In showing this building some love, local businesswoman Shoes Simes has said that she hopes to help make her pub more food-led and family-friendly. In doing so she hopes to turn this local building of historical importance into an establishment for local families and friends to enjoy together. It all started 13 years ago when she first saw the building and she knew straight away that this was the pub for her and finally her dreams have come true, with a full refurbishment, this pub is now ready to be revealed to Eastbourne in all its glory. Once functioning as an old Moot Court, eventually turning into a restaurant in the 1970s, before it boomed as a pub trading as The Rainbow. It eventually changed to The Counting House and saw a new lease of life as the garden grew to be a popular haunt of all in old town. Returning with a change of name to the older style of The Rainbow, and with it a focus on food again.

Very relaxed, efficient service, great food. Lovely outside spaces and beautiful interiors. Will definitely be back!
Lovely place. The staff are really friendly and attentive. The food is amazing. The inside has been renovated beautifully as has the garden. Dogs are welcome too!
We had a brilliant day out at the Rainbow yesterday. We had booked an outside table as my parents were visiting and we could not have had a better experience.
We were well looked after (we would like to give a particular mention to the lovely Portuguese man - I’m so sorry we didn’t catch his name!)
The food was brilliant and there was no long wait between drinks. Thank you to all staff for doing so well in this really hard situation - we will definitely be back!
Had booked a table next to the play area as we were a group of 5 and had our 3yr old grandchild with us. Told by quite officious booking in woman that we couldn’t have it because those tables were for 8 people and we hadn’t asked for the words ‘Hold This Table’ to be added to the booking. Really?!!! When you have to confirm booking the day before this is ludicrous & only served to irritate us from the off.
When we were seated opposite the ‘table for 8’ there were only two people sitting on it & clearly the high chair I had requested waiting for us!!
I challenged the booking woman who said we still couldn’t have it, but when she knew they were about to leave agreed we could have the table once they had gone which, fortunately for us all was swift.
Food was great - definitely no gripe there & all other servers were available & pleasant at all times. Play area is small but super safe for kids and everywhere was clean & tidy.
Main gripe? We arrived at different times & our daughter wanted to treat her dad for lunch but no way do they allow a tab. We had to have FOUR separate transactions in the end and (Rainbow take note) this is why we didn’t have desserts & coffee. This is losing you more revenue than the odd kid flirting off without paying, plus the servers are clearly embarrassed/ fed up having to say no to tabs.
Know your audience & get staff to use their discretion - I think a three generation family are hardly going to do a bunk!!
Take a card or driving licence from each punter & stick it behind the bar to avoid such nonsense & we may just be tempted to come back :)
Ignored by 3 members of staff while waiting in the rain to be seated wasn’t the best start. Sadly the staff inside were to interested in hugging eachother and dancing about to pay any attention to paying customers needs. All extremely young staff and it showed.
Main meal came out before finishing starters so we asked if we could finish and have a break before mains and sadly I feel these meals must have just been kept under a hot plate for the 15 minutes because the food returned was chewy, dry and largely inedible. We informed the girl serving us that we were dissatisfied and given a response of “ok I will tell them” .
All in all we were extremely saddened by our visit as we had heard great things and this was our first trip out in a year and we feel it was a wasted one.
Amazing, friendly service and the food was absolutely delicious!
Lovely food and friendly staff. Social distancing arrangements were good without being intrusive. Will visit again
Very good food, a little pricy but not your run of the mill pub food. The service was good. Would recommend and definitely visit again.
Everything on the menu seems a few pounds over priced. There isn’t any options for ‘lite bites’ over a weekend. Just a potion of chips would have been nice to sit with for us at one point. Pub classics could be good, most of the meat options had ran out (very early). No ambiance/ music (doesn’t have to be loud, just to set a mood). The outside seating options are nice, and it’s been well ‘put together’.
