, just cannot recommend the Queens Arms anymore. It used to be truly excellent. Poor value for money with mediocre/poor food.
Great food and service. Wines are a bit overpriced and nothing special which made the evening over £50/head (starter & mains)
A delicious lunch as always. The staff are friendly the atmosphere is lovely
Food good but pricey and some main course portions on the mean side, such as the duck breast. Other local gourmet pubs such as Kingsdon Inn and Firehouse have similar standards of food but are better value.
Very good experience. My beef wasn’t great but my husband said his was good so a bit of inconsistency. Overall very good
This pub was recommended to us by friends and didn't disappoint. Delicious Sunday lunch in a quiet and relaxed setting. Lovely, attentive service. We ordered the roast chicken to share and there was enough for 3 hungry eaters. Very succulent and moist. Sadly didn't have any room left for the puddings which all looked very promising. The only downside was the parking which is quite limited. We had to squeeze our car into the hedge a few metres down the road.
We ate lunch here, had a buffet supper for New Year’s Eve and had breakfast. All meals were excellent and priced appropriately. Fresh local ingredients used very well and prepared imaginatively. Staff are delightful and committed to very good customer relations. Highly recommend for great eating, great drinking and for its stunning location. Can’t wait to go back!
Consistently good food and service
The restaurant had no record of our booking but blamed us not you or them.
there was no fire lit although this is a country pub
Food was OK but not outstanding
Background music radio - horrid
Food was great but not enough of it. Had to raid the fridge when we got home, never a good sign.
Excellent service though and lovely environment.
Had a loveky evening, food was fantastic, service was great. Was just gutted i missed out on the groyse main course. We both had a lovely evening 👌🏻👌🏻
Some of the best food for miles around and the service is always lovely. There were a couple of flies buzzing around so I've knocked a star or two off 'Ambience' for that. (Owners - please do something about flies when they appear.) There was a great 80's soundtrack in the background but my personal preference is not to have music while dining.
Food was fine but menu very limited which was disappointing. There were lots of flies in the dining room that was a little off putting. It was ok.
Really enjoyed our spontaneous trip to the Queens Arms - such a fantastic local pub - it menu surpasses itself! What a diamond of a find
45 minutes to waiting for fish & chips - overcooked!
We have been coming here for years enroute to Cornwall and have recommended it to all our friends and family. Lunch last week was however a little disappointing. Slightly disorganised service, food a little cold, order mixed up. The Queens Arms has always been outstanding. Now so many new ventures (brunches, B and B expanded, marketing Christmas in August) they seem to have taken their eye off the ball where excellent food and superb service are concerned. Am hoping it was a one off.
Waited an hour for an over-cooked and very over-priced roast dinner. Very very disappointing
Not what it was...Service disinterested, which was a shame, food limited, puddings good but doesn't compare to the pub of a few years ago....
I have been a number of times - this was not good. No atmosznd indifferent service
Very relaxing lunch. Good food and service. The sound of the sheep in the next paddock was a bonus. The pork pies are always a must.
Stopped off here for lunch en route to Devon and it was well worth the diversion. We ate in the garden area and were spoiled for choice from the menu. Authentic local food and brilliant service from young enthusiastic staff. Thoroughly recommend.
The portions were extremely small and the prices the opposite. It’s in a nice location but wee were surprised by a last minute decision to change the format to a barbecue which would have been fine if they served a good sized meal, and they could make a lot more of thoutside space available, which was rather sadly bland and concrete considering the pub is a nice building in a good spot. The prices for both wine and food were excessive for a country pub, especially given the tiny portions served.
Extremely disappointing meal! Only a choice of 3 main courses. There was a wine tasting function on - they just managed to find me a wine glass reluctantly ... we counted 9 members of serving staff behind the bar but the service to our table was poor. Haven't got a clue what they were all doing ...
I booked the restaurant as had heard great things about it but I must say I wasn’t impressed. When we arrived we got the menu which had no starters, only 3 main courses and a burger and fish and chips on it. Very different to usual and when we asked why such a small menu choice were told there were staffing issues that day. I feel that we should have been informed as we booked online and certainly would have gone elsewhere with such a poor menu choice. Also when we got our burgers the frozen thin chips were very undercooked and the whole thing was very underwhelming to be honest, we will not be returning
Hugely attentive staff took great care of us. Mother-in-law is habitually hard to please but thanks to the care taken in listening to our order and delivering just what we wanted, she was quietly wooed. And that is a result, believe me. Food was excellent and very well presented. the ambiance was terrific too. Only critique would be the music in the restaurant which was an overly frenetic accompaniment. MIL would probably have complained but thankfully is quite deaf. Back to the food - please please make that chocolate mousse dessert a signature stalwart. It was superb!
Thanks again to all at QA - will definitely be back soon.
We all had the hake dish and thought it one of THE BEST and most original meals we had ever had.
First time visiting this pub. Great Sunday lunch, great service. Will definetly go back.
