The Ragged Cot is a beautiful boutique country inn with a history spanning over three hundred years. From sun-drenched gardens in a picturesque Cotswold setting to roaring log fires creating a cosy atmosphere, the Ragged Cot is the place to be at any time of the year.

Having stood proudly since the 17th Century, the coaching house has an intriguing past filled with highwaymen and pilferage. Recently under new ownership, the Ragged Cot has been lovingly restored to combine authentic countryside tradition with modern style and comfort – with dogs and wellies welcome! The shabby chic interior and deeply comfortable bedrooms are the epitome of countryside cool.

Timing: Friday evening, sunny and warm, a busy night (social distancing has ended), tables in the garden were 80% full, a shortage of staff, several new/ inexperienced/ untrained staff (the owner told us when he apologised for the poor service - 30 minutes to get a drink, over 45 to get food).
Food: Excellent! Unusual dishes, tasty, beautifully prepared, hot. Worth going back when they’ve got their act together. Ragged Cot? Owner running ragged that evening.

So nice to be back and I appreciate how difficult it must be to get back to ‘normal’.
The food was lovely and the only criticism of the service was that it was a bit disorganised. It seemed to be totally random whether someone offered you drinks or came to take your food order, so certain stages (like getting to order puddings) were very slow. However, the staff were pleasant and cheerful and it was a joy to sit outside with well spaced tables in the pretty and peaceful garden.

Nice food in a lovely setting. A little slow on service but not a great problem. Could do with more vegetarian variety.

We went for a bottomless brunch to celebrated our belated birthday from last year.
We were able to choose if we were sat inside or out which was great.
The food was delicious, drinks were great and Ilena (sorry if we have your name wrong!) was superb. Service did drop off a little towards the busier time - however when this was mentioned they were more than accommodating. We hope to return again with our husbands!
Thank you for everything!

The staff are lovely, very friendly and the food is really flavoursome. The food is let down by the fact its just not quitewarm enough.
Obviously due to covid they have the doors open to let air flow but the food coming out of the kitchen just isn't hot enough to cope with the cooler dining room conditions.

Rump steaks fine - happy with those. Thai fish cakes like cardboard & left uneaten. Cauliflower steak chosen as gluten free but inedible as was polenta served with it. Replaced by kimsu curry free of charge but close to inedible too. Staff tried hard but too few to manage and shortage of kitchen staff meant over an hour wait for food - free bread & olives provided while waiting - thank you. All-in-all a very disappointing experience and not what we used to expect at the Cot. Thanks to those staff who did their best in difficult circumstances. Hope it will return to former ways when more staff are employed & food is all fresh, not days old.

A very enjoyable evening with excellent food at sensible prices, friendly serving staff & a very nice
ambience.
We have been to this restaurant which is located very close to our home many times and on each occasion our experience has been excellent and the service impeccable.
We would heartily recommend this restaurant to families who have not dined there before.
Full marks to all of the staff!

Disappointing service and none of the 3 vegetarian options on the menu were available just a veg burger
Young lad had no idea what a craft beer was - just identified some lagers - brought meal out and said he was going back for veg, but came back and cleaned other tables when we queried where the veg was he said it wasn’t ready! Meanwhile food got cold
Actual meal was nice ( but cold - see above) wouldn’t recommend which is a shame as clearly owners were trying their best

Staff were lovely, food pricey we had different meals roast was nice my vegetarian curry was bad and flat bread inedible. One of our puddings had a long hair in, they swapped it no fuss and very apologetic but still charged for it.
Wouldn't eat there again.

We had so been looking forward to coming back for a family Sunday lunch and were left disappointed. The staff are still as lovely as ever but where has the good food, amazing plates and nice interior gone?? We were served the child’s meal without veg! And given lamb instead of beef. Also since they have removed all the curtains it’s so noisy in the main dining part it reminds me of a school dinner hall. Unfortunately we won’t be returning again soon.

Ordered drinks and then another waitress had to chase them up.Waited 45 mins for food. Did not get asked if everything was ok. Did not get offered dessert list. Garnish salad on rump steak meal was dry and limp and looked like it had been on someone else’s plate.
Have been coming here for over 10 yrs but now disappointed with new regime. Dead trees in pots in garden and uncut grass gives a neglected air to a once beautiful garden area. Sorry to be so negative but I’m sure you’ll appreciate honesty.

Wonderful Father's Day meal. When booking, I chose an outdoor seating hoping for nice weather!! On the day, the weather was a bit dull and cool but we were provided with lovely warm blankets and it was actually quite nice sitting outside!!

Our meals were delicious! Three roasts (2 lamb and 1 chicken) and a kids pasta meal which were really tasty!

The garden was nice and quiet, we were really well spaced out and we felt safe.

We will definitely be returning.

Under staffed so service especially outside was slow. Those staff who were working were very pushed. No realistic patio heaters or umbrella in case of rain which was likely yesterday.
Burger bun just short of burnt and I do hate an extra £1 for bacon and £1 for cheese given the cost in the first place.
Lamb tender but short on gravy and no staff to ask for extra.
Waited 45minutes to order desert and in the end had to go in to pay the bill.
A business cannot rebuild on overbooking on a couple of days. It needs to appeal to locals who will come regulary

Our previous experiences at The Ragged Cot had been very positive but last night's meal was very disappointing in several different ways. Whilst our telephone request to change to an inside table had been noted we were not given the confirmed table initially.
On the food and drink side a very common aperitif..Campari was not available, the fresh bread and oil/balsamic vinegar was not fresh but very stale, and my requested bavette medium cooked steak was fair but well over cooked.
The main disappointment for us though was the excessive noise level well above acceptable for a partially full restaurant (ok for a basic pub) and the very serious fact that many guests were not following the Covid restrictions on mask wearing when moving the room. Conversation was impossible and we will therefore not be visiting the venue in the near future except perhaps for lunch when hopefully the environment will be more moderate.

We have enjoyed food and hospitality at the Ragged Cot many times over the last few years, but this visit was very different from our previous visits. It appears that 2 of the waitresses were not happy with one another. In addition to this there was a male waiter who appeared as if he really didn't want to be there. The drinks order came incorrectly, and an item in one of the desserts was missing, and had to come separately, when I pointed that out.
While we don't really mind having the odd error, the atmosphere at the restaurant was odd, clearly by employees being stressed with each other. It kind of spoilt our visit, and we will think twice about whether we go again. Such a shame really - The food is lovely. The facilities are great, with great indoor and outdoor spaces. The staff need to be happy working there too, and until that comes back the overall experience will be unpleasant.

This is the first time we have dined at Ragged Cot since it came under new management. The changes made and the ambience on arrival was very good and we had high hopes for the evening.
We ordered gin and tonics and had to repeat the order several times. We ordered our starters and they came before the drinks. Not a good start.
We chose the seafood share board and it was very good. The main courses were very mixed - a medium/rare steak was virtually raw and so tough it was inedible. A duck breast lacked adequate sauce and was also very tough - I left nearly half of it. The lamb shoulder was good but was also short of adequate sauce. Desserts were good except for the pannacota served in a glass - just as well because it was not set and was almost drinkable. Very disappointing but the staff were welcoming and attentive.
