Lovely setting besides the king's Lynn quay, clean and with lots of character. Table settings a little basic. The food portions were excellent although my roast beef and Yorkshire pudding was not very hot. Drinks are reasonable price and if you want to splash out they have a good wine cellar. Service was very good and the staff were professional and attentive. The furnishings and decor compliment each other well with antique furniture and some lovely modern art on the walls. I would definitely eat there again.
Food was served very quickly and waiting staff were excellent, and after attending a wedding here and experiencing amazing food, we thought we would try it for Sunday lunch. The starter (Whitebait) was good, however the Sunday lunch was very disappointing. I asked for my beef medium (as I am pregnant) and it was still bloody. Both meals had one meagre slice of very fatty beef. Broccoli was almost raw, as was the cauliflower cheese. Huge amounts of carrot on the plate and potatoes were really not great. Yorkshire’s were fab though. Very disappointing as we had such high hopes, but the staff were excellent and very apologetic and offered us something else, and neither of which meals were charged for.
I took my mum to The Rathskeller for Sunday lunch. We both opted for the Sunday roast (beef). The meat was thinly cut and medium rare, which is my preference. The only problem was that the vegetables were barely cooked. It was quiet as the lunchtime rush had finished but the service was excellent.
Fantastic atmosphere and great food, thank you. Definitely worth to visit and try,
Poor starter, main served was wrong, all round poor experience
The food was a little disappointing, it didn't really taste of much
Tuesday night dinner date with friends. Restaurant very quiet, we were the only customers. Excellent service (not surprising) the waiter was very attentive, cheerful and thorough. Our friends had been their for lunch last year so we thought we would try the dinner menu. Food very good, 3 courses for all. Lack of potatoes with stew? No custard available for the crumble dessert, a little disappointing. However, a good evening. We will return.
Great spot in Kings Lynn for lunch - previously booked and they were ready and very accommodating - food and drink good and lovely location. To be recommended
Starter OK but nothing special. Main meal my wife had wild mushroom tagliatelle but couldn't eat it as it tasted of dirt. The waiter tried to resolve the problem and eventually brought her another dish. I had steak and kidney pudding that was dry and only had 3 bits of kidney and some fatty steak. Waiter was very apologetic. We were not offered any discount however for the poor meal and will not be eating there again. It was very disappointing as we have never tried the Norfolk restaurant week before and had traveled over 20 miles to get there.
Food came out cold second time came out microwaved and looked awful asked for fresh plate and it came out cold again with a thumb print in the mash. Very disappointed felt sorry for the very polite waiter..we were offered a free drink each and despite turning food away still charged for 2 drinks. Very disappointed as we have had fantastic meals here in the past and won't be revisiting.
The food and atmosphere was lovely.
Food was great during Norfolk Restaurant Week. Only thing I'd improve is that they should ensure they serve enough carbs with their meals. E.g mussels were served with a teeny tiny roll and salmon mousse served with teeny tiny melba toast.
I would also suggest they add garnish into their gins and serve chilled tonics.
Service was mixed. 2 waitresses excellent but the others didn't seem like they knew what they were doing!
Garish green light emitting features on the tables. Please get rid of these!!!
The staff were very good
The Norfolk Resturant Week food was not very good
Don’t be put off as we have been before during normal times and is always good
Perhaps the menu choice was not the best
Slightly disappointed on this occasion the normal chef was on holiday.
Poor food poor service
Food was cold when arrived at table vegetableswere rock hard
Food was disappointing. Went in for a Parma violet gin as advertised on Facebook to be served it in a glass fit for pop with no ice, really not quite as expected. The young waitress was delightful though
We spent our wedding lunch there and it was amazing great service excellent chef food was brilliant well laid out table , everyone commented how wonderful our day was I’d recommend highly
Good food, good service, good ambiance, polite staff, good location.
Went on a Saturday night, atmosphere in Lynn by South Quay is always good .. and The Rathskeller is ideally placed to cash in on this. Food and wine/beer was very acceptable and the service attentive ... all at a good price 😀. Definitely go again ... when we left headed off to the Pixie Lott concert but that was another story
We were married when then it was the registry office.WE have never been since opened as restaurant so thought give ago for anniversary. We were very pleased with the whole experience.Food only a short menu but outstanding. The staff very attending.
Everybody enjoyed themselves. waitress worked tirelessly and was excellent
We were the only people in the restaurant so it was lacking in atmosphere. We had the Sunday roast which was slow cooked beef, which melted in your mouth. The vegetables were crunchy and the Yorkshire puds were homemade. Very odd red cabbage addition which tasted almost like it was caramelised and heading towards a chutney. We were served by friendly and helpful staff who did their best to make us feel welcome. Overall pleasant but will go back and try the evening menu next time.