Waited a long time to be serviced. The waiter came out with the first dish and did not know what it was. The chicken was dry and tough and potion very small I was hungry after. The poinloin was cold. There was 3 of us and we wanted to split the bill part cash part card they were unable to do this which was fine however the waiter was quite aggressive and condescending in explaining this. Over priced poor quality of food small portions and poor service struggled to see a positive will not return
Lovely, energetic and friendly servers, great outdoor space
Great atmosphere sitting outside on a lovely sunny afternoon! Friendly service and delicious food, especially the Seabass!
Great food, good service. A lovely way to spend an afternoon.
Tried a selection of gin jugs (all lovely) and love the posh chips! Fantastic and friendly waitress, all staff very welcoming.
The staff were friendly and very accommodating. Lovely venue. The food was amazing.
Really enjoyed our time there and they were vey accommodating to our request to switch to a table outside rather than inside.
Great service and starter was delicious (ham hock and pea). Unfortunately Moules were really disappointing, sauce was bland and tasteless.
The food and service were very good food arrived quickly and well cooked and presented.Would definitely recommend it to family and friends
Went for drinks in the evening. Comfortable seating both outdoors and indoors. The refurbishments are brilliant and make the place worth revisiting.
The food was overcooked and dry. We were not advised that we would be sitting right next to the smoking area when we were shown to our table. None of us smoke.
To be honest a bit disappointed. The menu selection was poor and the wait for pizzas and burgers was 30 minutes. The coffee machine had broken down so no alternative was offered. Wouldn't rush back.
Really nice venue, plenty of seating inside and out, good service and great food. Excellent value!
Food was excellent , I had sea bass with risotto with crayfish . Cooked to perfection. Service was very good. I shall be going back!
A lovely lunch meal in the garden. I had the butternut risotto which is absolutely amazing, the best risotto I’ve had.
The menu could do with more variety for gluten-free vegans who don’t like mushrooms and can’t eat soya.
The staff are delightful and made my birthday lunch a special treat, thank you.
The food and the service were really excellent. Our waiter was so friendly and helpful and the vegan options I had were delicious. The whole place looks great and the garden is lovely. Definitely recommend a visit.
Lovely meal and very friendly staff will be back very soon
Chilled atmosphere, lots of drinks to choose from and amazing roast dinner!
Cant wait to return this month 🙂
Great food,excellent service.
Staff paid great attention to all customers even when exceptionally busy.
The Rainbow is a fun place to eat. The staff are exceptional, nothing is too much trouble.I would definitely recommend The Rainbow..
We had a really lovely meal last night at the rainbow. The wait for drinks took quite a while but it was super busy. The guy looking after us (can’t remember his name but had longish hair) was super attentive and we can’t fault how he looked after us. Will certainly my be going back
Really nice place to eat and drink. Highly recommend
We decided to go for a meal and a few drinks Saturday evening. We sat outside. Our table was a bit uncomfortable. We were easily accommodated to another seat. It had a good atmosphere. Service was good. It’s my second meal there in the last 3 weeks. The food was good. Overall, we had a nice time and the pub had a lovely atmosphere.
Very quick service, friendly and great food. Great place to meet friends.
Ryan and the team were brilliant, friendly and energetic, service was brilliant. Couldn’t fault the experience.
Fantastic food and well presented. All staff were very polite and friendly. Definitely returning ..
Food was delicious and outside dining was lovely. Great service.
A lovely vibrant quality pub. Food is great and varied. Staff are attentive, friendly but professional, all have personality.
PS they have the cutest Bill clipboards that just proves the attention to detail on everything.
This restaurant has re-opened with a beautiful garden and small play area which is great for the grandchildren - food delicious and service quick- couldn’t ask for more.
Superb menu that changes so there is always something interesting and new to try although the pizza's are a real winner - great base and toppings - hopefully they will start to offer take away as an option
Great service and food. Outside seating was great but would have been too cramped if there was 8 of us. Especially to be able to socially distance which was doable with 4 in a booth. I felt comfortable eating there and would go back. Liked the individual heaters
