Mixed experience at The Rectory. On the plus side, it is a lovely space and has a great drinks range. It was also quiet when we went for lunch. On the negative side, service was extremely slow and our starters were forgotten about until we asked for them one full hour after ordering. Our mains, which had already been cooked at that point and included burgers and fish & chips, were left to stand under heat lamps for 30 minutes and then brought to us after we had our starters. Because this is a nice venue, we might give it another try in hopes that the service improves. Prices were average for the area.
Enjoyable casual setting. Good drinks and food came quickly.
Relaxed atmosphere and very attentive staff. A bit disappointed with the small potion of vegetables with the roasts meat
The worst thing about this venue is that the staff turnover is notable. Notable because they manage to attract some really good staff and always a shame when you have a great local like this place and the staff keep shifting. Nature of the game I guess but a shame none the less. This is a really good spot on a Friday night especially with the live music and the discount on the menu for friends. Manager is a dream and the chefs are consistently good. We have yet to have a bad meal here.
Roast chicken was lovely, huge portion!! And I’ve had the roast beef before which is great too. Great Yorkshire’s and roast potatoes. Love the music in there, chilled vibe to meet friends.
Great service staff - The roast was fairly good portions but the quality of the meat lacked pizzazz.
Lovely pub with fantastic atmosphere. We went for the pub quiz on the Tuesday - we will be back! A gem in Clapham Old Town.
Very accommodating to a celiac - chef Budin was very kind and helpfu. Food was delicious and portions were excellent. Great Sunday family Sunday lunch with the dog!
Me and my girlfriend visited the Rectory for the first time on New Year’s Day, when we had a burger and pie. The decor and feel inside the pub was very appealing and a good spot for a light and easy meal. However, the pie was bland and my girlfriend gave up on the burger because it was soggy and flavourless (“it tasted just like a cheap fast food burger”). Given that the burger was around £12 we were very disappointed.
I really hope they take this on board because this pub would make a great little local for us if the food quality improved!
Great pub. Good and friendly staff. Nice drink are and separate dining. We had a great night.
Great atmosphere. Helpful staff and tasty food
Easy to book. Staff very welcoming and helpful. Simple menu
Came down for a roast dinner with my family. The place was packed out. We were shown to our table which still had glasses and spillages on it but were told we could sit down. It took at least 10 minutes to get the table cleared and another 5 to get food menus at which point we were told that the only roast dinners available were the beef and vegetarian options. The waitress was nice enough but service overall was poor and we often wondered if we should have just gone to the bar. Majority of my family ordered burgers instead which were a bit burnt and the roast dinner I had was lukewarm.
The general atmosphere was nice, I think this is potentially a great spot for a drink and day out with friends but was not great for a meal
We love this place and go frequently. In a quieter part of town so it does'nt seem to attract the noisy hoards you find in clapham central. We have yet to have a bad meal here and today was no exception. The portion of fries was a little small but we mentioned it and got another portion to share. The team are always accommodating and attentive albeit a little rushed on a Fridays.
Good atmosphere, good food
We had the Christmas 2 course meal. The table was decorated beautifully when we arrived, the food was delicious and all the staff were very friendly.
The Rectory is a great little pub, not too far from Clapham Common, that does a pub quiz on Tuesday nights. For £12 you can get a burger and a beer, and then it is £2pp for the quiz, which is a bit of fun. Would recommend booking, as the quiz can be quite popular.
They ran out of roasts and stopped serving after we ordered. We arrived 30 mins early so if we’d arrived on time at 4pm we wouldn’t have been able to eat.
Went for a Sunday roast after being assured on the phone when we booked that all roasts were gluten free.
Turns out they weren’t gluten free at all, and the beef was also raw and came with string in it.
Good team here and great manager. Very attentive and personable. Food is good. Steak and chips were both sizable portions.
Good food but they messed up the order and offered our bread and olives after the main...!?
Should improve their service.
Great place - staff welcoming and food lovely :)
Spent a very pleasant Sunday afternoon here playing board games and drinking tea after a Sunday Roast. Very comfortable settings
Came here for the Kiev's but alas the menu had changed and it was no longer available. We had burgers and skin on fries instead which were both delectable. Pecan pie has also disappeared so did not sample desserts but will try these next time. One of the things we like about this place is it is lively on a Friday night with the acoustic music set but somehow it is never rowdy. The unadvertised 25% off for members of the R group which is easy to join is also a bonus.
We love this place but on a Friday night it is even better. Live acoustic set and a lively but friendly crowd. Also if you sign up to their R club they give you a 25% discount Mon - Friday on all food. We tried the wings with homemade blue cheese dip. We could have just eaten these all night they were so delicious. We followed these up with the Kievs which were both huge and well seasoned. We skipped dessert as we were stuffed however we will try the pecan pie as soon as its back on the menu.
Great food and lovely staff! We will be back again soon.
Vegan and Vegetarian Mondays here mean that there is 50% off advertised prices so we thought we'd give it a go. We had halloumi burgers with blue cheese fritters and vegetable tempura to start. All three dishes were delicious but a tad heavy on the 'fry quotient'. Vegan chocolate pots to follow which were dense and delicious. Having opted for three courses we couldn't quite finish the desserts so took them home instead. Really attentive staff here which make our regular visits here a delight.
The team are brilliant and the food is great. No need to say any more.
Go to the Rectory
Lovely bar staff, quick service, nicely decorated, yummy food and live music! Ticks all the boxes. Was very quiet when we were there Friday Eve, they deserve more customers.
We ordered dessert after the main and it took 30 mins for a simple cheesecake to arrive. Very poor service. However great ambience.
Under staffed so waited for nearly 30mins for 4 cocktails to be made.
Noise levels of the music meant we had to move outside to have a conversation.
Has a great look but the ambience is not good.
Great pub and great addition to the neighbourhood - definitely worth popping in for affordable drinks and food, friendly environment and helpful staff
Excellent service from the team: good Sunday roast food. Not sure about the magician or artwork - but understand that pubs must survive.
Easter lamb option was excellent.
Young team was fantastic: energetic, enthusiastic, smart and personable.
Overtime I go to the Rectory I have a great time. The Food is fantastic, (especially the Sunday roast) the team there go out of their way to make you welcome and the ambience is surpassed only by the quality of the cocktails and wine list. Special shout out to Freya, who is the life and soul of that place.
Lovely pub, great food and friendly staff! Thank you, we will definitely be back soon.
I had chicken pie and mash and it was DELICIOUS! Met with my friends to have a catch up and play the quiz which was super fun. Will definitely return and recommend to my friends. Thanks for a lovely night guys!
Good lunch place but need to work on their food offer which is very limited
Good service and good food. Always lots of other diners but hardly ever overcrowded - makes for a relaxing environment.
I would just note that I paid for my meal with card and so on my bank balance the restaurant was listed as The Calf, which is it's old name. Thought it was worth pointing this out incase it caused alarm for anyone else.
Really tasty food and even better selection of beers! Nice decor also.
Really nice atmosphere, food was great and staff were all very welcoming. Will definitely be back!
